Chapter 163 Infiltration

The next day, just as dawn broke, there was a loud knocking on the door.

The two men, who were sleeping fully clothed, exchanged a glance. The man in the suit, feigning displeasure, went to open the door: "Mr. Will, is there something you need so early?"

The tall, middle-aged man standing outside the door glanced into the room, smiled, revealing a set of uneven, yellow teeth: "I've come to deliver breakfast, and I'd like you two to come with me somewhere."

Lucy frowned secretly.

These people are so brazen; are they so certain they'll go?

As she pondered, the door to the room opposite creaked open, and a middle-aged woman leading a little girl came out, looking at Will with eager eyes.

"Lord Will, are we finally able to see the Mother Goddess today?"

Will was very arrogant, but he stiffly restrained his expression because he was in front of Lucy: "Yes, Mrs. Joel, you will be going with these two ladies after breakfast."

Mrs. Joel then looked at Lucy across from her and gave them a knowing smile.

She didn't say anything more, but when she saw the plate in Lucy's hand, she seemed to swallow her saliva somewhat subtly.

Will seemed to want to persuade the servant again when footsteps came from inside the room. The chestnut that had drunk the offering of the Virgin Mary yesterday came out, his face still showing signs of weariness.

Will's lips curled up almost imperceptibly as he repeated what he had just said to Lucy, concluding, "The Mother Goddess has mercy on every believer."

Gu Li's eyes twitched. Despite his unkempt, unshaven, and rugged appearance, he insisted on putting on an expression of devout longing.

It's so spicy it hurts my eyes.

She pretended not to notice Will's unusual behavior, and very readily agreed: "Okay."

Despite Lucy's worried gaze, Gu Li calmly finished the two-person portion of red sauce pasta and handed her the dry bread that Lucy thought had no toppings.

"This stuff is still no match for the contamination He Shiyi left me. I'll be fine. Just to be safe, Lucy, you should eat this first."

Lucy seemed to want to say something, but in the end she just smiled wryly and took the bread.

She was so much older than Gu Li, yet not only did she end up here, she was always being protected.

I am truly ashamed.

The door was knocked on again soon. Gu Li greeted Mrs. Joel with a smile, and Will walked ahead of the others as they left the tavern.

Gu Li glanced at the empty bar counter.

The street where the Red Rose Tavern was located was very close to the outskirts of the city. As the group walked through the alley, Will's tall figure blocked their view like a small mountain.

The walk took more than ten minutes. Mrs. Joel, holding the child, had beads of sweat on her forehead and could only keep up, panting, by gritting her teeth.

Gu Li met Lucy's gaze and nodded.

Lucy stepped forward and took the child with a gentle yet firm touch. Mrs. Joel's numb eyes flickered, and she reassured her, "It's nothing, just a small favor, madam. Please watch your step."

The two continued walking forward, while Mrs. Joel stood there in a daze for a long time before hurriedly catching up.

Her voice was barely audible: "Thank you."

Upon hearing this, Gu Li glanced again at the little girl being held in Lucy's arms.

The streets of the outer city were like a maze. The group walked for an unknown amount of time before the scenery suddenly opened up, revealing a square abruptly placed in a small building.

The square was incredibly luxurious, with countless gemstones inlaid on the ground, and the Roman columns around it had a warm, lustrous sheen; Gu Li guessed they were all carved from jade.

The most eye-catching thing is the huge statue in the center of the square, which is a woman with her eyes covered by a black cloth, wearing a white robe with the hem of the robe gently fluttering backward.

Beneath her feet was a white eagle soaring with outstretched wings, and on her enormous palm rested a dark brown honeycomb, surrounded by countless scarlet bees.

Gu Li squinted.

White Eagle and Red Bee?

That statue is probably the evil god named Nicholas.

Gu Li tilted her head back, trying to see more clearly, but a dark shadow blocked her view, and Will's fleshy face filled her vision.

"You are very lucky to have come on the occasion of the Mother Goddess's birthday. A festival will be held today."

"Alright, come with me."

Gu Li withdrew her gaze and followed Will into a villa behind the square, which was unexpectedly crowded with people.

When Gu Li and his group of five entered, everyone looked in their direction. They were all hidden under black robes, but their eyes seemed to have a tangible presence.

Mrs. Joel finally snapped out of her sleepwalking state, her face paling as she faced the group, and moved behind Lucy.

The next moment, her arm was grabbed by a hand like an iron clamp and she was pulled toward the back of the house.

Will nodded to the man, then looked at the struggling Mrs. Joel: "Please rest assured, Madam, the Mother Goddess will protect you."

Mrs. Joel paused in her struggle, her expression returning to a numb calm, and she repeated devoutly, "...Mother Goddess, you will protect me..."

Lucy stood expressionless behind Gu Li, blocking the prying eyes from behind.

Under Will's meaningful gaze, Gu Li suddenly spoke up with dissatisfaction, "Is she going to pray to the Mother Goddess? Why wasn't I the one to go first?!"

Her pale face was flushed with a blush of intoxication as she gazed at the statue outside the window.

“He’s just an ordinary citizen, but I am…”

Before she could finish speaking, Lucy whispered a reminder from behind, "Miss."

Gu Li pretended to suddenly come to her senses, but still looked at Will expectantly.

The number of gazes falling on her gradually decreased, and Will's gaze towards her relaxed a bit, carrying a mocking "I knew it" tone.

Gu Li twitched his ears and vaguely heard a man in black robes whisper, "He's just a fallen nobleman, yet he dares to put on airs here."

The other person chuckled and replied, "That's how noble ladies are. Don't you find them adorable? Of course, I would like her even more if she were more obedient and offered more wealth."

The man in black clicked his tongue in disdain upon hearing this: "You really are a piece of scum, Henry."

The other person paused, seemingly displeased: "Likewise, and don't call me by my name here, Cedric."

Gu Li walked past the two men expressionlessly. As she moved, the hem of her skirt fluttered slightly, brushing against the corner of Henry's robe, and a crumpled piece of paper was slipped into her palm.

She glanced at the crumpled paper while fixing her hair, then stuffed it into her hair bun.

In order to maintain her image as a noble lady who has left home, Gu Li changed into an even more expensive black dress today. It was also a long dress that reached the top of her shoes, but it flared out slightly from the waist.

It accentuated her slender waist and perfectly concealed the weapon hidden beneath her skirt. Her light golden hair was neatly pulled back and secured with a red ribbon, revealing her slender neck and attracting several discreet glances.

Henry watched her elegant figure gradually disappear into the distance, his expression subtle. Only he knew that her slender, fair wrists could easily twist the heads off this group of people.
