Yang Huanyi was taken aback: "Which building did we first meet? What's the difference?"
Shang Yechu looked around the room: "If it's in the front building, then Lin Fengyu took the initiative to find Zhao Lele—of course, it's also possible that Zhao Cheng summoned her and they bumped into each other; if it's in the back building, then Zhao Lele took the initiative to find Lin Fengyu for some reason."
After Shang Yechu's explanation, Yang Huanyi understood. These two locations, seemingly very different, actually determined Lin Fengyu and Zhao Lele's psychological state upon their first meeting. They might even have determined something else entirely…
Shang Yechu paced around the room, several possibilities flashing through her mind. Suddenly, she remembered something and turned to Yang Huanyi, saying, "Sister Yi, go to the next room, sit on the bed, and say something to me."
"say what?"
“Anything is fine,” Shang Yechu urged, “just keep the volume at… the volume when men and women are doing that kind of thing.”
Yang Huanyi looked embarrassed and left, completely bewildered. A moment later, a muffled voice came from the next room: "Hannibal Lecter, does your mother breastfeed you?"
It turns out that Yang Huanyi also saw the lines in the book.
Shang Yechu's mind suddenly lit up. He walked up to the choir's group photo and examined it carefully.
Yang Huanyi entered the room and saw Shang Yechu looking down at the group photo. She went up to him and asked, "What did you find?"
“The materials and construction of the front and back buildings are pretty much the same,” Shang Yechu said. “If the soundproofing of the back building is bad, the soundproofing of the front building won’t be much better either. Zhao Cheng lives next door to Zhao Lele. With such poor soundproofing, it’s unlikely that he would invite a woman into his room next to his daughter to do that kind of thing.”
So that's what it was for.
Yang Huanyi breathed a sigh of relief for some reason. But seeing Shang Yechu's academically focused expression, she felt a pang of worry. This attitude was definitely not how one should treat someone about to fall in love. Was there still any hope for her and Shang Yechu?
“In other words,” Yang Huanyi said, suppressing her emotions, “Zhao Cheng’s ‘favor’ with these women must have been his own initiative to come to the back building.”
Shang Yechu pointed to the group photo and said to Yang Huanyi, "Sister, look. Look at the shoes these people are wearing in the photo."
Yang Huanyi leaned closer, pressing her head against Shang Yechu's. The choir members' uniforms and shoes in the group photo were all the same style. However, the photo quality was unclear, and it took Yang Huanyi a while to notice something amiss.
"Aren't these the shoes that Luo Yao showed us?"
Luo Yao showed Yang Huanyi and Shang Yechu many of Lin Fengyu's old belongings, all treasured by the real-life inspiration for Zhao Lele. Among them was a pair of shoes exactly like those worn by the choir members!
Shang Yechu spun around twice, a terrifying thought suddenly rising in her mind: "What if Lin Fengyu was actually arranged into the choir by Zhao Cheng when she first entered, just like the other girls?"
Yang Huanyi paused for a moment: "You mean—"
