Gu Lishou was writing and drawing on the open register, while his other hand was forced to stay on He Wei's head. His wings, which he was becoming more and more adept at using, were serving as a table under the register.
They even multitasked, openly listening to them speak.
He Wei couldn't help but turn around and glare at her, but when her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of a deep, ominous blackness, she turned back with lightning speed.
She now felt that these two oddballs were somewhat comprehensible, so she was no longer so cautious in her speech.
"Where can you find a good deal that allows you to gain recognition, make money, and improve your skills? Of course I'll do it."
Gu Li paused, suddenly remembering the strength he had suddenly regained last night, and looked at He Wei, who was cowering beside him: "Enhance your ability reserves?"
Finally, they arrived at her domain. He Wei squatted down beside her legs and nodded reservedly: "Although the Child of Light can generate starlight on his own, as his fame grows and people's feelings for him become stronger, his ability reserves will be accumulated little by little without him even realizing it."
"You don't know this, do you? Even the smallest people can pass on their strength to us, which is why we call that strength starlight."
Gu Li nodded thoughtfully, a plan gradually forming in his mind.
Eric handed the list to He Wei, glanced at the pensive Gu Li, used his cane to pick up the register and put it in his hoof, and directed the lower-level creatures to begin distributing "food" to the restless shadows outside the door.
Hearing the sticky, fishy smell emanating from outside the door, He Wei's pride faded, and she began to tremble again.
She heard Eric ask the girl with the weak genes, "Is there anything you want, Miss? We can do the shopping together."
He Wei was taken aback. Why was this powerful high-level being, capable of intimidating these mindless low-level creatures with mere pressure, being so polite to this strange girl with weak genes?
Her ingrained thinking led her to see the girl who saved her as a weakling, but she soon realized something was wrong.
No, not at all, those heavily polluted wings behind her; she was definitely a different species as well.
He Wei quietly looked up and glanced at Gu Li's overly pale face. Those exceptionally beautiful sky-blue pupils, which belonged to a human, were truly stunning.
Her hands, hanging by her sides, clenched quietly. As long as she didn't look at the strange wings behind Gu Li, staring at her didn't seem to contaminate her!
What on earth is this person?!
He Wei suddenly released her grip on Gu Li, her face changing drastically. Gu Li shook her head indifferently. She knew what Eric meant; if she wanted, they would find her an opportunity to be exposed.
This involves the connection between the alien city and the Federation, which could cause them trouble.
“I already have a plan, and I feel like having you all is enough.”
She was referring to the alien species in the city. The other two creatures in the room were stunned, seemingly still processing what Gu Li had said.
Gu Li waved her hand in front of Eric: "I've got an idea. If possible, could you get some ingredients? I'd like to cook for myself occasionally."
The nutritional supplement could fill her stomach, but its texture was a bland, viscous liquid with no taste. She could hypnotize herself into swallowing it, but that didn't mean she was willing to poison her taste buds every day.
Eric seemed somewhat surprised: "You're actually going to do it yourself?"
He seemed to have misunderstood something. For the first time, Gu Li showed an emotion other than calm and elegance. The sheep-hoofed man stepped forward and said, "The expenses for you were not much. It was just something I bought on the spur of the moment. Please don't feel pressured."
Gu Li calmly took a step back: "No, I just want to do it myself."
Even He Wei was shocked and took back her earlier guess, looking at her pitifully: "Since you saved me, I can give you all the high-grade nutritional supplements. You don't need to learn to cook like the lowest commoners."
Clam?
Gu Li tossed the bottle to Eric and turned her head away, saying, "I just think this stuff tastes awful."
The matter ended with Eric's increasingly loving gaze and He Wei's indignant defense. In the end, He Wei concluded: "You must have never tasted our most popular 'Bitter Sweetness' and 'Strawberry Kung Pao Chicken' to say such childish things."
Gu Li closed her eyes briefly: "Did your company find its R&D staff from your school cafeteria?"
How did you know?
Hearing He Wei's shocked expression, as if she were revealing a trade secret, Gu Li put on gloves and joined the dark mass of flesh and blood distribution, refusing to answer He Wei's questions.
Eric pulled a box from his stomach and walked toward the cargo ship: "Miss He Wei, you should go now. Before you do, please look me in the eye."
He Wei, who was following behind him, suddenly hummed in response. She looked over, her gaze lingering for a moment on Eric's terrifying head, before she boarded the ship as if nothing had happened.
Once the ship had left the harbor, Gu Li clapped his hands and walked over: "What did you do to her?"
Eric nodded slightly: "It's just a matter of asking Miss He Wei to keep our secret."
Gu Li said goodbye to Eric. Today, the black creatures with wings were indeed much more obedient. After finishing her work from 9 am to 12 pm, she walked briskly towards the church in the city.
She was going to ask Cecil for a favor and to exchange some things.
The church was unusually noisy today. From a street away, Gu Li could hear the shrill screams coming from there. Several sounds combined together made her ears feel worse than if she had seen a ghost.
She stopped in her tracks outside a house, turned her head to listen, and her pale face turned even paler. The most horrible wailing was actually coming from inside this house.
Thinking of the closed ward and the "No Entry" sign from yesterday, Gu Li turned around, stood in front of the door, and looked the old, dilapidated house up and down, with even the doorknob rotten and rusty.
She subtly curled her lips, her intense curiosity prompting her to place her hand on the doorknob.
How can an act of bravery be considered trespassing?
The rotten and rusty lock made a dull creaking sound as it turned, and patches of almost vermilion rust fell off continuously. With a click, the door opened.
A crack exuding an old, worn smell peeked out from inside the room. The bottomless darkness and the increasingly clear screams from within instilled fear in one's heart.
Gu Li licked his dry lips, then enthusiastically pushed the door open, gripped the hilt of his sword at his waist, and stepped inside without hesitation.
The room was pitch black, and the windows seemed to be sealed shut. She pressed a switch that didn't respond, drew her sword, and cast a layer of holy light on it for illumination, which allowed her to see the layout inside.
The first floor was furnished much like her house, but there were no signs of life on it. Everything was covered with a thick layer of dust and cobwebs, and there was some dark red dried liquid on the ground.
Gu Li didn't look closely anymore and went straight to the second floor where the sound came from. The creaking stairs crumbled as she stepped on them, and she seemed to see claw marks belonging to some kind of animal, which stretched from the bottom of the stairs all the way into the bedroom.
The claw mark originated from the second-floor window.
Gu Li blinked, touched the goosebumps on her arm. Had that thing just been looking at her from above?
