The spaceship was completely silent. They subconsciously looked down at the silver cube below, its deliberately sealed exterior revealing not a trace of human presence.
Is it possible that no one else besides those in this building could have survived?
Irwin subconsciously looked at the girl piloting the spaceship ahead. Only after she took off her fiery red fur coat did he realize that her figure was much thinner than he had imagined.
There is no doubt that she led them to escape from this base.
So he asked, "What did you see in the hall?"
The group, who were still in a state of panic about the base's fall, turned their attention to what was ahead.
The girl piloting the spaceship spoke in a somewhat nonchalant tone.
"Those insects are trying to create a summoning circle in the hall."
She doesn't need to explicitly say what she can summon; everyone has their own imagination.
Irwin's face suddenly darkened. He thought of the nearly one thousand people locked in the hall. If what Gu Li said was true...
The moment the summoned creatures appeared, there was so much readily available food, and such enormous creatures—it was a huge blow to this defensive line.
Perhaps the communication was right; no matter how many people were still alive inside the base, their fate was sealed the moment they stepped inside.
Base C01 has fallen.
All they can do now is abandon the base and any remaining survivors, and take the message to the nearest C02.
The man with the prosthetic eye was silent for a moment. His intact eye was fixed on the ground below. His tone became serious, and he did not ask her how she saw it.
In a place like this, any secrets would have been buried long ago.
He just turned his head away fiercely: "Then let's not linger here, let's fucking get out of here and get to C02 right now!"
Gu Li's sky-blue eyes were fixed on what was below.
Only she knew that, unlike others, she could stop all of this from happening.
As long as she jumps off the spaceship now and rushes into the hall regardless of whether the so-called king appears or not, she and He Shiyi will have a fighting chance.
This would resolve the catastrophic threat to C01.
The joystick under Gu Li's hand creaked under the strain, and Zhang Heng, sitting in the passenger seat, silently shut his mouth, hugging his fur coat and curling up into a ball.
Whether it's going to get reinforcements or... going down to rescue people, as long as the boss is still with him, he has no objections.
He has the integrity of a leg ornament.
Gu Li closed her eyes slightly, but she was not just an individual; behind her was a city that revered her as its queen.
Just because the people in the Exiled Zone One are unaware of the existence of the advanced species doesn't mean that no one in the Federation knows about it.
She couldn't take them with her on this adventure.
Gu Li touched the silver cane beside him with one hand, tightened his grip, and turned the control stick, causing the spaceship to accelerate.
Just then, a hand landed on her shoulder.
Irwin's calm yet slightly manic voice came through: "Miss Gu Li, you take them to C02, I'll go check inside the base."
Someone exclaimed in astonishment, "Are you crazy!"
"That area might already be overrun by alien species. Wouldn't you be throwing your life away if you went there?!"
"Don't be silly, the people still inside are definitely dead by now. Brother, let's go find rescue together and come back together."
Amidst a cacophony of astonished voices, Gu Li opened her eyes wide and turned to stare at Irwin for a moment.
The struggle deep in her eyes met those resolute green eyes for a few seconds, and the scales in her heart began to tip.
Gu Li forced a small smile: "How about taking me with you?"
Irwin finally showed a hint of surprise.
Before he could answer.
Just as the spaceship was about to fly over the ferry crossing, she suddenly stood up, gripped the control stick, pulled Zhang Heng over, and pressed him into the pilot's seat.
The hatch opened, blowing everyone into a disheveled state. Gu Li, with one foot on the edge of the hatch and covering her head with her hat, shouted to Zhang Heng, "Keep your clothes safe for now, we'll come find you in C02!"
After saying that, she leaped down amidst Zhang Heng's pale, greenish face, her brown dress jacket billowing high behind her.
Just as Irwin was about to follow, he was pulled back and turned to meet the complex expression on the prosthetic eye's face.
He tossed a handful of bullets into Irwin's arms, his voice muffled by the wind: "Young people have so much energy, I'm getting old... Don't worry, I'll be waiting for you in C02 with this lad."
The green-eyed youth held the bullet in his arms, nodded slightly, and jumped down without hesitation.
Gu Li rolled lightly on the ground, exhaled, and heard the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground behind her. She was just about to get up.
"Click".
She and Irwin met eyes, and their expressions froze simultaneously.
Under Irwin's gaze, Gu Li straightened up nonchalantly, turned around, and led the way into the base.
Irwin, watching her walk normally from behind, frowned deeply.
Did he mishear me?
Upon re-entering the silver passageway within the base, he quickly composed himself, drew his pistol, and became fully alert.
Gu Li stood at the crossroads, looked at the young man following behind him, and pointed his cane to the road on the left.
"I'll go check the lobby. Irwin, you go see if there are any survivors upstairs. We'll meet here in an hour."
Upon hearing this, Irwin gave her a deep look, deftly twirled the pistol in his hand, and tossed it to her.
"You do have a secret."
Gu Li caught the pistol, rolled her eyes upon hearing this, and walked to the other side without hesitation: "Alright, you talk as if you don't have anything to say, I'm leaving first."
Irwin snorted softly, and when she looked over again, the person had already vanished.
