Li Ruhui had memorized all the information about Tianguang No. 1. According to the information, Tianguang No. 1 was a highly educated woman; although she hadn't studied abroad, she was still a rare high-level intellectual in the country. The information described her as taciturn, well-mannered, and quiet. She would be easily overlooked in a crowd.
However, this person is said to have been a member of the Party for more than ten years and has carried out many undercover missions without ever failing.
Providing cover and playing a supporting role for such a young talent somewhat lessened Li Ruhui's dissatisfaction and resentment. If possible, Li Ruhui would even like to spar with him and see whether the professional tactics he learned in Carterlain were more effective, or whether Tianguang No. 1's self-taught, unorthodox methods would prevail.
With anticipation for his first partner, Li Ruhui arrived in Ruguan with a couple of overseas Chinese, posing as Tianguang No. 1's cousin and fiancé.
Li Ruhui first encountered Tianguang No. 1 in a coffee shop in Ruguan. At the time, a classic old song called "Rain Disappears in the Water" was playing in the shop. As agreed, Li Ruhui entered the coffee shop carrying a rolled-up newspaper with a rose rolled inside.
Due to the top-secret nature of her identity, no photos were kept inside Tianguang No. 1. Li Ruhui could only identify her by observing her hand gestures during rendezvous.
Based on the rendezvous instructions, Tianguang-1 will tap a coded signal with sugar cubes from the dish.
Tap, tap, tap.
Li Ruhui heard a knocking sound. He looked toward the source of the sound and was immediately stunned.
There weren't just one person sitting at that table, but three. A middle-aged man with a large belly, and his wife sitting next to him. Across from them sat a very young woman, resting her chin on her hand, idly playing with a sugar cube.
Li Ruhui heard the lady earnestly admonishing him, "Little Li! Adding so much sugar to your coffee is the stuff of a bumpkin!"
Li Ruhui saw Xiao Li pick up another sugar cube and drop it into the coffee cup in front of him. *Plop*, the coffee splashed up, creating a murky spray. The woman, seemingly from Tianguang No. 1, gave the couple in front of her a provocative smile. That smile had nothing to do with being well-mannered or refined; instead, it had a touch of streetwise roguishness.
At that moment, for some reason, Li Ruhui suddenly had a bad feeling.
Li Ruhui prayed that it was just his imagination, his face lighting up with delight as he strode up to Tianguang No. 1: "Ming! Long time no see!"
Tian Guang No. 1 revealed an undisguised look of surprise. Her acting skills were indeed in line with the qualities of a secret agent, Li Ruhui thought.
Following the role of her fiancé, Li Ruhui gently bent down and hugged Tianguang No. 1: "Ming, I missed you so much. I wanted to go to your workplace to see you, but I didn't expect to meet you here."
Tianguang No. 1 froze for a moment. Li Ruhui saw that the middle-aged couple opposite him—Lu Huaizhang, the director of the Ninth Bureau, and his wife—also had surprised expressions.
Li Ruhui uttered the secret code: "Ming, it's been 1559 days since we last met... Don't you have anything to say to me?"
As agreed, Tianguang No. 1 should remain silent, take a sip of coffee, and after she puts down her coffee cup, Li Ruhui will give the second coded message.
As expected, Tianguang No. 1 picked up his coffee and took a sip.
Li Ruhui was so pleased that he didn't notice the strange and awkward atmosphere at the table. He continued, "I wanted to give you a surprise, but since I've met you here, here you go."
Li Ruhui took out the rose and held it out to Tianguang No. 1 with one hand. Before he could say anything more—
"puff--"
Tianguang No. 1 spat out a mouthful of coffee, which flew over the bright red roses and landed precisely on Li Ruhui's face.
