The cold, sharp light came too fast; the woman hadn't even realized what it was before a pair of even more dazzling sky-blue eyes appeared before her, hidden behind the cold glint.
She was mesmerized by the fleeting light and remained stunned by the unfamiliar sight until she successfully left the building.
The slender girl was named Gu Li, but the woman ignored the instant feeling of familiarity.
She quickly smiled and said, "What a sweet name! I'm Sasha. Thank you for saving me. Is there anything I can help you with?"
Sasha, like the other civilians who were rescued, should have felt grateful to the heroes and retreated to a safe place.
Try not to cause them any trouble in their subsequent work.
When she met those eyes, Sasha's mouth seemed to have its own thoughts; what should have been farewell words instantly turned into a practiced self-recommendation.
As a fairly successful adult, Sasha has many ways to make her past experiences sound amazing, until the HR is so confused that they keep her on the job.
Under the gaze of Gu Li, who was half a head shorter than her, she could only awkwardly move her lips and tongue: "Um, I have nearly twenty years of experience in special effects photography. I bet I'm definitely one of the best in the Upper Sixth District. By the way, I'm a pretty good cook."
After saying that, Sasha wanted to slap herself in the face. What was she even saying? These things were of no help whatsoever in this dangerous place!
As for rounding up or down twelve years of work experience, Sasha closed her eyes; this must be some damn, deeply ingrained resume beautification technique.
Relax, Sasha, it's not a big deal. The joke's over, and she should leave and seek refuge on her own.
"This is absolutely perfect!"
"Sorry, I was just joking... What?!"
Sasha stared wide-eyed at the excited Gu Li for a moment, and finally realized from her sincere expression that Gu Li was actually going to take her on this mission.
Sasha swallowed hard. At that moment, she felt like a fresh graduate who had gotten the job by spouting nonsense on her resume.
Damn it, she wasn't talking nonsense at all.
Gu Li's declaration did not cause much of a stir online, since the lighting in Sasha's live stream room was too dim, and most people were more focused on the scenes of those in danger.
However, the video of Gu Li making threatening remarks in front of the camera still circulated in a small circle.
They recognized Gu Li immediately, as well as the 11th Legion insignia on her chest.
In a small, hastily formed group, a group of people were making a ruckus. They were a small group that had spontaneously formed to find the locations of people in danger in various live-streaming rooms and then send the information out so that rescuers could see it.
They had already begun their operation when Grantham was first targeted, but the results were not very noticeable because the other side acted too quickly.
Once they found the exact location and sent it out, the rescuers' response was not timely enough, and the time wasted on the road represented lives about to end.
Someone shared this video in a group chat, along with a self-deprecating comment.
"Another fool. Continuing like this will only lead to nothing."
[I think the first "idiot" refers to us?]
[She's a good girl, but this is too dangerous. The official rescue teams are fully equipped and armed; she could lose her life because of her impulsiveness!]
[Does anyone know where she is now? Stop her!]
[...I guess none of you know who she is, which is why you said that. I think we've encountered something good.]
[What nonsense are you talking about? Something feels wrong, so go and rest right away.]
[I know what he's talking about. That's the little guy who's become famous on the StarNet lately, supposedly the leader of the Alien City. Watch the video for his mobility. By the way, our plan might actually come to fruition under her control.]
[What nonsense are you talking about...? Are you kidding me? Jumping from that height?!]
[This is a video sent back from District 7 today.]
Everyone fell silent as they watched the video of the tiny black dot leaping out of the massive spaceship, effortlessly dispatching three winged creatures in mid-air, and landing with pinpoint accuracy.
[I'm already looking, guys, time to get serious!]
[If you ask me, all the security cameras near the tallest building have been destroyed; I suspect she was the one who did it.]
[This is bad. We adults, stuck in the safe zone, are completely helpless without Grantham's stream.]
[Shut up. ]
I don't want to hear jokes right now.
A live stream room appeared silently on the StarNet page, its name changing from blank to "[You little bastards! The master is here!]", before fading into a noisy silence.
The livestream room that was almost blocked by the internet cleanup campaign has been renamed "glsm, your dad's here."
Exhausted, Sasha stopped Gu Li's eager hand and resolutely eliminated more titles filled with discordant words.
This wasn't the kind of help she had imagined.
The two were on the top floor of the building, in an open-air restaurant. Sasha first recharged Gu Li at her insistence.
In reality, they were just using the restaurant's existing ingredients to cook for her, filling the seemingly bottomless stomach of this temporary boss.
When the restaurant's vintage ingredients were almost gone, Gu Li finally stopped, rubbing her stomach, which was full from eating for the first time in this world.
The happiness index has risen sharply.
She straightened up and stretched her body under Sasha's questioning gaze: "Alright, energy replenished, let's get down to business."
