Chapter 97, Episode 4 (1/2)

Sun Xiaoxiao's whole family sat in front of the TV, counting down the seconds until the commercials ended so they could watch the fourth episode of "Yun Qing Ji" as soon as it was available.

Sun Xiaoxiao's parents originally planned to watch "Qingyun Biography", but Sun Xiaoxiao learned from Ye Chu's Weibo super topic that Ye Chu would also be appearing in tonight's "Yun Qing Ji"!

Upon hearing the news, Sun Xiaoxiao was overjoyed and begged her parents to change the channel and watch "Yun Qing Ji" instead.

Because of her excellent final exam results, Sun Xiaoxiao barely had the right to negotiate with her parents. In the end, both sides compromised: Xiaoxiao's father and mother would watch the third episode of "Qingyun Biography" on TV first, and then Sun Xiaoxiao would watch the fourth episode of "Yunqing Ji" on TV.

Mom and Dad really enjoy watching "The Legend of Qingyun". When they handed the remote control to Sun Xiaoxiao, they grumbled and seemed a little reluctant.

Sun Xiaoxiao hadn't watched the first three episodes of "Yun Qing Ji," but she heard from the girls in the supertopic that "Yun Qing Ji" is an episodic drama, so even if you don't watch the first few episodes, it won't affect your understanding of the plot. For Ye Chu's sake, Sun Xiaoxiao decided to give it a try.

The opening theme of "Yun Qing Ji" is quite different from that of ordinary period dramas; it is a light and cheerful instrumental piece. The flashing images interspersed in the opening are not of characters, but of various scenery, such as mirrors, gourds, pear blossoms, and white cranes.

After a brief intro, the main feature begins, first revealing a luxurious mansion with the three large characters "Pingzhao Mansion" on its plaque. The scene then shifts to inside the mansion, where a group of people are drinking and making merry.

Amidst the flowing water and the sounds of singing and dancing, the subtitles thoughtfully provided a note: this group of people were none other than the young noble talents of Pingkang City, led by the imperial son-in-law, He Ji.

The woman swayed her hips at the banquet, the wine in her jade bowl gleaming with an amber-like luster. The camera gradually zoomed out to mid-air, where a bird with black tail feathers perched on a newly sprouted willow branch in early spring, letting out a rough, hoarse cry.

Three large, antique-style characters appeared in the center of the image:

The Tale of the Crows.

"This opening is pretty good," Sun Xiaoxiao thought to herself. Then, she noticed a line of small print at the bottom of the screen:

Screenwriters for this episode: Jing Fengnian, Zheng Bohan

Two screenwriters for one episode of a TV series? Won't it turn into a two-headed monster?

Sun Xiaoxiao mentally complained.

Just then, Mom, who had been absentmindedly scrolling through her phone, suddenly exclaimed, "Old Sun, this TV series was written by Jing Fengnian!"

"Huh?" Xiaoxiao's dad, who was also playing on his phone, looked up with an expression that looked like he'd just eaten milk mixed with stinky tofu. "Oh! It really is! Xiaoxiao, change the channel!"

Sun Xiaoxiao exploded, "Hey! You promised me! You can't go back on your word!"

Xiaoxiao's father's features scrunched up: "Jing Fengnian only writes that wailing and howling stuff! Your mother cried her eyes out watching his movies back then—don't watch this mournful stuff during the New Year..."

"Don't listen to him," Xiaoxiao's mother said excitedly. "Just watch this, Mom will watch it with you."

Sun Xiaoxiao stuck out her tongue, a bad feeling creeping into her heart. Was Ye Chu going to act in some melodramatic romance film? She didn't really like that kind of thing…

Twenty minutes later.

"Oh dear! What a good-for-nothing!" Dad yelled angrily. "Why didn't she tell the prince consort the truth? I knew watching Jing Fengnian's shows would drive people crazy! Change the channel!"

“No,” Xiaoxiao’s mother said, her eyes glued to the screen. “I’m getting impatient watching it.”

Sun Xiaoxiao was also staring intently at the screen, because so far, the character of Princess Pingzhao was still only heard but not seen. Whenever Princess Pingzhao appeared on screen, the camera would intentionally pan down, only showing her thin hands, slender body, and noble and leisurely posture... but completely obscuring her face, not revealing a single detail.

Sun Xiaoxiao was suspended for almost half an episode, without even seeing Ye Chu's pointed chin.
