Gu Wenhua stared at the number on his phone, hesitating, unsure whether he should make the call.
"Xiao Gu!" A voice interrupted Gu Wenhua's thoughts. He looked up and saw that it was Ji Juntao. The other man stuck his head out of the car window and waved to Gu Wenhua.
It was truly an honor that Boss Ji had come to pick him up in person. Gu Wenhua hurriedly ran to the car and got in.
After settling into a comfortable position, Gu Wenhua couldn't help but look around. Only Ji Juntao and the driver were in the car; there was no one else.
Gu Wenhua touched his face and asked casually, "President Ji, what has Ye Chu been busy with lately?"
Ji Juntao casually said, "Ye Chu had training tonight and couldn't pick you up. She asked me to apologize to you."
"No, no, no," Gu Wenhua quickly waved his hand, "She's busier than me. What training?"
-----------
"Bang!"
The final gunshot rang out amidst scattered applause. Coach Kang clapped and whistled, "Good girl."
Shang Yechu took off her earmuffs, her face flushed and her forehead covered in sweat: "Praise me, or praise your aunt?"
"Hehe, they're all good girls." Coach Kang smiled. "When you first came here, the gun was a grasshopper in your hand; now, it's a snake."
Coach Kang's Chinese fluctuated, but Shang Yechu had grown accustomed to this strange metaphor.
"Coach Kang, I need to end training early today." Shang Yechu walked to the side, picked up a towel and wiped his sweat.
"No problem." Coach Kang was eager to leave work and was about to slip away when he remembered something. "But, why?"
Shang Yechu gulped down half a bottle of water before saying, "My friend is coming tonight, and he should be here soon. I need to go and give him a welcome dinner."
Gu Wenhua is a future great director; we cannot afford to neglect him.
Coach Kang said "Oh," scratched his butt, and suddenly said, "Aren't you going to tell Shi and Shi? He's also your friend, and he should be happy to meet your other friends."
"Shi Shan is still training, so I won't disturb him." Shang Yechu and Shi Shan don't train in the same room; they only exchange a few words after training. "Could you tell him for me later?"
Coach Kang muttered impatiently, "I'm not going to tell him."
Shang Yechu asked curiously, "Is there something inconvenient about it? I'll just send him a message."
Shang Yechu took off her goggles, picked up her phone, and sent a message to Shi Shan, briefly explaining the situation.
It was too late to go back to the hotel to shower and change, but luckily the club had restrooms. Shang Yechu quickly took a shower and changed into the new clothes she had brought with her. As soon as she stepped out of the corridor, she saw an unexpected figure.
Shi Shan was standing in the corridor, looking at the gun paintings and photos on the wall. Hearing Shang Yechu leave, he turned around and looked back.
"You're done training?" Shang Yechu looked Shi Shan up and down with curiosity. "You've changed your clothes too."
"You're going to see Director Gu, right?" Shi Shan asked with a smile. "I really like his filming style. Could I borrow your help this time?"
"How did you know?" When Shang Ye Chu sent the message, she only said that she was going to see a friend, but she didn't say that the person was Gu Wen Hua.
Shi Shan's tall shadow appeared extremely imposing under the lamplight, but his smile was very warm: "The industry still pays a lot of attention to the Film Festival. It's already well known that Gu Wenhua's first film was shortlisted for the final round of judging."
"I see." Shang Yechu said with some difficulty, "This gathering was private..."
"Does that mean we're not friends in private?" Shi Shan raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Of course it counts." Shang Yechu's brows relaxed. "Old Ji is there too, are you sure you want to go?"
"Boss Ji wouldn't embarrass me in front of outsiders, would he?" Shi Shan's gaze fell on the water droplets dripping from Shang Yechu's hair. "She's a smart person."
Shang Yechu sighed: "I have to ask Director Gu."
Shang Yechu dialed Gu Wenhua's number.
The call was answered almost instantly. Shang Yechu glanced at Shi Shan, then turned and walked to the other end of the corridor.
"Director Gu, a friend of mine who trains with me heard you were coming and wants to meet you. Tonight," Shang Yechu said. "You should know him. Shi Shan."
"Shishan?!" Gu Wenhua stammered. "Of course, yes! My great-great-great-yes, of course!"
Gu Wenhua's excitement was somewhat unexpected for Shang Yechu. Could it be that Gu Wenhua was actually a fan of celebrities?
Shang Yechu teased, "What, your idol?"
"..." Gu Wenhua said shyly, "Yes. He used to be Director Zhan's go-to leading man. Thank you, Ye Chu. If it weren't for you, I might have been in a very, very long time..."
Gu Wenhua rambled on incoherently, but the central message was: Please, please bring him here.
Since Gu Wenhua was willing, there was no need to refuse on his behalf. After all, he was the main character of tonight's welcoming banquet. Shang Yechu turned back and nodded to Shi Shan, then asked Gu Wenhua, "Is Lao Ji with you?"
