Chapter 670: Knowing the Future is Worth Following - The Ying Shi Award Ceremony has ended.
"The Forest Without Flowers" went home with two awards: Best Director and Best Actress. "The Blue Wall" took home the Best Picture award, while "The Forest Without Flowers" narrowly missed out.
Luo Yao became famous overnight. At the celebration party after the awards ceremony, many filmmakers swarmed around him like wasps smelling honey.
Shang Yechu was in a similar situation, with interviews and questions that left her feeling dizzy and confused.
The most important thing, of course, was to thank Ban Qingwen. Under everyone's watchful eyes, Shang Yechu couldn't be too overbearing, only telling Ban Qingwen that he would definitely treat her to a meal after returning home. He added that he would be even more grateful if they could collaborate.
Ban Qingwen appeared indifferent and serious, yet she didn't refuse Shang Yechu's invitation to collaborate. This was a good sign.
To Shang Yechu's surprise, Ban Qingwen actually reminded her to thank the South Korean director Park Se-jin. She knew what this meant—Park Se-jin had helped in the award bidding process.
But she didn't have much of a relationship with Park Se-jin, did she? When Qingping Entertainment was lobbying the judging panel, they simply ruled out Park Se-jin. Because Park Se-jin is very mean and has plenty of money; it might backfire.
Ban Qingwen would never lie to her. Shang Yechu thanked Ban Qingwen, then went to thank Park Se-jin and clinked glasses with him.
When speaking with Park Se-jin, Shang Yechu was quite careful to control her posture and demeanor. She kept her back straight, her smile polite and understated. Even when clinking glasses, the rim of her glass was level with the rim of Park Se-jin's.
It sounds crazy, but there's no other way. These kinds of parties are crowded and noisy; Shang Yechu doesn't want to be photographed and have her pictures posted on social media spreading rumors like "Yechu was groveling and fawning over a Korean director." Those unscrupulous marketing accounts are capable of anything.
Park Se-jin's attitude was surprisingly good. He had a fairly pleasant conversation with Shang Ye-chu.
Two years ago, Shang Yechu was ashamed of her Chinese-accented English and didn't dare to talk to people. Today, although her accent hasn't changed, she can now communicate smoothly and confidently with directors and artists from various countries.
The continuous rain obscures the passing of spring; only when the sun shines do we realize the depth of summer. Perhaps what makes her feel inferior is not her accent or her signature work, but rather the immature version of herself she once was.
After dealing with the endless stream of media and film figures, Shang Yechu was drenched in sweat. This red suit was a showstopper on the red carpet, providing warmth and protection from the wind. But in the cozy banquet hall, the suit was suffering.
As Shang Yechu moved to a less crowded area, she took out her phone.
The message board was filled with heartfelt blessings from relatives and friends.
Ji the Skinflint: [You're dead meat. Wait until your next life to untie that Yang guy!]
Pork belly with sauerkraut: [Should we remove your role from "Happy Street Chronicles 2"? You're an award-winning actress now, and I feel like my script is a bit shabby, not good enough for you QAQ]
Grandma: [News Link] Marital infidelity is not a "moment of confusion," it's gambling with the whole family on a losing proposition...
Su Ge (Debt Collector): [[Picture][Picture] A gift I prepared for you for the Ying Shi Award! There's also a little surprise I prepared myself in the bag's hidden compartment~]
Gu Wenhua: [Congratulations]
Teacher Zheng: [Well done. Be more mindful of your behavior next time.]
Sheng Wenzhi: [I thought you nominated "Happy Street," turns out it's a different film. I knew a film like "Happy Street" couldn't possibly be nominated for any film festival.]
How come Sheng Wenzhi is still alive?
The diverse range of messages both amused and touched Shang Yechu. While replying to everyone except Sheng Wen, she searched for Luo Yao and Yang Huanyi in the room.
The crowd was dense, making it difficult to find anyone. Shang Yechu searched for a long time before finally spotting Luo Yao.
"Camel." Shang Yechu stepped forward. "So you were here."
Luo Yao was also sweltering in the heat, and his carefully styled hair was now a bit messy.
Shang Yechu glanced around Luo Yao but didn't see the figure in the black dress.
She knew Yang Huanyi was upset. Therefore, she didn't dare take the trophy to Yang Huanyi and upset her further. Instead, she handed the trophy to her assistant before returning to the banquet hall. Unexpectedly, Yang Huanyi disappeared in just a short while.
Shang Yechu had assumed that Yang Huanyi had gone out to socialize with Luo Yao, but to her surprise, Luo Yao was all alone!
“Ye Zi,” Luo Yao complained, “when will this dinner party end? People are getting so hot they’re practically bald from the heat.”
"There's still a long way to go." Shang Yechu coughed, intending to change the subject, but then remembered that Luo Yao wasn't an outsider, so she asked directly, "Where...where is Sister Yang?"
As soon as the question came out, Luo Yao was even more surprised than her: "She didn't follow you? I turned around and she was gone. I thought she went with you to the interactive activities."
Shang Yechu was startled and, without thinking of anything else, took out her phone, clicked on "Assistant Yang's" WeChat nickname, and was about to ask a question when she stopped.
"Camel, use your WeChat to ask," Shang Yechu looked at Luo Yao, "Ask her where she went?"
At this crucial moment, Luo Yao stopped arguing and bombarded Yang Huanyi with several messages on WeChat. A long time passed, but there was no response.
Shang Yechu's entire back was soaked with sweat. Just as she was about to make a phone call, Luo Yao stopped her and said, "Wait, let me ask Cao Shi first."
Shang Yechu paused.
Luo Yao chuckled dryly, "He's a sponsor of the movie."
Shang Yechu swallowed hard and said calmly, "I know. But would asking him even help?"
"Ask first." Luo Yao pulled Shang Yechu to a less crowded part of the banquet hall and dialed Cao Shi's number.
Surprisingly, Cao Shi answered the phone quite quickly. Luo Yao glanced at Shang Yechu, without turning on speakerphone, and said, "President Cao, after the Ying Shi Awards ceremony, Sister Yang vanished without a trace. Did she tell you where she went?"
Shang Yechu couldn't hear Cao Shi's voice very clearly. She could only see Luo Yao slightly startled.
Luo Yao said "Oh" twice and hung up the phone.
“Um, Ye Zi,” Luo Yao said cautiously, “Sister Yang, she…”
Seeing her like this, Shang Ye had a pretty good idea of what was going on: "Is she alright?"
Luo Yao glanced at Shang Yechu a few times and slowly said, "Well, don't worry. Sister Yang just... just went home after the awards ceremony."
