Ji Juntao's face froze instantly.
All conversations need to be brief and to the point. Ji Juntao wasn't stupid, just young and arrogant, easily carried away by his success. Now, after Shang Yechu's words, he naturally realized his mistake.
After a long while, Ji Juntao let out a long sigh, slowly sat back on the sofa, and buried his head between his knees. Shang Yechu knew that this proud and arrogant boss was currently in a deep state of frustration and needed some time to calm down.
Shang Yechu walked to the window and opened it, letting the fresh air dissipate the oppressive atmosphere in the room. Looking back at the other person's figure, she felt a mix of emotions, unsure whether she felt more relief or disappointment.
Fortunately, if I hadn't been so opinionated, the project "Half a Day" would have been a complete failure.
Disappointment... probably because my first attempt at making friends after being reborn ended without any results.
A person who tries to manipulate Shang Yechu will never become her friend until they change their enormous and stubborn desire for control. With mixed feelings, Shang Yechu withdrew the tentacles she had reached out to her.
Ji Juntao will never know how important and rare this initiative was for Shang Yechu. However, Shang Yechu estimated that even if the other party knew this, they would only be overjoyed and reuse this affection. They would shift from the "Mom is doing this for your own good" approach to "How could a friend possibly harm you?"
Shang Yechu was amused by her own thought, and the anger in her heart subsided considerably.
Without expectations, there is no disappointment. When Shang Yechu considered Ji Juntao as a potential friend, she naturally felt conflicted and even betrayed because of the other's concealment. But now that Ji Juntao has returned to her position as boss, her actions were simply a case of miscommunication.
Tearing up the pancake was for Shang Yechu's sake; there was no need to get so worked up.
With a subtle mix of disappointment and relief, and a hint of vengefulness that she herself was unaware of, Shang Yechu said coolly, "How's your thinking going, Boss Ji?"
"I was wrong." Ji Juntao raised his head and squeezed out four words through gritted teeth.
Although the tone was reluctant, it was already a huge step forward to get the arrogant Boss Ji to admit his mistake.
Shang Yechu didn't intend to press the issue further, and smiled: "What are you planning to do next?"
"Public relations, networking with the producers of 'Half the Sky,' and getting things done. Also, keeping an eye on your acting." Ji Juntao wiped his face. "I can't help you with acting. I hired a tutor for you while I was in Ruguan; he'll arrive tomorrow. By the way, how's your Ruguan dialect practice going?"
Shang Yechu casually asked in the Ruguan dialect, "Is that Master Fan?"
Ji Juntao's eyes lit up: "It sounds like someone from the local area. What does that mean?"
Shang Yechu looked away and gazed out the window: "You're an idiot."
"..." Ji Juntao slumped back, "Yeah. How come I didn't think of that? Or was I just taking things for granted? I really want to stick my head in the toilet to clear my head."
Shang Yechu was just joking, but she didn't expect Ji Juntao to actually take it seriously, so she couldn't help but laugh: "Just kidding. I mean, have you eaten yet?"
"No. I've been eating so many mints that my head feels like it's being blown around, so I don't have an appetite right now."
Shang Yechu sat down at the computer desk opposite Ji Juntao and said slowly, "This incident is also a warning to you. I don't understand why you think I know nothing about entertainment operations, nor do I know what touching filter you have for my moral standards. But this incident tells us that if the team doesn't communicate beforehand, things can easily go wrong."
It was quite a novelty that Shang Yechu was actually lecturing Ji Juntao. Ji Juntao frowned and pondered for a moment before reluctantly admitting, "Alright. I apologize for what happened."
Shang Yechu touched the lines on her palm: "You need to apologize more than once."
Having just experienced the double blow of contract termination crisis and a severe blow to his confidence, Ji Juntao was now slightly more sensible: "Ye Chu—Old Shang, I admit it..."
"Stop, stop, stop." Shang Yechu's face turned green. "You should just call me Yechu, or even Old Ye." Old Shang was what Shang Hongxuan's old buddies called him, and Shang Yechu felt a wave of bad luck.
"I admit, I underestimated you a little," Ji Juntao said helplessly. "Because of your age, education, experience, well... but this isn't directed at you personally. In fact, our company, and even the entire entertainment industry, is practically a literacy class. It's hard not to discriminate. I just can't change it right now."
Shang Yechu chuckled: "You're finally willing to tell the truth? Miss Master."
Shang Yechu was relatively tolerant of Ji Juntao's discrimination based on her educational background. Every industry has its hierarchy of disdain, and it was perfectly normal for Ji Juntao to look down on her, a high school dropout.
"Arrogance is the first of the seven deadly sins. I am a criminal too." Ji Juntao gave a self-deprecating laugh. "Amen!"
Shang Yechu ignored Ji Juntao's playful remark and turned to look out the window: "Don't you dare admit your mistake but not correct it. Don't you have anything else to say?"
