Chapter 427 Short Story (2/2)

People like Zheng Bohan are indeed a minority in this world. Shao Guangji, for example, was very surprised and deeply moved by Shang Yechu's theory, but his determination to cast the role remained unshaken.

In the entertainment industry, you really can't rely on acting skills and smooth talk alone.

A sense of helplessness welled up in Shang Yechu's heart. She originally didn't want to use that method, but it seemed that she had no choice but to use it now.

Seeing that Shang Ye Chu had fallen silent, Shao Guangji guessed that she was planning a new line of conversation. He smiled slightly and said, "In any case, it was a very pleasant conversation with Miss Ye. There aren't many young people with your ideas these days. If there is an opportunity in the future, I really hope to cooperate with Miss Ye."

This is a common polite phrase used in the industry, indicating that the guest is to leave. Unexpectedly, Shang Yechu seemed quite oblivious to this, instead of quickly taking her leave, her eyes lit up: "Really?"

Shao Guangji was taken aback. He couldn't very well say it was just a polite remark, so he could only smile and say, "Of course."

Shang Yechu smiled slightly, looking at Shao Guangji with the anticipation of a junior, her eyes gleaming: "That would be wonderful! Speaking of which, our company has also bought the rights to some of Ai Xiaodong's novels. If Mr. Shao Guangji could handle the adaptation after finishing 'The Heavenly Emperor,' that would be truly..."

There are actually people in the world who would readily accept such a situation!

Shao Guangji was momentarily at a loss, unsure whether to praise Ye Chu for her boldness or inwardly criticize her shamelessness. Such a promise couldn't be spoken aloud, but an open refusal would be awkward; for a moment, he was at a loss.

When dealing with someone of refined character, the one with a thick skin always ends up losing badly. Shao Guangji was speechless for a moment after being rebuked by Shang Yechu before finally saying, "That's good. What did your company buy? '129,600'? I remember that's still in litigation. What else?"

Shang Yechu picked up her teacup and said casually, "Let me think, they're all short stories. Like 'Stargazing,' '12=?' 'Though a Thousand People Stand Against Me, I Will Go,' 'Fire!' 'New World,' I think there are more than a dozen. My boss was in charge of all of these, so I can't remember them all."

After saying these words, Shang Yechu picked up her teacup and took a sip. Shao Guangji knew how to enjoy life; he always served Da Hong Pao tea to his guests. The tea was fragrant and delicious.

Under the guise of drinking tea, Shang Yechu stole a glance at Shao Guangji's expression.

At the edge of Shang Yechu's line of sight, Shao Guangji's expression froze. Although it was only for a moment, Shang Yechu keenly noticed it.

Shang Yechu slightly curled the corners of her mouth, making the herbal tea in her mouth taste even sweeter.

Shao Guangji raised his hand and gently touched his forehead: "Aren't these all short stories? It seems a bit difficult to revise them, doesn't it?"

Shang Yechu shrugged like an ordinary young man: "Who knows? My boss said we might have to ask someone to revise it and turn it into a big world."

Shao Guangji coughed lightly and suddenly said, "The story 'Twilight Fire' is quite good; I like it very much..."

"I bought this one too," Shang Yechu replied considerately. "My boss especially likes this one."

"What about 'Tiangong Kaiwu 2100'?"

"I bought that too. And its sister book, Dream Pool Essays 2200."

Shao Guangji's expression remained gentle and polite, and his voice was calm: "I see. What copyright did you buy, and for how many years?"

With a smile, Shang Yechu held out her empty teacup to Shao Guangji: "Teacher Shao, could you hand me the teapot?"

Shao Guangji casually picked up the teapot and poured half a cup of tea for Shang Yechu. His eyes were fixed on Shang Yechu.

Shang Yechu swirled her teacup and smiled, "Of course, it's the exclusive film adaptation rights in China. I think it's five years, or ten? I can't remember."

Clang. Shao Guangji slammed the teapot on the table, making a crisp sound.

"Is Teacher Shao interested?" Shang Yechu asked with a hint of anticipation.

“Well,” Shao Guangji pulled a tissue from the wooden box on the table and wiped his hands, “wait a moment. I suddenly remembered something I need to take care of first.”

Shang Yechu, understanding the situation, said, "In that case, I'll take my leave now. Teacher Shao, you're busy."

"Wait!" Shao Guangji said, "You..."

Shao Guangji wanted to persuade Shang Yechu to stay, but suddenly realized that he couldn't find any excuse at all!

The role in *The Heavenly Emperor*? That's already been said. He just firmly rejected Shang Yechu. As for the other short story adaptations? He hasn't agreed to Shang Yechu's offer yet, so what's there to discuss?

"It's alright, Teacher Shao," Shang Yechu said with a sweet smile. "You go about your business, I'll come again in the future."

With that, Shang Yechu finished his tea in one gulp, politely stood up, nodded, and walked out the door.

Shao Guangji was at a loss and could only watch helplessly as Shang Yechu's figure gracefully disappeared into the distance. After a long while, he finally took out his phone and dialed a number.

The phone rang with the sounds of revelry, cheers, and villagers singing folk songs—a cacophony of noise. It seemed the person he was contacting was enjoying a joyous rural festival.

Shao Guangji waited for a while, and when it quieted down a bit, he immediately said, "Old Ai, it's me! I have something to ask you..."
