Chapter 83, Shelter No. 28
The armored vehicle continued to move forward.
The tall buildings on both sides of the street stood silently, their once brightly lit windows now dark and empty, like hollow eyes staring at them.
No one on the bus spoke.
Yun Zhao looked out through the observation window.
The city was not only deserted, but also lacked supplies; the shops along the way had already been looted.
The empty city looked very eerie.
The peregrine falcon in the air made a discovery.
Duan Xi straightened up slightly: "Captain, the shelter gate is just ahead."
Upon hearing this, Song Liang drove forward in the direction the peregrine falcon was leading.
The roads on both sides were wide and dark, seemingly endless. There were no people or cars, only endless silence.
The entrance to the shelter is hidden in an ecological park.
After the armored vehicle drove in, everyone saw a square steel building standing behind a restaurant building in the park.
The main body of the door is made up of huge, thick metal plates, each plate fitting together perfectly. A row of machine guns is mounted on the platform overhead, their dark muzzles pointed outwards.
Xie Tu looked around, releasing all his senses.
The metal gate leads deep underground, and there seems to be more than one gate inside; slight noises can be heard coming from within.
There are living creatures, but their forms are uncertain.
Xie Tu spoke up: "Duan Xi."
"Received!" Duan Xi understood.
His peregrine falcon swayed from side to side on the front of the car, hopped forward two steps, flapped its wings and flew toward the door, its body gradually becoming transparent as it passed straight through the metal door.
"There are three gates inside. Sixteen mutant soldiers were found inside the first two gates."
Duan Xi said, "The staircase inside the door leads down to the underground, preventing the spiritual entity from going any further. There seem to be voices underground?"
Clearly, the captain's initial assessment was correct.
The timeline within Zone 28 is at a point in the Dark Ages.
Because the distance was too far, just in case, they dared not let the spirit enter alone.
As he spoke, Duan Xi's expression became somewhat strange. "There are three gates. The people inside the first two gates have already become deformed, but everything seems to be normal deep underground."
He heard human voices.
It's strange; the two doors seem to separate two different worlds.
Are the timelines inside and outside the door different?
Is it related to the will-o'-the-wisps that appeared on their foreheads?
Xie Tu remained silent, assessing the danger inside.
Song Liang had already parked the car by the pavilion and turned to ask, "Captain, shall we go in now?"
moment.
Xie Tu withdrew his senses. "Okay, everyone check your equipment and go inside to get the keys."
How do we get in?
Tao Haohao slung his heavy weapon over his shoulder, prepared to get out of the car, and turned back to say, "That door looks very sturdy; it can only be opened from the inside. Wouldn't a direct assault alert the enemy?"
The rabbit slapped him, "Have you forgotten that Sister Yun Zhao is here?"
The green fluorescence can seep into the metal door; it can condense spiritual threads inside to help open the door.
Yun Zhao was mentioned.
She was sitting quietly in her seat, her eyes clear, looking up at everyone's foreheads.
They seem to be... studying the invisible will-o'-the-wisps on their foreheads?
Originally, no one had given it much thought.
But being stared at like that by her made me feel inexplicably uneasy.
Tao Haohao subconsciously touched his forehead again and rubbed it hard, as if trying to rub away the ghost fire.
Xie Tu remained unaffected, turning his head to look at her. "Why don't you give it a try?"
Upon hearing this, Yun Zhao's gaze unconsciously fell on his forehead again.
There, leaping golden flames are burning.
She nodded slightly. "Okay."
The little bluebird received the host's consciousness, glanced at everyone with disdain, and flapped its wings to fly towards the metal gate.
The figure gradually became transparent, passed straight through the metal gate, and disappeared outside.
There were no lights inside; the deep passageway was pitch black, and dark matter drifted everywhere.
The little bluebird flapped its wings, and a green fluorescent light flashed.
Wisps of green light illuminated the surroundings.
Several heavily armed mutant soldiers stood inside the door, motionless like statues, black slime dripping from their bodies, making a sizzling, corrosive sound.
You can vaguely see wriggling shadows stirring around.
—Those are the sharp mouthparts of a mutant species.
They do not respond to spiritual entities.
The little bluebird saw the gate, which was completely enveloped by dark matter and could no longer be recognized.
Countless strands of spiritual energy covered it, and the valve began to turn.
Upon hearing the creaking sound of the valve turning, the members of Team Zero, armed with weapons, swiftly disembarked from the vehicle and prepared themselves on either side of the shelter's entrance.
Yun Zhao was a little slower and fell behind.
A guide must always be by their side.
Xie Tu stood by the car waiting for her. When he saw her get out, he naturally reached out to help her, and then closed the car door behind her.
Xie Tu said, "Don't rush in later. First, check if those mutants have flames on their foreheads and see if the mental threads are effective."
“Okay.” Yun Zhao nodded.
Xie Tu didn't say it, but she also planned to do it.
The will-o'-the-wisp might be related to Zhang Dehui's mutation, but she couldn't understand what the white and golden flames represented.
Based on rank?
Because Xie Tu is an S-class Sentinel, his flames are different from others; they are golden.
But why didn't she?
Is it that only she can see it, or only the guide can see it...?
The distinction between these is important.
The two had arrived at the door. As the door valve turned, gaps appeared in the spliced metal plates, revealing the scene inside.
The dimly lit passageway was illuminated by scattered green fluorescent lights, making the scene even more eerie.
The four walls were made of cold metal, covered with marks left by black slime corrosion.
Eight mutant soldiers stood motionless against the wall, guns in hand, showing no reaction.
"Why isn't there any response?" Duan Xi muttered to himself.
Xie Tu turned his head when he heard the muttering. The dark eyes looked at him as if he were looking at a mentally disabled person. "Because of the mental barrier, all external senses are blocked."
Her barriers are of two kinds.
One is a mental barrier that shields the senses; the other, while called a barrier, is more like a protective enclosure.
From the moment they entered, an invisible barrier enveloped them, isolating them from the dark matter outside.
The mutants cannot sense them, so they naturally do not attack.
"Oh, I almost forgot," Duan Xi quickly added.
The crack in the door widened, revealing what was inside.
Yun Zhao looked up at the foreheads of the mutants; there was nothing there except black slime.
She shook her head at Xie Tu, slightly raised her hand, and attempted to use an emotional resonance attack on the mutant.
The result was as expected.
It's no longer working.
The eight mutant soldiers remained unresponsive.
The base's investigation was correct; this was indeed the contaminated area that Zhang Dehui had entered.
These monsters seem to have no emotions.
Xie Tu's gaze deepened, as if he were deep in thought.
When the door opened, the little bluebird flew back and landed on Yun Zhao's head, giving everyone a disdainful look.
[A bunch of useless idiots! They can't even open the door.]
rabbit:"……"
The door suddenly slammed shut, and the metal plate retracted into the wall with a dull, grating sound.
The heavy sound of the door opening startled the mutant, which roared and searched for its enemy, its sharp mandibles rapidly extending and retracting within the passageway.
The rabbit was prepared; with a silenced sniper rifle, it instantly headshot the two mutants that charged out first.
The eight monsters were quickly killed.
Xie Tu gave a cold salute and led his team into Shelter No. 28.
