Chapter 9: Domestic Strife Drama (1/2)

Time flies. In the blink of an eye, two months have passed since Shang Yechu was reborn.

Today we're filming a historical romance drama about family feuds.

The combination of "ancient costume drama" and "domestic intrigue" often implies a bad show. This drama is called "Deep Mansion Moonlight," and it tells the love story between a young lady from afar who goes to live with a noble family and the eldest son of the family.

The lead actors in this drama are rising star Jiang Zhiyuan and third-tier actress Chu Hanyue. The director is a female director who frequently directs period dramas, named Jiang Lei.

Jiang Zhiyuan and Chu Hanyue played supporting roles in the previous fantasy drama. The drama had a large production value, but the ratings were a complete flop. The leads' efforts were wasted, while the second male and female leads' on-screen couple gained some popularity.

At that time, the internet had not yet seen the rise of large-scale CP (couple pairing) marketing. However, some producers still seized the opportunity and brought the two together for a second collaboration.

For the two actors who had just risen to fame, this was undoubtedly a golden opportunity. So, without much hesitation, they immediately joined the cast of this low-budget historical drama.

Second-tier and third-tier films, good or bad, have nothing to do with Shang Yechu. She was lucky today and was assigned a small menial job.

The plot goes like this: the female protagonist has just entered the mansion when she is betrayed by her personal maid and framed by the first wife for stealing the old lady's bird's nest and reselling it to an outside pharmacy.

In order to prove her innocence, the female protagonist invited the pharmacy owner to confront her in court.

The pharmacy owner, bribed by the first wife, insisted that the female lead had sold him the bird's nest at a low price. The female lead was speechless, unable to defend herself. Just then, the male lead appeared.

The male protagonist asked the shop owner several pointed questions in the lobby. The shop owner's answers were full of loopholes, finally exposing his flaws and clearing the female protagonist's name.

Shang Yechu plays a lowly servant in the outer courtyard. His only role is to dig in the dirt, take out some gold and silver buried under the tree, carry it into the main room, and say, "Madam, we found these under the tree."

With just this one line, it's already one of the more significant roles Shang Yechu has played in her minor roles.

This role was only given to Shang Yechu because she was always clever and hardworking on set, and there just happened to be a shortage of male extras.

Shang Yechu diligently completed her role, portraying a nervous and uneasy servant who was accidentally caught up in the power struggle between his masters with remarkable depth.

After presenting the gold and silver, Shang Yechu stepped aside, minimizing his presence, and quietly watched the grand spectacle unfolding in the main hall.

[The female lead, played by Chu Hanyue, had red eyes but a stubborn expression: "Ancestor! I didn't do it!"]

“Chu family girl,” the First Madam said sarcastically, “if everything could be settled simply by saying ‘you didn’t do it’ and ‘I didn’t do it,’ then what would be the point of having an official government?”

"You!" Chu Hanyue exclaimed angrily, "Aunt, this is clearly a malicious frame-up!"

Upon hearing this, the pharmacy owner immediately became displeased: "Miss Chu! Are you saying that my Tianji Pharmacy is using its decades-old reputation to harm you?"

Chu Hanyue hurriedly said, "I didn't mean that! It's just that, if someone did something to make Manager Tian mistakenly think that I was the one who delivered the bird's nest, who knows..."

The plot was incredibly boring. Although Shang Yechu was watching attentively, he was actually quite speechless.

A powerful noble family, arguing and bickering over a few ounces of bird's nest, causing chaos throughout the entire household and even leading to a confrontation in court—this plot is truly...

Director Jiang Lei also shook her head.

Amidst the commotion, the female protagonist was at a loss, her eyes red-rimmed, looking utterly pitiful.

Chu Hanyue has a fresh and delicate appearance, and when her eyes redden, it instantly evokes feelings of pity and tenderness.

This is how she acted as a supporting actress in her previous drama.

The supporting actress in the previous drama was this kind of fresh and innocent fairy, with a touch of innocent allure that won over the audience's hearts.

But while a supporting actress can act like that, the lead actress absolutely cannot.

Audiences have much higher expectations of the female lead because she is the focal point of the drama and bears the brunt of the scrutiny.

As the female lead in a family drama, Chu Hanyue's performance seems far too weak and incompetent.

Director Jiang Lei shook her head and didn't call "cut".
