Shang Yechu nodded, then shook his head.
Ignoring Shang Yechu's contradictory behavior, Sheng Wenzhi pointed to the boy who was leading the commotion and shouting the loudest.
"Tell him to shut up, and I'll be your friend."
Shang Yechu actually went—now that she thinks about it, she really wants to punch her past self.
Shang Yechu walked up to the boy, put her hands on her hips, and said to him, "Shut up!"
The boy paused for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Yo yo yo~ The penguin's here to avenge the duck leg! Is this the legendary 'fu'—?"
Before he could finish speaking, Shang Yechu shoved him hard, causing him to fall to the ground with a thud!
Shang Yechu swore she hadn't meant to. At home, her parents and siblings often pushed her like that. She had never been pushed before. Who would have thought that boy was so fragile, falling to the ground and howling like a banshee with just a light push? He was like a stunted little monkey.
Later memories were rather confused. Shang Yechu vaguely remembered that she had been in a group fight for the first time in her life, and it was with the group of hooligan male classmates that she hated the most—most importantly, the battle ended with Shang Yechu's great victory.
Such incidents are all too common in underachieving classes. The homeroom teacher dealt with the matter hastily, calling in the parents from both sides and giving them both a slap on the wrist. Shang Yechu was even given a mixed-gender beating by Ji Ya and Shang Hongxuan. She had suffered too much in her life and had long forgotten it.
After this incident, Sheng Wenzhi actually kept her promise and became "friends" with Shang Yechu. Of course, this so-called friendship was actually just Shang Yechu unilaterally following her around.
After Shang Yechu's sudden rise to fame, her status in the dog-eat-dog class improved slightly. For the time being, no one dared to call her or Sheng Wenzhi by their nicknames. This was the first time Shang Yechu had used her own strength to protect someone, and she was very excited, presumptuously acting as Sheng Wenzhi's bodyguard.
Sheng Wenzhi loved writing and had a very good writing style. After her parents passed away, she tried to submit articles to magazines to earn money to help support her family. Unfortunately, she never got accepted. To this end, she even gave herself a whole bunch of fancy pen names. When Shang Yechu found out, she eagerly came up with two herself.
"How about calling them 'Little Penguin' and 'Little Duck'?" Shang Yechu suggested at the time.
"Who likes being called a gigolo?" Sheng Wenzhi irritably crumpled the manuscript into a ball and threw it into the trash can. "If you want to be called one, be one yourself."
Shang Yechu squatted down next to Sheng Wenzhi, looking dejected. "Ah... what should we call ourselves? My name is Shang Yechu, and yours is Sheng Wenzi, so how about we call ourselves Xiao Yezi and Xiao Wenzi?"
"Can you please stop causing trouble here?!" Sheng Wenzhi snapped. "What mosquitoes and insects! What respectable writer would call these things?"
Shang Yechu simply said "Oh." She might be a bit slow, but she wouldn't keep trying to win someone over forever. Seeing that Sheng Wenzhi was really impatient, she decided not to bother her anymore.
And then...
Then one day, perhaps a long time had passed, or perhaps it was just Shang Yechu's imagination, after taking three days of sick leave, Shang Yechu returned to school and encountered Sheng Wenzhi on the way.
It was the height of summer. When Sheng Wenzhi saw Shang Yechu, her expression suddenly became very strange. Not only was she unusually kind and gentle to her, but she also treated Shang Yechu to ice cream. It was an unprecedented display of generosity.
The simple-minded Shang Yechu happily ate her ice cream. She had no pocket money, and it was the first time she had ever eaten ice cream that summer.
Shang Yechu licked her ice cream as she entered the classroom. It was during recess, and the classroom was bustling with activity. However, as soon as Shang Yechu stepped inside, the classroom suddenly fell silent.
Shang Yechu was a little dazed and uneasy. She even forgot to eat her ice cream.
Suddenly, the whole class burst into laughter in unison, the laughter so loud it could have shattered the roof!
What's wrong?
Shang Yechu was filled with anxiety as the ice cream in her hand slowly melted and dripped onto her fingers.
The boy who had been hit by Shang Yechu last time suddenly said, "Yezi, I heard you're so old and you're still sucking your thumb!"
Haha ...
These words seemed to flip a switch, and the whole class burst into laughter again, the laughter so loud it shook the desks.
What eats fingers? What kind of leaf?
Sheng Wenzhi walked past Shang Yechu without glancing at her and returned to her seat, as if she had never met Shang Yechu.
Shang Yechu stood there blankly, not understanding what her classmates were saying. Finally, everyone finished laughing, and the student sitting closest to Shang Yechu casually tossed her a magazine.
Shang Yechu took the magazine with one hand. Because it had been passed around many times (it was a common practice in school to have one person buy a magazine and then pass it around to the whole class), the book was already tattered.
Shang Yechu immediately recognized the magazine. It was a well-known bi-monthly joke magazine in Wencheng. Opening the magazine, the first section, "Monthly Trendsetter Selection," featured a short story.
The short story tells of a foolish, overweight woman who wants to become smarter. In her quest for intelligence, she does many silly and comical things that will make the reader laugh.
The novel is vividly written, so lifelike that it seems as if the author witnessed everything firsthand. Even the slow-witted Shang Yechu had a vague sense of what was happening.
Many scenes reflected reality, and Shang Yechu even had a vague memory of some of them. In short, it was a feeling of déjà vu.
Most importantly, that idiot who wanted to become smarter was named... Ye Zi.
The whole class was laughing because of this.
After a long while, Shang Yechu's eyes moved, and her gaze slid to the author's name column.
Contributor's name: Little Mosquito.
The ice cream fell to the ground, leaving a trail of cheap food coloring.
