Chapter 620 Blizzard Manor (Part 1) (Two chapters combined) (2/2)

"Alright, alright," the lady said impatiently, "You're the reporters who came to interview the master? Why are you so late? Come with me, the master is upstairs."

The noblewoman was naturally played by Mei Yaohong. With heavy makeup and luxurious clothes, she rolled her eyes, instantly exuding an aura of being someone you couldn't mess with.

"master!"

A terrified scream rang in everyone's ears, and a middle-aged fat man tumbled and scrambled down the stairs.

Fatty Zhang waved his hands wildly, his face contorted in exaggerated and comical terror: "The master is gone!"

Mei Yaohong frowned and said, "What's gone? Chef Zhang, what are you yelling about?"

"Madam!" Fatty Zhang cried, his face contorted with grief, "Master is gone!"

————

Master Mei is dead.

Zhang Pangzi is the head chef of the Mei family. In recent days, Master Mei has not had a good appetite and has been feeling listless. So Zhang Pangzi has been making some special dishes that are different from what others make and delivering them to Master Mei's room every day.

“Every day after the master finishes eating, I go into his room to clear out the dishes.” Fatty Zhang swallowed hard. “Today was no different. But when I got to the master’s room, I found him lying on the floor, twitching, and drooling from his mouth…”

Madam Mei fainted the moment she heard the news. The Mei mansion was in complete chaos. The eldest young master stopped looking at the snow, Fatty Zhang was just yelling his grievances, and the family doctor rushed upstairs—it was truly a scene of utter chaos.

The reporter Shang Yechu and the bag carrier Gu Wenhua stood awkwardly in the lobby, looking somewhat superfluous.

Gu Wenhua paused, then hesitated and said, "Shouldn't we be here?"

Ye Chu touched the camera in her bag, feeling a pang of unease. "How about we go to the police station and report this?"

The two of them moved silently toward the door, like a pair of quails with their wings tied.

"Boom!"

"Snap!"

A deafening clap of thunder suddenly rang out!

Gaa, gaa, gaa.

After the thunderclap, there was a few seconds of silence. The production team then added an animation of a flock of crows flying by.

Three seconds later, everyone in the room burst into laughter!

"Stop, stop, stop! I said stop!" Ye Chu laughed so hard she bent over, clutching her back. "Can the production team please put in a little more effort? I want to know, why is there thunder on a snowy day?"

Lin Hao, who plays the frail young master, said helplessly, "This is a snow-covered mansion, a snow-covered mansion. This is a classic mystery. If we don't lock you all up in the mansion, who will solve the mystery?"

Mei Yaohong, who had been holding back her laughter for a long time, finally burst out laughing and pounded the cushions on the sofa: "I can just imagine the production team frantically searching for the Thunder Sound Effects backstage. I bet they never expected that the detective would actually abandon his duties and run away!"

The program switched to animation, showing a group of small, dark stick figures awkwardly adjusting the sound effects backstage.

Ye Chu touched the newsboy cap on his head and said awkwardly, "Comrades, I'm a reporter. The detective role is for the last two episodes."

“I don’t care,” Mei Yaohong jumped up from the sofa, walked to Ye Chu’s side, patted her nose, and said with a laugh, “Anyway, it’s snowing heavily outside the Mei Mansion, making it impossible to walk. If you go out, you’ll die.”

(The production team adjusted the camera to a clear sky outside, and sprinkled a few large, cheap-looking snowflakes, among which were small, gleaming razor blades falling one after another.)

“That’s where you’re wrong, Reporter Ye,” Fatty Zhang said seriously. “If you were a reporter, and the richest man died, shouldn’t you try to get an exclusive story?”

The comments section erupted in agreement:

That's right!

Do you still want to improve?

This must be the fastest death in the show's history; Mr. Mei died before everyone had even arrived.

Now there really is no master.

“OK, OK,” Ye Chu raised her hands in surrender, “Let’s start over, Xiao Gu.”

Gu Wenhua nodded and snapped his fingers:

"Action!"

Almost instantly, everyone on the field changed their demeanor!

Mei Yaohong lay back down on the sofa and peacefully fainted; Lin Hao reverted to his frail and weak young master persona, his face filled with sorrow and bewilderment; Zhang Pangzi seamlessly transitioned to clutching his head and howling, "Young Master! I, Old Zhang, have been in the Mei family for over twenty years..."

Ye Chu's expression turned serious. She turned to Gu Wenhua and said, "No, we can't leave."

Gu Wenhua cooperatively replied, "Why?"

Ye Chu sighed: "Interviewing Master Mei is our mission. We need to see him alive or dead. Even if we can't interview the living Master, we have to reserve space in the newspaper for the dead old ghost."

The comments section was filled with laughter:

[A behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the movie and TV series "Happiness Street":]

Now I know how these guys behave on set!

[Gu Wenhua didn't even laugh; if it were me, I would have collapsed to the ground.]

Looking at it this way, Lin Hao's acting is so immature. Ye Chumei and Fatty Zhang got into character instantly, while Lin Hao was stunned for a moment.

While the comments section was buzzing with excitement, Ye Chu and Gu Wenhua had already gone upstairs and, together with the others, began investigating the scene of Master Mei's death.

The scene of the death was chaotic. Food was spilled on the floor, and half a plate of cold noodles was even spilled directly on Mr. Mei. The white foam at the corners of the corpse's mouth was still wet. The window was open, and there were many signs that the room had been ransacked.

A complete mess.

Ye Chu circled the corpse, snapping numerous photos to preserve the scene of the crime. After she finished taking the pictures, the family doctor examined Old Master Mei's body and said gravely, "It was poisoning."

It was indeed poisoning.

The family doctor is Dr. Wu, played by Wu Jianing.

As soon as Wu Jianing appeared, Wu Jiawumeizhi (a user name) quickly scrolled up the copied comments one by one until the screen was full. Seeing the yellow comments representing Sister Lemon overshadow the green comments representing Leaf Bud, she finally felt a little better.

The production team of "Happiness Street Chronicles" was quite sensible, assigning Ningning a positive role. Roles like family doctors are common for murderers; the most captivating characters in variety shows are often the detectives and murderers, and sometimes the murderers are even more compelling than the detectives.

Although Ye Chu took on the identity of a detective, Wu Jianing did not let Ye Chu become a mere passerby, so Wu Jianing was generally satisfied.

Ye Chu quietly complained to Gu Wenhua, "I thought it was a locked-room crime. With the doors and windows wide open, it feels like the murderer is crawling all over the place."

Gu Wenhua looked out the window and said, "The murderer wouldn't just crawl around randomly. Have you forgotten? It's snowing outside. The murderer would leave footprints and crawling marks in the snow."

His words made everyone unable to suppress their laughter again.

"Hey! Even if you're a rich young master, you can't not pay!"

"Hey! Did you hear me?"

Are you deaf or mute?

The footsteps of the newcomers were quite chaotic, indicating there was more than one person. Their footsteps thumped hurriedly on the wooden floor. A few seconds later, a young, handsome face appeared before them.

Zhuang Sheng, wearing a heavy coat and with two prop snowflakes hanging on her body, stepped into the room. She first glanced at the guests standing there, and then her gaze fell on the corpse on the ground.

"Father!"

Zhuang Sheng cried out in a shrill voice.
