Chapter 207 The passenger shut up

The squad leader turned around with a tense expression, ignoring the noisy and fearful voices behind him, and slowly raised the gun in his hand.

As the team members' ammunition gradually ran out, they lowered their bodies and gripped the hilts of their swords.

When that group of mindless humanoid mutants appeared, despair filled the eyes of each of them; there were just too many of them.

The enemy outnumbered them far too many, and their own men had to protect dozens of survivors. The outcome of the battle seemed to be already clear to them.

Duke quickly glanced at He Wei and said, "I'll count to three, you take them and escape."

He Wei's heart tightened, and she refused without hesitation: "No, I didn't come here to be a deserter. I want to fight alongside you. You need me!"

To make it easier to blend in with Bellamy, none of them wore combat uniforms. Duke touched the belt around his waist, where the emergency grab device that every soldier had was installed.

"I will activate it when needed. I promised to take you back."

"He Wei! Are you disobeying orders?!"

He Wei's eyes instantly filled with tears. Even though she had prepared herself before coming, she was still shocked to see her teammates die in front of her.

He Wei realized that she was still too unprepared.

As He Wei turned around with the constantly urging survivors, she even had a moment of doubt as to whether it was really the right thing to do to save these people.

They didn't seem to feel even a shred of remorse towards their captain; they just kept urging her to leave with their ugly faces.

He Wei believed that if she hadn't still had a gun, these people would have run away long ago.

She gave the crowd a deep look, gripped her pistol, and led her men away from the other side, as a fierce gunshot rang out behind them.

There were also sounds carried by the wind.

"Good girl, let's go to the tavern."

In an instant, He Wei's tears poured out of her eyes. She bit her lip tightly until she tasted a trace of blood in her mouth, which stopped her from turning back.

She led a group of people along the route she remembered and ran all the way there.

The sounds kept coming from behind.

"Does this little brat even know where she's going? Don't lead us astray."

"That group only allowed this little girl to protect us as we left. It seems they don't care about our safety at all. We don't really need to follow her."

"...If you ask me, it's a waste for her to have a gun."

He Wei closed her eyes briefly, feeling incredibly grateful that she hadn't slacked off during her physical training at school. She quickened her pace, her eyes lighting up when she saw the familiar little tavern.

The owner of the tavern was a gentle-looking young woman, who was standing at the door at that moment.

He Wei knew that the person Anne Vera was waiting for wasn't her, but the tears she had just stopped flowing started falling again.

Anneville seemed a little surprised to see them, but only for a moment. She stepped forward, asked nothing, and gave He Wei a brief hug.

The middle-aged man closest to He Wei spoke up with dissatisfaction: "Why are you still blocking the doorway? We finally escaped, do you want us to get back into danger?"

He Wei tightened her grip on Annie Wei's back for a moment.

With her bloodshot eyes wide open, she looked at the man and said, "I don't think I can let you in. This street is relatively clean for now. You should find a house nearby to stay in."

The group instantly erupted in shock, staring in astonishment at He Wei's expressionless face.

"But it wasn't you who brought us here..."

He Wei couldn't help but raise her voice to interrupt him: "I think you all have misunderstood one thing. We are not Bellamy's soldiers, nor are we obligated to rescue you unconditionally."

She thought the captain and the others were all qualified soldiers, true heroes.

She was born the daughter of a noble family in the Federal Safe Zone, and her status as the Child of Light added another layer of brilliance to her.

No matter how much she wanted to integrate into the team and become like Lili, she couldn't change her arrogant and selfish nature.

He Wei raised her head with a cold look in her eyes: "The captain rescued you out of pity, but now I'm the only one standing here. I don't welcome you. You can leave now."

A look of shock mixed with anger crossed the man's face. He couldn't help but step forward, raising his fist: "What did you say?!"

He Wei also held a gun to his chest.

A tall shadow suddenly enveloped the man, and a strong arm encased in armor stood between the man and He Wei.

Then, without any effort, he grabbed a burly man by the neck and lifted him up.

“I don’t think you’re welcome at my tavern, Fitch. You’d better get out before I lose my temper.”

Fitch struggled in Hagrid's grasp for a moment, but finally realized with horror that his strength was nothing compared to Hagrid's. After being thrown down by Hagrid, he glared at them resentfully for a long time.

In the end, he left with his people.

He Wei looked at Haig and gave him a forced smile: "Thank you."

Hagrid silently shook his head, his deep brown eyes behind the window as gentle as Anneville's: "Where are Duke and the others? Let's go see them."

"Maybe it's not too late."

He Wei looked at him in surprise, then nodded heavily.

After He Wei left, Duke slammed the gun, which had been empty of its last bullet, into the alien's head, and then drew his longsword.

He gave a wry smile: "To be honest, I have a feeling."

His teammate, who was back-to-back with him facing the enemy, hastily responded with a "Huh?"

Duke decapitated a mutant with a single sword stroke: "I mean, in the future, melee weapons might become an important course in the individual combat department of the Federal University."
