What is the happiest thing for fans of celebrities?
That's right, it's seeing your idol constantly making appearances.
Shang Yechu's fans are such lucky ones. Not long after "Yun Qing Ji" ended, and while the whole internet was still in a heated discussion, another drama starring Yechu, "Xiao Feng Que: The Mystery of the Dynasty," is about to be broadcast.
Although the adaptation was already being heavily criticized by fans of the original work before its release, with many accusing Ye Chu of having connections, for new fans of Ye Chu (Shang Ye Chu's fan name), seeing their idol's new work so soon is undoubtedly a source of pride.
Shang Yechu, who is highly anticipated by fans, has had a tough time. After the first part of "Xiao Feng Que" was completed, the crew only rested for one day before starting work again to film the second part, "Xiao Feng Que: The Journey of Heaven".
Shang Yechu sat on a chair outside the film set, waiting for Li Yi to finish filming this dialogue scene.
Watching Li Yi's dramatic scenes was torture. Apart from Yi Tianzhao, whom they had no choice but to watch, no one in the crew wanted to enjoy Li Yi reciting his lessons. Shang Yechu was no exception.
Shang Yechu was watching clips of spy dramas on Pi, hoping to see what the public's perception of classic female characters in spy dramas was like. To Shang Yechu's disappointment, the female spy drama clips on Pi mainly focused on appearance, romantic pairings, and吐槽 (tu cao, a form of online commentary/criticism), with very few videos analyzing character design and acting skills.
After browsing through the commercials section for a while without finding anything worth watching, I decided to read some spy novels to ponder. Just as I was about to leave Pi, I saw a video recommended on the homepage.
The video's cover image is of a hand holding a jade seal. Shang Yechu recognized it immediately—it was her own hand.
The video title is also quite interesting: "[Those who know me and those who condemn me, only history will tell]".
The video has already been viewed over 500,000 times. When Shang Yechu clicked on it, she found that the video had actually become the number one trending video on Pi.
Pi's trending topics do have some merit. The video wasn't long, only five minutes, so Shang Yechu simply clicked to watch it.
"Clang—clang—clang—"
"Clang—clang—clang—"
"Clang—clang—clang—"
The opening was marked by nine chimes, the very nine fake death knells the emperor used to lure the seventh prince into a trap. Shang Yechu thought with amusement, "Unfortunately, the fake death knells later became the real ones."
"Wearing wet silk robes, descending the jade steps—"
A melodious opera tune filled the air, and the scene began with a flowing skirt, a pair of hands, and gradually, dazzling, cool jewels. The princess reclined on a couch, but her face remained hidden. It was a scene from the very first episode featuring Princess Pingzhao.
The color tone of this video is beautiful, a warm and elegant one. The editor must have put a lot of effort into color grading.
"Golden frost brush, falling silver mud—"
Princess Pingzhao's drooping hand faded, gradually transforming into another hand. That hand was writing. As it put pen to paper, it wrote the character "生" (life).
The singing suddenly stopped.
The scene shifts abruptly, and Princess Pingzhao's figure writing suddenly transforms into the old emperor's. The old emperor also puts down his vermilion brush, but what he writes is a bloody "X"!
"Kill!" Qin Tianye's chilling voice rang out against the background music.
With that shout of "Kill!", the background music suddenly sped up. The clanging of weapons rang out, like a thousand horses galloping, the sound like raindrops, the force like thunder!
The transitions between scenes also became faster. Scenes flashed by one after another, yet there was no sense of chaos. Dialogue from "The Tale of Clouds" was interspersed with the background music, but it did not sound noisy at all; instead, it created a beautiful sense of mutual reflection and harmony.
"Insects chirp in response, dogs flee from the fence, crows perch on phoenix branches!"
Princess Pingzhao knelt on the ground, sobbing, and cried out this line.
"Now that His Majesty has opened up the imperial examinations and selected many talented people, we have become wealthy idlers."
"Even the poor scholar in my household who copies books has betrayed his master and gone off to take the classics exam with greedy eyes!"
Meanwhile, the wealthy young men who uttered these lines flashed by in the background. The editor made their images semi-transparent, projecting them onto Princess Pingzhao's tearful face as she drank and chatted. As the wine gushed from the pot, tears also slid down Princess Pingzhao's cheeks.
The image of the princes and noblemen fades away, replaced by the old emperor's furious face. The scene then shifts to the execution of hundreds of members of the prince consort's family.
"If the princess would stand up for me, I would repay her with my life!"
"This is a petition written by the kindest schoolteacher in our village on behalf of my family of over ten people. I earnestly request that the princess present it to His Majesty! The Eighth Prince killed over ten members of my family... over ten people..."
