In the quiet room, a soft breathing sound mingled with increasingly rapid and heavy panting.
Gu Li stared at dozens of pairs of eyes hidden behind the curtains for a moment, then suddenly covered her throbbing forehead and tentatively called out, "Wang Li?"
Its body became abnormally soft and swollen, with countless eyeballs blooming all over its body, but its head strangely maintained its original shape.
The man's gloomy gaze fell on her again, and he seemed somewhat bewildered: "What are you doing here?"
After speaking, he covered his forehead in pain, but his pale, soft hand bent down behind his head, making it impossible for him to control it.
After a while, he gave up, and his expression gradually became clear.
"Gu... Guli?"
She sighed and looked at Wang Li jokingly, "I didn't expect you to still recognize me even after all this."
Wang Li quickly regained his usual composure and, dragging his bloated body, stepped out from behind the curtains.
Only then did Gu Li realize that his lower limbs had turned into a huge insect tail with countless segments. The sharp segments made a slight cracking sound as they moved across the ground.
"Which squad did you set off with? What happened to you after entering Bellamy?"
Their team had only been in Bellamy for less than two days, so why was Wang Li's condition changing so drastically?!
Wang Li clearly didn't want to recall what exactly happened, but he still gritted his teeth and slowly recounted, "We followed the plan to find a weak point and infiltrate."
"We were supposed to contact you as soon as we entered, but all the communication devices we temporarily hid were lost in the unusual battle. We later discovered that they had already discovered us!"
He scratched his head listlessly, his eyes somewhat vacant: "I came in with the Seventh Army squad. Our entire squad was wiped out except for me. That kid... was also killed while trying to save someone."
Gu Li stared at him, her pupils suddenly shrinking. That child... was one of the Children of Light who had volunteered to come...
She didn't say anything to the Seventh Army, who had promised to protect her. The last soldier in the Seventh Army was standing before her, and they had done everything they could.
Gu Li hated even more the thought that she had taken things too lightly before coming here.
Wang Li's voice was hoarse, with a strange hollow tone: "Aren't you angry with us? The Seventh Army squad didn't even make it past day one. That kid was crying before he died..."
Gu Li suddenly wanted to imitate Caroline and smoke a cigarette, hoping the smoke would briefly blur her vision so she wouldn't see the wetness and pain on Wang Li's face.
"What right do I have to blame you? Did you tell them even a single thing about the plan?"
Wang Li paused for a moment: "They are all dead. After I was brought back, I pretended to be crazy and didn't say a word."
Gu Li smiled knowingly and patted Wang Li on the shoulder.
"You are the real heroes, I will lead you out of here."
A light shone from her palm, and Wang Li suddenly felt an overwhelmingly gentle and comfortable power emanating from it, gradually repairing his rapidly deteriorating body.
Gu Li regretfully withdrew his hand.
"This is all I can do for now. We'll figure something out when we get back to the Federation. The 11th Army is a good place too. You can come over if you'd like."
Wang Li stretched his arms, which were much more flexible now: "Let's talk about these things later. I must avenge them here!"
Gu Li sighed. She saw Wang Li's determination and said no more. She went to the door and asked, "Are there many people like you in this villa?"
"Did you see...?"
Before she could finish speaking, Wang Li already understood what she meant.
He shook his head: "The second and third floors of this building are full of people like me, most of whom came from outside Bellamy. They keep us so that we can be sacrificed to Nicholas as nourishment on the night of the full moon."
This is quite different from the news about the chestnut harvest.
They have begun to accelerate the alienation of the entire city; at least the eastern part of the city has already completely fallen, and they are still using drugs to lure people in.
Such a large number of people would definitely still be of use to the mysterious church, which has completely aligned itself with other races.
Gu Li looked up; she needed to go there to make sure.
"I'll go up and take a look. Just pretend I wasn't here. I'll find a way to get any news from you."
Gu Li opened the door and slipped out.
Wang Li watched her disappearing figure with a complicated expression, a self-mocking look flashing in his eyes. The child he almost killed was now saving the world, while he was still waiting for someone else to rescue him.
Gu Li almost bumped into a group of people as soon as she stepped out. She quickly spun around and pressed herself against the corner of the wall, and could vaguely hear the man cursing.
"If I had known those people were having such wild ideas, I definitely wouldn't have supported them!"
The dozen or so bodyguards surrounding him looked extremely nervous. They didn't answer the man's question and escorted him straight to the top floor.
Gu Li's gaze swept over the man's shiny bald head and protruding belly. She seemed to have seen this man somewhere before. She followed the group all the way to the top floor.
The person who came out had a smile on their face: "What wind blew you here?"
Gu Li hid in the shadows, staring at the person for a long time. Her brows furrowed as she compared the person to the figure she had seen in the side building. The two were exactly the same, and in her eyes, there was no flaw at all!
