Upon hearing that voice, a flood of complex emotions welled up inside Shang Yechu, leaving her momentarily speechless.
I thought I would never have the chance to hear that voice again in my life.
"Did you just wake up?" In the end, Shang Yechu could only utter this one sentence.
The other person gave a long "hmm".
Shang Yechu opened her mouth: "It's one o'clock in the afternoon, Sheng Wenzhi."
"It's already one o'clock?" Sheng Wenzhi paused for a second, seemingly checking the time. "I overslept today."
Shang Yechu suddenly recalled her brief cohabitation with Sheng Wenzhi and couldn't help but retort, "Actually, it was only an hour over."
Sheng Wenzhi showed no sign of embarrassment: "How about we get together? We haven't seen each other in ages."
Shang Yechu simply couldn't understand this person's thought process. The break during the "The Mute Woman" period was as clear as if it were yesterday for her; just thinking about Sheng Wenzhi's past deception and contempt still ignited her anger and shame. Yet Sheng Wenzhi could be so calm and composed, as if that incident had never happened at all.
Since she needed his help, Shang Yechu didn't dwell on her emotions any longer: "I have something I want to ask you. I can't go to your house, you—"
Shang Ye paused for a moment. She didn't really want to tell Sheng Wenzhi her home address, even though the place was practically a hotel to her.
"Then shall I go to your house?" Sheng Wenzhi seemed oblivious to Shang Yechu's hesitation. "You need to make a reservation to go to the club. Is your business urgent? If not, we can talk about it after you've made the reservation."
Shang Yechu was naturally anxious; it's no exaggeration to say that Shang Yechu was almost frantic with worry.
"Come to my house," Shang Yechu said, having made up her mind. "I'll have my driver pick you up."
---------
When Sheng Wenzhi arrived, Shang Yechu had just changed into her business negotiation attire. This was prepared for her by Ji Juntao. Shang Yechu had worn this kind of clothing many times, but wearing it at home still felt strange, like she was cosplaying.
Shang Yechu hoped this conversation would be more formal, rather than a long-awaited meeting between her and Sheng Wen, a friend she hadn't seen in a long time.
When Shang Yechu first saw Sheng Wenzhi, she admitted she was taken aback. Sheng Wenzhi had become much thinner, and his hair had grown longer, hanging loosely down his back. Compared to his previous androgynous handsomeness, his temperament and appearance had become much sharper. If he used to be four parts masculine and six parts feminine, now he was five parts masculine and five parts feminine.
Upon entering, Sheng Wenzhi saw Shang Yechu's outfit, raised an eyebrow, and a canine tooth popped out of his mouth: "This is the first time I've seen you wear clothes like this. It looks like you stole it."
Shang Yechu took a deep breath: "Your hair has grown long again. Are you getting ready to put it up—Miss Shengda?"
Sheng Wen was taken aback, but instead of getting angry, he explained seriously, "I've been writing a novel lately and haven't been out for a long time. But this outfit does look a bit strange on you. Aren't you tired wearing this at home? I always wear pajamas at home."
In just three sentences, Shang Yechu once again experienced that familiar feeling of talking past each other.
This is Sheng Wenzhi. When you speak to him, he only lets what interests him enter his brain; the rest is blocked, processed casually, and then discarded. He is forever self-centered, forever immersed in his own world, and forever incapable of speaking human language!
Looking at the other person's handsome face, Shang Yechu already foresaw the difficulty of the negotiations to come.
“Let’s leave the topic of clothes and hair behind,” Shang Yechu gestured to stop. “Let’s go inside—let’s talk in the study.”
Sheng Wenzhi yawned: "Is there anything to eat? I haven't had breakfast."
After thinking for a moment, he added, "I didn't eat lunch either, I didn't eat dinner yesterday, and I didn't eat lunch yesterday either."
Sheng Wenzhi's work-rest schedule was comparable to Xu Hanwen's temper during filming, and Shang Yechu had already foreseen this situation.
There is bread in the study.
What kind of bread?
"Creamy bread".
Sheng Wen frowned: "I don't eat cream bread."
Shang Yechu patiently replied, "There's milk."
"The milk smells fishy. Don't you remember? You drank all my milk when I was in junior high."
"..." Shang Yechu smiled slightly, "Apple, is that alright now?"
