Chapter 27 The Real Script (1/2)

"A good notebook?" Zheng Bohan was taken aback. "Old Qin, you..."

Qin Tianye was about to speak when he suddenly noticed that there were other people in the room. He quickly turned around, looked Su Ge up and down, and said, "Su Ge... Madam?"

Su Ge smoothed her hair, stepped forward, and smiled, "Teacher Qin... it's been a long time."

Qin Tianye was taken aback. Had he met Su Ge before?

Su Ge quickly changed her tune, saying, "What I meant was, it's been a long time since I've watched one of your TV dramas."

"So that's what it means." Qin Tianye subconsciously felt a little embarrassed, after all, he had only recently learned that he might have to film a kissing scene with this young junior in front of him. Now that he saw how young the other person was, that strange feeling was even more obvious.

“It’s true that I haven’t had any new works for two or three years,” Qin Tianye politely extended his hand to Su Ge. “Nice to meet you.”

Su Ge quickly shook hands with Qin Tianye, then withdrew her hand as if she had been burned.

Qin Tianye didn't seem to mind and politely nodded to Su Ge, "Regarding this film, Director Zheng and I have some details to discuss. Would Miss Su like to hear them?"

Qin Tianye's intention to see the guest out was quite clear. Unfortunately, Su Ge wasn't one to grasp this, and she immediately nodded emphatically, "Okay!"

Qin Tianye's breath hitched, and Zheng Bohan's temple throbbed.

Zheng Bohan had no choice but to invite the two to sit down. After they were seated, Zheng Bohan asked, "Old Qin, you just mentioned the manuscript of 'Yun Qing Ji'... what's going on here?"

Zheng Bohan has never given the complete script of "Yun Qing Ji" to anyone. This is because the complete script is too similar to "Qing Yun Zhuan," and the copyright to "Qing Yun Zhuan" is not exclusively held by Zheng Bohan. Filming it exactly the same would likely lead to legal trouble. Zheng Bohan has actually been revising the script bit by bit recently. The part given to Qin Tianye only accounts for one-third of the total screen time.

Qin Tianye raised a sharp eyebrow and gave Su Ge a meaningful look. The meaning was clear: Could you please ask this young lady to leave? What I'm about to say might not be pleasant.

Zheng Bohan glanced at Su Ge, who was clearly unaware of her own unpleasantness. At this moment, she was staring intently at Qin Tianye, ready to listen to his teachings.

Zheng Bohan showed a tolerant expression. He figured, "The one who pays is the boss; I'll just listen."

Under Qin Tianye's cautious gaze, Zheng Bohan nodded almost imperceptibly.

So be it. If Zheng Bohan doesn't care, why should Qin Tianye care?

Qin Tianye said, "Why didn't you tell me that the main theme of this drama is anti-feudalism?"

A thunderclap suddenly erupted from the ground!

Zheng Bohan suddenly stood up and exclaimed, "What did you say?"

"Am I wrong?" Qin Tianye looked directly at Zheng Bohan. "Isn't that what you meant?"

Zheng Bohan realized his lapse in composure, and with trembling hands reached back to touch the chair before sitting down.

"You—" Zheng Bohan said hoarsely, "How did you figure that out?"

"It seems to be true." Qin Tianye's features were cold and hard, and when he stared intently at someone, he exuded a strong sense of pressure.

"Tell me first, how did you figure it out?" Zheng Bohan weakly picked up his teacup and took a sip of the cold tea.

Seeing this, Qin Tianye snatched the cold tea from Zheng Bohan's hand and poured it out, then poured Zheng Bohan a cup of hot tea.

After pouring the tea, Qin Tianye suddenly felt a burning gaze. He turned his head and saw Su Ge staring at him with wide eyes.

Qin Tianye thought to himself that this young man was quite eager to learn, so he poured Su Ge a cup of tea as well.

After doing all this, Qin Tianye cleared his throat and said seriously, "Actually, it wasn't me who figured it out."

"You didn't figure it out yourself?" Zheng Bohan felt a lump in his throat. "Then who did it?"

Qin Tianye said, "I was on set and I heard several actors talking about their scenes... There was a young girl among them who kept praising your script."

As Qin Tianye narrated, a scene of the actors discussing the play slowly unfolded before Zheng Bohan's eyes.

"It's too hot, you, the director, are nowhere to be found, and I, the lead actor, had a fight with you. The actors are all getting a bit lazy."

"I heard this young girl encouraging everyone, praising your script and stuff. At first, I thought she was just flattering you in front of me. But as I listened, I realized that what she was saying... had some substance."

Zheng Bohan asked anxiously, "What did she say?"

Qin Tianye is a veteran actor; he has memorized his lines over the years and has an excellent memory. He recited the words spoken by the minor character word for word.

She said, "We are currently filming a work unlike any other. Its perspective, content, and theme are all different from previous palace dramas. If this work is successful, it may usher in a new era for similar dramas in China!"

Zheng Bohan's lips trembled slightly: "And then?"

"Then someone asked her, 'Why? We're wasting our days here like we're drunk, I don't see this as some kind of new era.'"

The young actor retorted, "No! Didn't you realize? We're filming an anthology series!"

Zheng Bohan's expression froze, and his usually stern face showed an expression as if he had been struck by lightning!

The terms "palace intrigue drama" and "episode drama" are completely unrelated.

As a major genre of period dramas, domestic palace intrigue dramas are invariably lengthy, often running to seventy or eighty episodes. Palace intrigue dramas are not simply action-packed tales where a female protagonist kills her way from minor enemies to the ultimate villain. They delve into the most subtle emotions and power struggles between people, the growth of the female protagonist, the evolution of court intrigue tactics, and the changing stances and emotions of the characters. A palace intrigue drama is essentially a story of the female protagonist's growth and a tale of love and hate among the characters. Therefore, the continuity of the plot is crucial.

What is an episodic drama? As the name suggests, an episodic drama is a series composed of independent episodes linked together. Usually, one or two episodes can tell a story. An episode of an episodic drama is like a short movie, clearly explaining the cause and effect, the main and supporting characters, the beginning and the ending. Even if you don't start from the first episode, but just pick any episode in the middle, it will not affect the viewer's understanding of the plot and the relationships between the characters.
