Zheng Bohan quickly composed himself and began to talk to Shang Yechu about another matter.
"By the way, Xiao Chu," Zheng Bohan cleared his throat, feeling slightly embarrassed by his earlier outburst, "Mita Films wants to sign you, did you know that?"
Why would Zheng Bohan suddenly ask this?
"Yes." Shang Yechu didn't hide anything, "but I haven't thought about it yet."
The greater the fame, the greater the power. Shang Yechu didn't want to sell herself to an entertainment company for a pittance when she was still relatively unknown, which was the main reason why she didn't immediately agree to Su Ge's offer.
"It's good to think it over more," Zheng Bohan said tactfully.
Shang Yechu understood and walked to a place further away from the crowd, saying, "What do you want to say?"
Zheng Bohan immediately began praising Meta Pictures: "I don't need to elaborate on Meta Pictures' status. They have excellent achievements in both film and television, and have stable collaborations with many great directors. Meta Pictures also has no shortage of good scripts and big projects."
"The current top actor at Metafilm is Du Xuyao, who is in his forties and has already won three Golden Horse Awards."
"Besides that, the most promising young actor of the new generation is You Jinghua, and the next level down includes Xing Yuan, Li Wenzhou, Li Jincheng, and others... These people are all around your age. First-tier, rising stars, second-tier, and near-second-tier, there are countless stars in the constellation."
Shang Yechu listened patiently to Zheng Bohan's rambling without showing any impatience, only gently stroking her phone case.
"But—" Zheng Bohan went around in circles before finally revealing his true intentions, "Among the female stars, besides Zhang Yu, who is 45 years old and has already gone international, there is only one Su Ge who has any fame."
Shang Yechu paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "Thank you, teacher. I understand."
Zheng Bohan hummed in agreement: "You're a mature young man, I won't interfere with your decision. By the way—"
Finally, Zheng Bohan's voice carried a hint of amusement: "Our crew is having a celebration banquet next weekend night. The restaurant is Yanyu Pavilion, and it's on me. Would the 'New Emperor' do us the honor of joining us?"
"Since you've put it that way, how could I refuse?" Shang Yechu smiled.
After hanging up Zheng Bohan's call, Shang Yechu sighed softly.
Zheng Bohan is the kind of person who treats you like family; he'll truly be there for you wholeheartedly.
Although he was commissioned by Meta Pictures to act as a lobbyist, he didn't actually try to persuade Shang Ye Chu to join the company with flowery words. Instead, he gave her a subtle warning.
Zheng Bohan's words did indeed remind Shang Yechu. While Meta Pictures certainly had resources and connections, Su Ge was also there.
What would happen if two artists of the same age and similar appearance signed with the same company?
It's unlikely that Meta Pictures only recruited Su Ge as a female artist. The fact that Su Ge is currently the only actress with some fame suggests only two possibilities: either Meta Pictures is sexist and doesn't intend to invest resources in promoting actresses, or Meta Pictures is primarily promoting Su Ge and allocating most of its resources to her.
Either way, it would be very disadvantageous for Shang Yechu. Deep down, Shang Yechu leaned more towards the latter possibility... because the resources that Meta Pictures was pouring into Su Ge were indeed outrageously excessive.
Entertainment company contracts are often for five or ten years. If after signing with Myta, all you can do is pick up the leftovers that Su Ge doesn't want, then that's not going to be very fun.
Shang Yechu made up her mind.
After talking with Zheng Bohan for a while, Shang Yechu felt thirsty and went to the hot water room to get some water. As soon as she entered, she found Li Yi there as well.
"You seem to be in a good mood." Li Yi tilted his head slightly when he saw Shang Yechu arrive.
"So obvious?" Shang Yechu blinked.
Li Yi poured half a cup of hot water, then added half a cup of warm water, and handed it to Shang Yechu, saying, "You rarely have happy moments, and it's unusual to see you like this today."
Shang Yechu took the paper cup and took a small sip.
After working together for a month, Shang Yechu gained a lot of new insights into Li Yi. One of the most important things was... his sensitivity to other people's emotions.
Li Yi's acting was so bad that Shang Yechu had to exert all her energy to barely get him into character. If portraying Xiao Fengque required 80% effort, then making Li Yi Xie An would require 120%.
It's very difficult to find the right state of mind for an actor. No actor can maintain full energy in every scene, and Shang Yechu is no exception.
Yi Tianzhao, spurred by his shame, became much stricter with the filming requirements than before. Shang Yechu, not one to be without temper, inevitably grew annoyed and frustrated after accompanying Li Yi through countless takes.
How can someone be so clueless? Even a three-year-old can fake cry, how can someone not even fake a smile?
Shang Yechu never showed this temper on her face, and no one else in the crew had ever noticed it. Everyone praised Shang Yechu for her good temper, gentle personality, and approachable nature. Only Li Yi was different. Every time Shang Yechu just started to show some impatience, she would immediately become more cautious and "forceful"—that is, she would behave even worse.
If Shang Yechu hadn't known that this was the extent of his abilities, she would have almost thought he was deliberately picking a fight!
Shang Yechu felt an inexplicable impatience with Li Yi. It wasn't that she disliked him, but rather that she found him troublesome. He was like that classmate you'd work with on a group project—obedient and diligent, always doing what you say but never doing what you don't, yet always dragging you down. She couldn't bring herself to scold him; yet, she couldn't swallow her anger if she didn't.
Shang Yechu replied dismissively, "One of the dramas I aired has just finished its run, and the ratings were pretty good."
"The episode I watched last night?" Li Yi nodded and praised, "You acted really well. I think you were even better than the empress played by Teacher Zhong Ji in the old drama."
"Thank you." Not wanting to offend someone who's smiling, Shang Ye returned the compliment with the same kind of business flattery: "Your action scenes were also very impressive, on par with Teacher Jiang Erjing."
Li Yi pursed her lips slightly, then suddenly changed the subject: "Are you tired? Why don't you go back to the hotel and rest for a bit?"
"No, I need to talk to Director Yi about something." Shang Yechu didn't know if filming for "Xiao Feng Que" would wrap up before the end of next week, so she needed to speak with Yi Tianzhao.
Shang Yechu drank the water in one gulp. "Thank you."
