[A billion-dollar prize | Film version of Xie An x Xiao Fengque... I neither love you nor hate you, I just think of you occasionally. | Chinese version of "Pride and Prejudice"]
When discussing martial arts fiction, Jiang Shang Nongchao is an unavoidable topic. Jiang Shang Nongchao single-handedly pioneered the genre of female-led martial arts novels, and half a century later, no one can surpass her. Her representative work, the "Phoenix Playing with the Dragon" series, has once again topped the martial arts novel bestseller list this year, thanks to its film adaptation.

However, good things are often fragile, and even the most beautiful clouds can easily dissipate and glass can be easily broken (hmm). The adaptation of the "Phoenix Plays with Dragons" series has always been a mystery. A brother in this group previously discussed this [link: How did "Phoenix Plays with Dragons" manage to flop in every remake?], so I won't go into details.
It wasn't until this year, with the release of the sixth Empress Dowager version of "Xiao Feng Que," that the adaptation history of this masterpiece was finally brought to a passable conclusion. Unfortunately, it remains quite controversial, with the biggest controversy lying in the romantic relationship between the male and female leads in the original novel.
In the original novel of *Phoenix Plays with Dragon*, Xiao Fengque and Xie An are true soulmates. However, due to various reasons, the film adaptation failed to capture this essence, instead fragmenting their relationship beyond recognition. This angered fans of the original novel, who now only accept the film's portrayal of Xiao Fengque, rejecting the film's portrayal of Xie An.
(Anti-Amway: Xie Bazi, Ye Zhengzheng)
However, after meticulously watching the entire "Xiao Feng Que" film series frame by frame, I discovered... even with such fragmented and trivial romantic subplots, this couple is still quite appealing... and presents a completely different, even slightly unpleasant, flavor from the original novel... It's practically a Chinese period drama version of "Pride and Prejudice."
It can also be called... "Xiao Yan San and Xie Shen Wu"...
"厌" means to dislike, "深" means deep inside, and "三五" naturally refers to the third and fifth floors of the earth...
First, stack armor; shipping couples is harmless; brothers, lower your judgmental instincts.
Now, let's get started!
The story begins with Xiao Fengque infiltrating the Tianji Tower to investigate the massacre of his family, and he is ranked as the fifth on the Earthly Branch.
The ranking system of Tianji Tower is Heaven, Earth, Black, and Yellow, and usually requires many years to complete. Xiao Fengque was ranked with the Earth character as soon as he entered the tower, which is an exceptional case among exceptional cases.
This naturally provoked the dissatisfaction of Xie An, a young master, who had risen through the ranks to become a third-level official. Why was Xiao Fengque promoted to fifth-level immediately upon entering the ranks?
(Note: The fourth Earthly Branch is an old man who works in the Heavenly Mystery Pavilion and is unable to go on field missions. Therefore, the third Earthly Branch, who had worked his way up through the ranks, and the rising star, the fifth Earthly Branch, were forced to become a pair.)
Then comes the much-anticipated section on arrogance and prejudice:
Xie An: I'm going to go and meet this fifth brother who doesn't live up to his name.
Xiao Fengque: A member of the Xie family? The Xie family has been scholars for generations. Why is the second-generation scion of the family causing trouble at Tianji Tower instead of taking the imperial examination?
However, because Eunuch Fu was truly despicable, Xiao Fengque and Xie An in the first part had to work together to take down this old eunuch. The two didn't have time to compete with each other.
The first part has relatively little romance. However, there's still one scene that's quite memorable: after Xiao Fengque kills Eunuch Fu, Xie An is the first to discover it. The two of them then burn Eunuch Fu's body together…
[Xiao Fengque and Xie An standing by the fire.jpg]
A pair of despicable people using Grandpa Fu's corpse to warm themselves by the fire.
Xiao Fengque asked Xie An why, and Xie An replied that it was because Eunuch Fu also had a feud with the Xie family.
But then the scene shifts abruptly, Xie An's father appears, mentioning that the imperial court is investigating the death of Eunuch Fu. The father's nonchalant manner makes it hard to believe the Xie family had a grudge against Eunuch Fu…
In summary: To avoid Xiao Fengque owing him a favor, he fabricated a family feud. He absolutely adores [delicious food].
The first part ended there. The second part followed immediately. The second part is hailed as a bible by fans of the original film's "Sanwu" couple; the quirky relationship between the two is incredibly captivating.
A notorious thief, the Tiger of Sichuan, has appeared in the martial arts world.
The two men disagreed on this point:

Xiao Fengque believes that in the process of solving a case, physical evidence can be obtained by any means necessary, but when it comes to obtaining witness testimony, the psychological well-being and safety of the witnesses themselves must be taken into account.
Xie An, however, believes that everyone has the obligation to bring the truth to light, and witnesses have no right to refuse. (To be honest, this guy is really cold-blooded; the way he forced the mother and child to tell the truth is no different from a villain.)
So this plastic pairing broke up.
P.S.: There will be countless more clashes of values like this in the future.

Normally, a partnership should end in bitter enmity after it ends. But this couple was different. The first thing they did after breaking up was... to sabotage each other.
Some childish behaviors:

This mutual sabotage ultimately led to a disaster, and the "Tiger of Sichuan" grew wings and escaped.
Next comes the much-anticipated scene of mutual domestic violence:

Are you here to fight or to flirt?
After the fight, the two tried to capture the "Tiger of Shu" again using their own methods, but they ended up being surrounded and trapped in a huge pit, where they could only wait to die.
Even in a life-or-death situation, the two were still arguing, listing each other's faults. The central theme: It's all your fault!
Finally, the Tiger from Shu got annoyed by their bickering and came to scold them. At that moment, the two seemingly connected by spirit, and they began to form a human pyramid, with Xiao Fengque leaping off Xie An's shoulders!
Rare internet video: [Xiao Fengque stepping on Xie An's neck.gif]
Xiao Fengque kicked the "Tiger of Shu" down, ultimately rescuing Xie An.
The two reconciled, each receiving dozens of lashes, and emerged from the ordination room... laughing heartily at each other...
The third part follows immediately:
Xiao Fengque called Xie An a spoiled brat who was ignorant of the hardships of ordinary people. Xie An didn't say anything at the time, and just when we thought he didn't care, Xie An in the finale...

Please note this steamed bun; it's still here.

The next second, it appeared in Xie An's hand, and a piece of silver appeared on the table.

The next second, Xie An appeared by the river, taking bites of a cornbread bun.
It is known that Xiao Fengque and Xie An had eaten at the tavern before coming out. Why would Xie An, who was already full, make this puzzling move?

Oh... So it turns out Xiao Fengque was standing on a boat on the riverbank, talking to the boatman.
