Chapter 582 "Happiness Street Side Story" On the set in July, the sun in Hengshi was as scorching as a heated brick bed.
As soon as Shang Yechu got off the plane, she gulped down a glass of iced tea. To keep her trip a secret, she had to be fully bundled up even in this weather, and she was so hot she was almost dehydrated.
I traveled a long way from Yinzhou back to Hengshi. After landing, I didn't even have time to rest before rushing to the film set on Xingfu Commercial Street.
Shang Yechu makes a cameo appearance as herself in "The Legend of Happiness Street." How the extra Yechu becomes the top star Yechu, and how she repays the street that nurtured her after achieving fame, is a major selling point of the series. Of course, the value of a cameo role lies in its limited screen time, creating mystery and keeping the audience in suspense. Therefore, Shang Yechu's screen time is not extensive.
The company had already coordinated the filming schedule for "The Legend of Happiness Street" with the "Heavenly Emperor" production team, so there was no need to ask for leave this time. However, the time was very tight, with only three days. Shang Yechu had to finish filming all her scenes in "The Legend of Happiness Street" within those three days.
"The Legend of Happiness Street" is a modern drama, and the actors are all from Qingping Entertainment, making it easy to coordinate and the filming progress is very fast. In order not to delay the filming, Shang Yechu did not make a big fuss and quietly slipped into the crew like a fish.
Upon arriving at the film set, Shang Yechu immediately sensed that something was amiss.
Happiness Commercial Street lay silently under the scorching sun, with only the occasional chirping of cicadas breaking the afternoon heat. Members of the film crew stood in twos and threes, some with blank expressions, others chatting amongst themselves.
It's afternoon, the usual working time. But filming hasn't started yet. To be precise, everyone is in a pre-production stance, but there's not a trace of actors or the director on set.
The set was quiet. Such quiet is rare for any film crew. An inexplicable tension hung in the air.
Shang Yechu frowned, scanned the crowd, walked towards the most familiar executive director, and gently patted him on the shoulder.
The executive director jumped back in surprise, about to cry out, when Shang Yechu put a finger to his lips in a "shh" gesture. The executive director understood and quickly darted to a less crowded area.
"What are we waiting for now?" Shang Yechu asked in a low voice.
The executive director looked embarrassed: "Sister Ye, this..."
"Just say it," Shang Yechu turned her head and glanced around the room, "If anyone dares to cause trouble for you, just contact Sister Liu."
The executive director coughed and whispered, "Wait for the lead actor."
Shang Yechu frowned: "Be more specific. Which lead actor are we waiting for? What are we waiting for? Makeup, hair, lighting, set design?"
"Wait for the two lead actors." The assistant director looked increasingly embarrassed, but spoke quickly and precisely, as if afraid Shang Yechu wouldn't hear him clearly. "This scene is about Zhuang Sheng stealing Teacher Qi Ming's heirloom bracelet to hold an art exhibition, only to encounter a conman. The conman then gives the stolen bracelet to Wu Jianing. When Wu Jianing is showing it off to Sister Hong, Sister Hong discovers that the bracelet belongs to Teacher Qi Ming. In the end, everyone finds out what Zhuang Sheng did, and they all fill his paint with water guns and beat him up..."
Shang Yechu had read the script for "The Legend of Happiness Street" and remembered this episode. It used a multi-narrative structure similar to "Two Big Smoking Barrels," which was quite interesting. However, considering the plot, it became clear why they were waiting for the main actors.
Shang Yechu sneered, "Zhuang Sheng is unwilling to film because he's afraid of damaging his idol image?"
The executive director nodded awkwardly: "Yes. Zhuang Sheng didn't really like this episode to begin with. He felt that his image in this episode wasn't very good, a bit... ridiculous."
Shang Yechu's lips twitched slightly: "I'm afraid there's more than that, isn't there?"
