Chapter 314 Online Meetings (1/2)

With a ding, the computer screen lit up, and Gu Wenhua's face appeared.

Behind Gu Wenhua was a window, outside which stretched the yellow sky of Jinsha City. Even though the computer screen was severely distorted, Shang Yechu could tell at a glance that Gu Wenhua's skin had darkened considerably, and he had lost a lot of weight, making him almost unrecognizable from before.

It seems he's had a tough time these past six months.

After resting for two days, Ji Jun was finally able to get up and get things done. The first thing she did was find Gu Wenhua, set up an online meeting room, and start discussing the movie production.

Shang Yechu was also in the conference room, serving as the meeting host.

Upon seeing Shang Yechu, Gu Wenhua was visibly stunned for a moment, then suddenly reached out his hand—Shang Yechu only saw the window displaying the three words "Gu Wenhua" go black as Gu Wenhua hurriedly turned off the camera on his end.

What's going on here? After not seeing each other for several months, Gu Wenhua's social anxiety has worsened; he doesn't even dare to turn on his webcam when meeting acquaintances.

Shang Yechu didn't mind these minor details, but not being able to judge Gu Wenhua's thoughts from his expression made her feel uneasy. Just as she was hesitating whether to tease Gu Wenhua and ask him to turn on the camera, suddenly, the window of "Gu Wenhua" lit up again.

Was it an accidental touch? No, Gu Wenhua's face seems to have changed. It's become much fairer, his chin is more pointed, his lips are bright red, and his eyes seem bigger...

Shang Yechu almost burst out laughing. It turned out that Gu Wenhua had just turned on a beauty filter! But it seemed that the filter was too exaggerated, making him look like a snake spirit.

Gu Wenhua clearly noticed his mistake, and his face, which was twisted into a triangle, showed an embarrassed expression: "Ye Chu, long time no see."

That expression on his face was so comical that Shang Yechu barely managed to suppress her laughter: "Long time no see. How's filming with Director Gao Sanfu going? Is it progressing smoothly?"

Gu Wenhua blinked, and after a long pause, said, "It's alright. I learned a lot."

Ji Juntao's profile picture popped up. She was the last to log on. The woman in the picture wore light makeup and looked quite well. The background was a virtual one provided by the video conferencing software; it seemed she didn't want Gu Wenhua to know she was in the hospital.

"Xiao Gu," Ji Juntao got straight to the point, "I invited you here today to discuss co-producing a film. Did Ye Chu tell you about it?"

"Not yet." Gu Wenhua was taken aback, then a look of surprise appeared on his face. "Ye Chu, you're making another movie? What's the subject matter this time?"

Before Shang Yechu could speak, Ji Juntao cut Gu Wenhua off, saying, "Don't be so happy yet. Let me state my position first: I am firmly against Yechu making this film. She wants to collaborate with you, and I want you to persuade her to stop making it."

Ji Juntao's acting was quite convincing.

Gu Wenhua hesitated noticeably, a pause so long that Shang Yechu almost thought his signal was stuck.

Ji Juntao sent a password-protected copy of the novel and script for "The Rules General Store" through the conference room chat box: "The password is the premiere date of 'The Mute Woman,' take a look."

Gu Wenhua did not immediately accept the file, but glanced at the computer screen. Judging from the direction, he was probably looking at the profile picture frame where Shang Yechu was.

Fearing that Gu Wenhua would be frightened out of his wits, Shang Yechu quickly said, "Turn off the camera first, and watch it slowly. We'll make a decision after you've watched it."

Gu Wenhua felt as if he had been granted a pardon and immediately stretched out his hand. Two seconds later, the snake-like face flashed and turned into a default profile picture with the character "Gu".
