Chapter 13 Phone Numbers (1/2)

After filming wrapped, Shang Yechu didn't leave but stayed on set to help tidy up things.

Shang Yechu was sweeping the floor when she suddenly heard Director Jiang Lei's voice from not far away—it turned out the other party was on the phone.

"Where am I supposed to find actresses for you?" Jiang Lei's tone was slightly impatient, but she still used polite language, suggesting that the person opposite her was someone of higher status or older than her.

"Tell me about it—why are you going to argue with him like that! Why did you have to start filming on the same day as him? How long did he prepare, and how many days did you prepare?"

"As you know, I'm in the business of making idol dramas. Do you think those six words—'idol dramas' and 'acting talent'—have anything to do with each other?"

"Please don't make things difficult for me," Jiang Lei pleaded. "You two are like immortals battling it out, please don't let this little devil like me suffer..."

The person on the other end of the phone seemed to say something, and Jiang Lei's expression became increasingly speechless; she looked like she was about to roll her eyes.

Shang Ye listened for a while, then slipped away just as the call seemed to be ending. In the entertainment industry, eavesdropping is common, but being caught in the act is a disgrace.

After Jiang Lei finished speaking with the person on the other end of the phone, she hung up and entered the main room, where she saw Shang Yechu sweeping the floor.

Jiang Lei's eyes lit up when she thought of the actress her teacher had just "borrowed."

Shang Yechu turned around and politely greeted Jiang Lei: "Director."

When Jiang Lei saw Shang Yechu's generic face, her expression fell again.

Jiang Lei waved her hand listlessly: "Mm."

Shang Yechu lowered her head and continued sweeping the floor. During the scene just now, everyone was eating sunflower seeds and snacks, and they spilled fake bird's nest all over the floor. The floor was filthy.

Exhausted, Jiang Lei sat in the main seat, her mind filled with worry as she thought about the matter her teacher had just asked her to do.

The teacher makes it sound so easy. She could ask her for ten actresses, and they'd have to be really good actresses—Hello? Where are you going to find them? She's just a producer of period dramas!

The consensus in the industry is that the acting in idol dramas is like the beef in braised beef noodles—it's not that there's none, but it's more like there's something there.

Even after graduating for so many years, her teacher still knows how to give her difficult problems!

Jiang Lei recalled her teacher's words: "Looks don't matter! The key is to be able to act! I want to show that Xu guy that an actor who can only stare blankly will never amount to anything!"

"Didn't you recently film some kind of palace intrigue drama? Perfect timing, my film is on a similar theme, I can borrow some actors from you."

"By the time your family drama is finished filming, my show will have just started filming, so we can seamlessly switch productions!"

Jiang Lei's forehead throbbed. Her teacher had directed many hit dramas and launched the careers of numerous artists. Over the years, this had also cultivated a host of bad habits. For example, this tendency to disregard artists—a habit she hadn't yet broken.

Does he think celebrities are soybeans? That they can be turned around and around?

Jiang Lei isn't some internationally renowned director, so why would the teacher think that the artists in the crew would listen to her commands?

Shang Yechu slowly finished sweeping the floor in front of Jiang Lei, then started tidying up the tables and chairs for the crew. They would be needed for tomorrow's filming.

Jiang Lei pondered for a while, then, feeling bored, glanced at Shang Yechu again.

Looking at her closely for a while, this girl actually looks alright. Her features are unremarkable, but they're harmonious enough. Unlike the male actors in the crew, who are strikingly ugly.

Although not tall, he was slender and well-proportioned. Jiang Zhiyuan often looked up when he spoke, because lowering his head even slightly might reveal his double chin.

Today, Jiang Lei was quite satisfied with Shang Yechu's performance as an extra. Of course, it wasn't exactly amazing (after all, an old man selling medicine isn't anything amazing), but he saved the day like a firefighter, and Jiang Lei still had a very good impression of him.

Jiang Lei's thoughts drifted further afield.

The teacher wants to film a period drama. Being short isn't a problem; just wear platform shoes or flowerpot shoes and you'll be taller. This girl's face may be ordinary, so she can't play any important female roles, but she'll definitely be fine as a maid or servant. If all else fails, just put on some more powder and make her look whiter! Fair skin covers a hundred flaws!

Most importantly, this girl absolutely meets the teacher's requirement of "good acting skills." Among actors of the same age, she is more than capable of outperforming a large number of them.

Despite mentally preparing herself, Jiang Lei was still a little uneasy. This minor role was unknown and not particularly attractive—would the teacher think she was just going through the motions?

Although the teacher said, "Looks don't matter, the key is acting skills," in the entertainment industry, if you believe everything you hear, you might as well go home and farm. If Jiang Lei really dares to put a few effeminate characters like Ru Hua and Cui Niu in the teacher's class, then she can expect to sever their teacher-student relationship.
