Chapter 346 Audition Room Meeting (1/2)

Audition room for "Half a Day".

The lead and supporting actors of "Half a Sky" are signed with different companies, and some are even self-employed. Holding a meeting at any company would seem odd. A private gathering wouldn't convey the formality of the meeting. Adding to the urgency, after much back and forth, the meeting place was ironically chosen to be the very location where "Half a Sky" had originally auditioned.

This is all thanks to Xu Hanwen and Zheng Bohan, those two old rivals. After receiving Shang Yechu's call, the two of them worked through the night to write a script for a promotional video, telling the Ruguan TV station that they needed to use the location for secret rehearsals and also to discuss promotional matters with the actors. Xu Hanwen had some connections with the leaders of Ruguan TV, and the production team was also struggling with the slow-rising ratings of "Tianban," so Ruguan TV immediately agreed.

Since "Half a Day," Shi Shan hasn't taken on any acting roles. Xu Hanwen was exhausted from filming and was bedridden for several months without work. Qi Ming and Xue Haodong did join a new production team, but Shang Yechu repeatedly stated that the situation was urgent, so the two of them also took leave to come.

At this point, the director, screenwriter, lead actor, and supporting actors of "Half a Sky" have basically all arrived.

Shang Yechu held a manuscript in her hand, with a white projection screen behind her. The manuscript was written by Shang Yechu herself, and the PowerPoint presentation was made by Ji Juntao.

Shang Yechu already knew the contents of both the manuscript and the PPT by heart; she could recite them with her eyes closed. The only reason she was still holding them was… nervousness.

Can she convince everyone?

Everyone arrived on time. The interview tables were removed and replaced with a large round table. A group of people sat around the round table, and Shang Yechu felt like King Arthur for a moment. Unfortunately, none of the men, women, young and old knights around the table were easy to fool.

Of those present, Xu Hanwen had lost a lot of weight, his cheeks were sunken, while the others looked much the same. Shi Shan remained as charming and witty as ever, chatting and laughing with the others, and before Shang Yechu could even speak, the atmosphere was already quite lively.

Seeing that everyone had arrived, Shang Yechu coughed lightly.

The tacit understanding from their collaboration still lingered. Shi Shan paused slightly, then quickly ended the conversation, and the room fell silent for a moment.

Once the room fell silent, Shang Yechu found herself at a loss for what to do. The phrase "giving a report to a former colleague" encapsulated all the awkwardness and helplessness that humanity experiences.

"Dear... teachers," a dry feeling welled up in his throat, and Shang Yechu forgot his words as soon as he started to speak, "Thank you all, uh..."

Qi Ming laughed and said, "Ye Zi, no need for formalities! We're all family. You can start now. From what I'm hearing, you want to talk about the ratings for 'Half the Sky'?"

Qi Ming was of advanced age and high moral character; even Xue Haodong had to call her Sister Qi. She said that everyone was family, so even if the people in the room had to hold their noses, they had to act like family for a while. Everyone immediately agreed.

Zheng Bohan said, "You're always so polite, kid. Why are you being so polite with us? If the show flops, who among us will be happy?"

Qi Ming and Zheng Bohan, one playing the good cop and the other the bad cop, immediately set the tone for the meeting: this was a battle for survival for the "Tianban" production team.

Since it involved interests rather than personal relationships, Shang Yechu's tension immediately eased considerably. She cleared her throat, pressed the switch on her electronic pen, and a large title and a subtitle clearly appeared on the white screen behind her:

"Platform-based self-destruction"

—The Mechanism and Timeliness of Trending in the Internet Age: A Case Study of Ru Guanwei

Shi Shan raised an eyebrow slightly when he saw the title.

"Please take a look." Shang Yechu tapped the title in the air with her electronic pen. "What we're going to talk about today, I'm sure you all already know—the problem of the cold start in viewership for 'Tianban' and the slow growth in its viewership. The culprit behind these two problems..."

The slideshow changed, and the logos of Ruguan TV and Tuiqi Video appeared side by side at the top.

"It's the broadcasting mechanism of Ruguan TV."

Xue Haodong suddenly coughed loudly.
