After receiving a large amount of starlight, the group watched as Cen Xingbang stood frozen in place for a while before getting up and leading them toward the statue. The statue trembled as his hand brushed against something.
It disappeared with a rumble before everyone's eyes, revealing a bottomless passage that could only accommodate one person at a time.
Cen Xingbang stepped onto the edge of the cave entrance and explained, "This is the fastest way to get up there. The trick is to relax your body."
After saying that, he jumped in first as a demonstration. The dark cave entrance quickly swallowed people up. Gu Li listened to the cave entrance for a long time without any sound, and then stepped onto the edge.
"Are you guys sure you want to come up with me? I heard it's dangerous."
Lancer scoffed, "Only a fool wouldn't go with you. Hurry up and jump, that thing behind us is about to catch up again."
Gu Li saw that even Lucy nodded in agreement, and chuckled, "You'd better not have too high expectations of me. Didn't you see that the starlight I gave Mr. Cen just now had no effect at all?"
Lan Meng stepped forward with a harmless smile: "If they don't work, I don't mind if you and I experiment with them, as many times as you like."
Gu Li: ...You're just getting something for free.
She rolled her eyes and jumped down: "You don't really think I'm stupid, do you?"
The second person to jump down was Lancer, who was laughing loudly. In the midst of that demonic laughter, Gu Li vaguely felt his body pass through something, his vision brightened slightly, and he appeared in the sky above the entire city.
Her expression hardened, and her wings suddenly spread open, barely stopping her freefall. She breathed a sigh of relief, but then a series of heavy forces came from behind her.
The impact caused her to plummet downwards with the force of gravity.
The three people behind him were still screaming, interspersed with the faint sound of someone's mindless laughter. Gu Li tried to flap his wings more powerfully than before, and carefully repaired any possible fractures.
Carrying an unbearable weight, Gu Li landed heavily in front of the church, and with a "crack," both of his legs broke.
Gu Li took a deep breath, and after the three idiots had shoved him off, he shouted, "Cecil—"
Upon hearing this name, Lan Meng silently took a step back.
Three seconds later, the church doors burst open with a bang, and something slender shot out, pulling the chestnut clumps on the ground into the church.
The door slammed shut again right in front of Lancer's nose.
He touched his nose and led his brother and Lucy back: "Well, we can't always be a burden. Let's go see if we can help out anywhere."
Inside the church, Gu Li was pulled into the familiar treatment room with a snap by Cecil's slender, wrist-like object. Her legs were wrapped in something, and the wrist released her after a while.
Gu Li waved towards the ceiling and grinned, "Cecil, long time no see."
"It has been a while since we last met. I don't think that's a valid reason for you to appear before me with comminuted fractures in both legs?"
Even though Gu Li could only see a slender black shadow, she could sense Cecil's anger. She chuckled awkwardly, "There's nothing we can do about it. The statues in the underground city actually lead directly to the sky above the city."
"Luckily I can fly, otherwise I wouldn't have broken both legs."
Cecil circled her once, his tone tinged with curiosity: "You look different. Why... why do I smell the scent of a king on you?"
smell?
Gu Li sniffed himself all over, then asked suspiciously, "Could it be because I agreed to become the king's agent?"
"What—you've become the king's man!?"
Gu Li broke out in a cold sweat and quickly corrected her, "It's an executor, an executor! I'm responsible for watching over the city while the king is asleep!"
She moved her legs, which had fully recovered, jumped out of bed, and said in a tone that was both indifferent and serious, "I still don't know exactly how to do this, but it sounds like it has to be me, so I had no choice but to agree."
"After all, I can't bear to part with you all."
Cecil whimpered and leaped onto Gu Li's back, rolling around on the ground: "Li Li, you're so good to me, Cecil, you truly are my friend!"
Gu Li almost laughed, and tugged at Cecil, who was rolling around on his back, wondering how they had gotten here.
As the two were getting intimate, two rhythmic knocks came from outside the door, and a footstep stopped at the doorway.
Gu Li looked over upon hearing the sound and prepared to get up and leave. Cecil's work was always very busy, and it was time for her to fulfill her responsibilities.
Cecil muttered, "It's Eric again. He came in such a hurry, couldn't he have let Lili rest a little longer?"
Gu Li's eyes widened slightly. "You've come to see me?"
She quickly squeezed Cecil's slender wrist and walked towards the door: "Since you came to see me, I'll leave Cecil first."
She paused at the doorway, turning back to look at the slender shadow left alone in the darkness: "This underground adventure was quite interesting. I'll tell you about it next time I have time."
"Yay!"
Gu Li opened the door to the consultation room, and sure enough, the ever-elegant Goat Hoof Man stood in front of the door, holding a silver hand, with one hoof placed in front of his chest, bowing to her.
“Miss Guli, it’s been a long time. I’m so glad you’ve become the king’s representative. I will do my best to assist you.”
She looked at the ever-elegant and composed Goat's Hoof Man, her gaze sweeping over the dozens of eyes in his body: "Eric doesn't seem to be doing too well. Is the situation in the city dire?"
The two were dressed in identical brown suits, but Eric's was more elaborate and elegant, while Gu Li's was more delicate and refined. They gradually walked away under Cecil's gaze.
Gu Li secretly waved his hand, which was behind his back, toward Cecil.
Eric looked at the girl walking beside him, a hint of gentleness flashing in his rectangular pupils. He led her to a small building, which was lit up inside.
"This is my temporary residence, since we cannot enter the king's castle for the time being. Our war council will be held here soon."
Gu Li nodded thoughtfully: "Has the king already gone to sleep?"
A sense of pleasure was aroused by her question, which sounded as if she were just asleep. Eric opened the door for her, gestured for her to enter, and nodded: "She has been asleep since yesterday. In fact, this is the result of Wang's best efforts to suppress it."
The living room was filled with people she knew from the neighborhood. The moment she entered, they all looked in her direction. Eric gently supported her shoulder as they walked toward the center of the group.
"Now that everyone's here, it's time to talk about how to get through this quiet period."
All eyes fell on Gu Li, their gazes filled with a trust that made Gu Li tremble slightly.
Eric smiled slightly: "For the first time in fifty years, there is no king."
