Chapter 6 Half a Month (1/2)

Shang Yechu stood in front of the mirror, looking at herself in the mirror.

Half a month has passed, and she has been increasing her beauty stat by two points every day. Today she has added exactly thirty points, so it's time to see the results.

Shang Yechu leaned closer to the mirror.

Actually, there haven't been any major changes.

Her memory is now far superior to what it used to be; she remembers her appearance clearly from two weeks ago. So, noticing the changes wasn't too difficult for her.

Her eyes were slightly larger, and her messy eyebrows were a little neater. Her nose bridge seemed a bit higher, at least slightly more prominent.

Shang Yechu used to have no bridge to her nose at all. Her nose bridge was as flat as a panel. Now that she has this little bump, although it doesn't look much different from before, Shang Yechu is still very happy.

Shang Yechu's lips were very thick, and slightly underbite. Perhaps because the amount of fat added was too small, there was no change. They were still so thick that they could fill a plate.

The acne scars on her face have almost completely faded. Only some dead skin remains, which Shang Yechu plans to let disappear on its own.

As for skin color...

These past few days, Shang Yechu had intentionally reminded the system not to improve her skin texture while improving her appearance. Therefore, her skin remained dark and yellowish, quite dull.

As the saying goes, fair skin covers a hundred flaws; with dull skin and poor texture, subtle changes in facial features are easily concealed. Half a month has passed, and no one in the film studio has noticed Shang Yechu's transformation.

Only when he looked closely in the mirror could Shang Yechu see that although each change was only slight, the overall effect on his facial features was quite significant.

System: "The beauty score of normal humans is around 50-60. A score above 60 can be considered attractive, above 70 can be considered pretty, and above 80 can be considered beautiful."

"I'm 30 now, what level am I at?"

"Passerby A. You wouldn't notice them if you didn't look closely, but upon closer inspection, you'd find they're quite ugly."

Shang Yechu: "...You really are straightforward."

It's not just appearance that changes, but also knowledge.

In the past two weeks, Shang Yechu has read more than twenty literary works. Although this amount of reading is not enough by any standard, it is a huge improvement compared to her previous state of being overwhelmed with thoughts.

In addition to reading, Shang Yechu added a daily practice: calligraphy.

Her handwriting is really terrible. Intelligence can be changed, and reading can be accelerated, but calligraphy cannot be mastered quickly.

On her third day at the bookstore, Shang Yechu was doing bookkeeping for Grandma Hu, who had poor eyesight. With one stroke, she wrote a mess of characters, each stroke curving like a maggot, and together they looked as childish as a primary school student's handwriting.

Shang Yechu looked at her handwriting, which was exactly the same as in her previous life and showed no improvement, and fell silent.

Grandma Hu fell silent when she saw the accounts Shang Yechu had kept.

Grandma Hu remained silent for a long time, then finally put on her reading glasses and copied it over again.

Shang Yechu was deeply affected.

From that day on, Shang Yechu went to the wholesale market and bought a large bundle of cheap pencils and several thick stacks of rough draft paper. Grandma Hu's bookstore had all sorts of calligraphy practice books, including works by famous calligraphers and books for elementary school students to start with. Shang Yechu could freely pick them up to copy. He practiced for an hour every day.

The system initially thought Shang Yechu would reduce his reading time by an hour to practice calligraphy. However, Shang Yechu went even further, pushing his bedtime back by another hour.

The system also fell silent.

Shang Yechu was pushing her body to its limits. All other stats were increasing, except for her health, which was decreasing. Since the system couldn't force the host to do anything, 103 could only persuade her to exchange some health points. Shang Yechu's usual response was, "Thanks, maybe next time."

system:"……"

Anyway, there's a system for forced hibernation and hormonal regulation. Even if her physical condition is extremely poor, her brain and hormones will deceive her, making Shang Yechu feel a morbid sense of relaxation.

This routine of working as an extra and reading during the day, and reading and practicing calligraphy at night, lasted for a long time.

In order to gain weight, Shang Yechu not only ate the crew's boxed lunches and the meals prepared by Grandma Hu every day, but also ate a lot of cheap cocoa butter substitute chocolate or drank a lot of sweet carbonated soda.

The film studio is quite bustling at night. After filming, if Shang Yechu has time, she will go to the night market to stroll around.

Whether it's frying, stir-frying, deep-frying, braising, stewing, grilling, or boiling, whether it's chicken hearts, lamb lungs, offal, or eggs, gluten, sweet potatoes, or chestnuts, whether it flies in the sky, swims in the sea, runs on the ground, or grows in the soil, Shang Yechu eats it all without hesitation. She eats whatever is cheap and plentiful.

In short, in order to gain weight faster, Shang Yechu was frantically consuming fats and carbohydrates.

This deliberate, unrestrained, and even frantic binge eating also put a huge burden on Shang Yechu's body.

Although the system immediately converts the weight gain into other values after each meal, the damage to the stomach is irreversible.

Life as an extra on a film set wasn't easy either. Shang Yechu was short and not good-looking, so she could only get roles that were thankless and demanding.

In the standing-standing scene, she played a background maid who was not even shown in the long shot, but she had to stand still for several hours.

On the set of a suspense film, she played a corpse in a morgue. In such hot weather, her face was covered with a thick layer of powder, making it hard to breathe, just to look dead enough;

In the sweltering heat of August, she wore thick linen clothes, playing the role of an old, weak, sick, or disabled person being chased by soldiers. Horse hooves kicked up clouds of yellow dust on the dry ground, and Shang Yechu ran breathlessly, drenched in sweat.

A torrential downpour—artificial rain, of course—was underway. Shang Yechu, playing a flood-stricken peasant, was wailing and wading through a pool of water, clutching a prop baby. Dirty water choked him; the water was filthy and cold.

After filming wrapped, Shang Yechu climbed out of the water, soaking wet and shivering from the cold. There were no convenient changing rooms for extras, and the large changing room was packed with people because of the many flooded residents in the scene. She couldn't get in anytime soon. So she had to stand in the blazing sun in her wet clothes.

A gust of wind blew by, and the usually refreshing summer breeze made Shang Yechu shiver. She didn't care much and started eating her boxed lunch in her wet clothes, intending to change after finishing.

That evening, Shang Yechu caught a cold.
