Chapter 107 Moving into the Research Institute

Chapter 107 Moving into the Research Institute

Team Zero returned to base in the middle of the night.

The armored vehicle entered the inner city through a special mission passage and stopped at the entrance of the Biological Research Institute.

Upon receiving the news, Dean Fu got out of bed in the middle of the night and rushed to the research institute.

Qi Ling obeyed Captain Xie's words and stood obediently in the hall.

He was emanating black smoke, and black slime dripped from his body onto the floor, while wisps of corrosive white smoke rose from his body, making an exceptionally grating sound.

Dean Fu was so shocked that he almost dropped the thermos he was holding.

"What...what's going on?"

Xie Tu shook his head: "I don't know."

Hearing their conversation, Qi Ling felt like a monkey in a zoo, the kind that doesn't charge admission, allowing people to observe and scrutinize it.

There were very few people at the biological research institute late at night. Apart from four or five staff members on duty, there were only a few people from Team Zero.

Yun Zhao wanted to try and see if he could control the dark substance on his body.

She gently tugged at Xie Tu's arm and whispered a few words to him.

Xie Tu understood, "Let's go to the lab."

Since Qi Ling learned that his younger sister might have descendants, he now obeys Xie Tu's every word and does whatever he is told.

He obediently followed Dean Fu, who was leading the way, to a laboratory.

The laboratory was empty, with corrosion-resistant metal walls on all four sides. Qi Ling, covered in black smoke, stood in the middle of the room.

The door was not closed.

Yun Zhao stood at the door, his fingertips twitching slightly, and a green fluorescent light flashed, quickly entering his body.

Qi Ling's body trembled violently, his facial features contorted as if he were enduring immense pain.

Each strand of spiritual energy that entered his body caused a violent tremor in his body.

Those dark substances seemed to be tightly connected to his skin, seeping into his bone marrow. Each peeling felt like tearing his skin apart, revealing unprecedented pain.

The black aura is visibly decreasing...

With Yun Zhao's help, the dark matter on Qi Ling's body was clearly being suppressed and was no longer leaking out.

"Does it really work?" The rabbit took a breath.

Yun Zhao shook his head. "He has already merged with the dark matter. We can only suppress it temporarily. We don't know how long it will last."

Consuming the dark matter is almost tantamount to killing him.

The only thing they could do was use mental threads to create a barrier to prevent the slime from seeping out and corroding the surrounding buildings.

The rest will be handed over to the research institute for inspection.

"You stay at the research institute for now."

Xie Tu said to Qi Ling, "Don't worry, there won't be any inhuman torture. It's just a routine check-up. If anything happens, have the researchers here call us."

Qi Ling nodded weakly in response.

Xie Tu chatted with Dean Fu for a few more minutes before leading his team out of the research institute.

It was late at night, and the inner city was quiet.

The lights were still on in many of the offices of the several research institutes that are connected in this area.

"Go back and rest first. We can talk about it tomorrow."

The mission did not go smoothly. Too much contact with the mutants affected the sentinels, including Xie Tu, to varying degrees.

Although Xie Tu appeared unharmed, he still clearly remembered the way Major General Qin fell.

That look of finally being free, yet still unable to let go of the eerie, dark apocalypse until death...

Xie Tu composed himself, glanced at his watch, and gestured for Yun Zhao to get in the car. "I'll take you home."

Yun Zhao assumed he was going back to his residence outside the city and was just giving her a ride, so she waved goodbye to her teammates and climbed into the passenger seat.

The car soon arrived at No. 128, East Third Street.

Before getting out of the car, Yun Zhao suddenly remembered something and turned to look at him, "Let's build a mental barrier now."

At least he can get a good night's sleep tonight.

Before Xie Tu could speak...

She suddenly leaned closer, so close that they could hear each other breathing.

Xie Tu felt a warm, soft touch on his forehead.

Inside the enclosed car, the dim lighting made the two figures appear both clear and indistinct.

A faint fragrance quietly filled the air; it was her unique scent.

Xie Tu's mind began to waver. He was powerless to resist and allowed the bluish-green fluorescence to enter his body, forming a transparent barrier on his mental core.

Yun Zhao, having practiced a few times before, quickly set up the barrier, yawned as he got out of the car, saying, "Captain, get some rest."

I forgot to build a mental barrier for the other team members.

I'll have to come tomorrow.

After saying hello, Yun Zhao went up the stone steps and returned to her home, leaving Xie Tu standing there silently for a long time.

Yun Zhao entered the residential area only to find that the iron gate at the bottom of the building was locked, and she couldn't get in.

She had no choice but to run to Cheng Dongshu's window and knock on it to signal them to open the door.

When Cheng Dongshu saw that it was Yun Zhao returning, he quickly sat up and went out to open the door for her.

"Where have you been? You've been gone for days. Why are you only coming back in the middle of the night?" As soon as the door opened, Cheng Dongshu kept asking questions.

The townspeople all assumed that Yun Zhao worked in the inner city.

The guides enjoy the highest level of welfare and are protected by the base; almost all of them work in the evacuation room.

Yun Zhao mumbled, "I didn't go anywhere. I'm back now. Let's talk about it tomorrow."

After she finished speaking, she waved and walked straight toward the elevator.

Helpless, Cheng Dongshu watched her enter the elevator before turning around, closing the unit door, and going back to his room to continue sleeping.

Yun Zhao took the elevator back to the 12th floor.

Opening the door to my home, I saw her cozy living room, and a warm feeling quietly welled up in my heart.

The house was just as she left it: a blue fabric sofa with a matching rug, a white coffee table, and a huge storage cabinet filled with all kinds of snacks against the wall in the dining area.

The floor was very clean, which meant that Aunt Zhao often came over to help her clean when she wasn't home.

Upon entering the house.

The little bluebird couldn't wait to fly to its perch, hopping between each level of the wooden house and the tree hole.

It clearly misses its bird stand.

Yun Zhao ignored it.

I opened the room door, took out my pajamas, and went into the bathroom to wash up.

She threw her combat uniform into the laundry basket, took a nice shower, and then went to check on the kitchen on her way out.

The newly bought refrigerator stood there. When opened, it was filled with all kinds of drinks, snacks, side dishes, and two bunches of fresh vegetables, which Aunt Zhao must have bought and put in the refrigerator.

Yun Zhao was tempted by the food, but remembering that it was too late, he could only regretfully close the door and go to sleep.

The rest of the supply trucks should have returned by now.

I need to go check it out tomorrow.

*

After Xie Tu dropped Yun Zhao off at home, he didn't go back. Instead, he drove back to the inner city to look up information about the researcher surnamed Qi.

After leaving the contaminated area, he contacted Minister Duan.

There have been new developments in the Zhang Dehui case.

The person who accompanied them slipped up after being detained for several days and, after being tortured, confessed to what had happened.

Zhang Dehui did not go to Contaminated Zone 28 on his own; rather, he was being chased and forced into it.

The person chasing him was none other than the person who had come with him to the Dawn Base to participate in the celebration activities.

The conflict arose because of some private interests.

The laws of the wasteland world are not perfect.

The Dawn Base can only manage its own small territory. As for external affairs, as long as they do not involve its own base, it generally will not interfere.

Those people never imagined that Zhang Dehui would survive the contaminated area and even undergo a mutation at the Dawn Base, triggering a series of subsequent events.

Although they were outsiders, they disrupted the base's celebrations and disturbed the base's order.

They must accept the sanctions.
