It was past midnight when we saw off the fan named Xiaoxiao.
Valentine's Day was completely over, and Shang Yechu's movie-watching plan had fallen through. Taking out her phone, Yang Huanyi sent Shang Yechu a long string of messages, filling the entire screen.
Shang Yechu felt a pang of guilt and remorse. She typed several sentences, then deleted them.
She didn't have the courage to apologize to Yang Huanyi, let alone defend herself. Although she didn't think she had done anything wrong, matters of the heart are far more complex than right or wrong.
Let's talk about it tomorrow.
Shang Yechu lazily got into another car and said to the driver, "To the MQ Cinema."
The theater is already booked, so leaving it empty isn't a good idea. Shang Yechu is wide awake right now, so watching that old-fashioned romance movie might be a good way to lull her to sleep.
There were few pedestrians on the street, and the car arrived at the theater smoothly. It only took twenty minutes.
Shang Yechu walked into the reserved VIP hall, randomly found a seat in the first row, and left after the staff brought over the remote control equipment.
The list consisted of one hundred classic romance films that Shang Yechu had already selected. After glancing at it, Shang Yechu felt the men and women on the covers were smiling provocatively. She randomly selected a film called "Delayed Train" and started it.
Shang Yechu had seen this movie while analyzing film clips. It was a rather heartwarming and harmonious romantic comedy. Given everything that had happened, Shang Yechu was afraid she would burst into tears if she watched any more of those melodramatic and tragic stories.
I impatiently skipped the opening credits. The male and female leads started arguing, chattering away. So annoying, I passed.
In the middle section, the male and female leads start to flirt, dragging things out, which is too cloying, so I passed on it.
In the latter half of the film, the male and female leads are forced to separate, and the crying and wailing are quite noisy, so I'll pass.
The finale, with the male and female leads getting back together and all sweet and loving, was disgusting. Pass.
Shang Yechu skipped through the progress bar at breakneck speed, turning a perfectly good romance movie into a farce.
"Damn Valentine's Day!" Shang Yechu thought bitterly. "Down with Valentine's Day!"
Shang Yechu picked up her phone again, trying to send something to Yang Huanyi. What should she send? How about "kneeling.jpg"? She knew when to back down; that's how it's always portrayed in movies.
"Sorry, guest, cell phones are not allowed in the cinema."
This was a luxurious, soundproof VIP room that Shang Yechu had booked all night. Forget about using your phone here; you could practically tap dance here too. Shang Yechu ground her teeth and looked up—
Shang Yechu was stunned.
Yang Huanyi was standing in front of her, with his back to the movie screen, smiling at her.
Shang Yechu stood there stunned for a moment, then suddenly jumped up and excitedly hugged Yang Huanyi: "You—you've come."
Yang Huanyi had been deliberately using a high-pitched voice just now; voice changing is commonplace for actors. Now, switching to a normal voice, it sounded incredibly gentle: "So you still know to come?"
"I...I," Shang Yechu stammered, both surprised and delighted, "when did you arrive?"
“It’s been a while,” Yang Huanyi said with a smile. “I’ve been waiting in this cinema for three hours, but it’s a pity that this busy man can’t even reply to a message.”
She had always been tolerant of Shang Yechu, but this time she had waited too long, so she couldn't help but feel a little resentful.
"Sorry," Shang Yechu mumbled, "I met a fan, and we got so caught up in chatting that I lost track of time..."
"I knew you'd have such a bad memory." Yang Huanyi ruffled Shang Yechu's hair. "Didn't you see me sitting in the back when you came in?"
"Now you see." Shang Yechu fawned, taking Yang Huanyi's hand and pulling her to sit down. "You must be tired, right? Are you hungry or thirsty?"
"The cinema offers extra food," Yang Huanyi said casually.
Shang Yechu was taken aback: "Huh, but how did you know...?"
Yang Huanyi said quietly, "I swallowed my pride and contacted Boss Ji to get your assistant's phone number." This assistant was naturally Lu Ji. It's a big taboo for an artist's assistant to contact other artists without permission, so Lu Ji and Yang Huanyi didn't exchange contact information when they were in Xiatan.
This VIP theater was booked by Shang Yechu using Lu Ji's ID. Since Lu Ji couldn't come in person, he instructed the staff that anyone who mentioned the theater number could enter. Predictably, Yang Huanyi found out Shang Yechu's theater number from Lu Ji and flew in from his hometown to surprise her.
Shang Yechu: "..."
At this moment, Shang Yechu felt that he deserved to be torn apart by five horses!
The two settled into their chairs. Shang Yechu watched the footage of "Late Train" and no longer found it boring. The male and female leads no longer looked repulsive. She slid the progress bar forward, ready to replay the film.
Yang Huanyi suddenly said, "You're not wearing your promotional outfit?"
"Huh?" Shang Yechu looked down. She had arrived in a hurry and was still wearing the dress she wore to the banquet. "Ru Guan invited us to dinner. What's wrong?"
The question abruptly ended, and upon seeing Yang Huanyi's clothes, Shang Yechu knew why she had asked that question.
Yang Huanyi was actually wearing a promotional outfit for "Happiness Street," and it was even a men's style with the character "幸" (happiness) written on it!
Yang Huanyi sighed: "I asked your assistant for the clothes. I thought we could wear matching outfits. I didn't expect you had already changed."
Shang Yechu suddenly couldn't speak. After a long while, she stammered, "I'll go change my clothes—"
"No need," Yang Huanyi quickly pulled her back. "Matching outfits are just a formality, why bother about it? As long as we're together, that's enough."
Shang Yechu's heart suddenly began to pound violently. She sat down again and pulled Yang Huanyi close.
The music from the romantic comedy began to play, and the finale of the comedy film was playing on the screen.
They kissed amidst the flickering lights and shadows of a romantic comedy.
