Gu Li stared wide-eyed at Wang Li's retreating figure, a strange feeling enveloping her.
"They were all shouting for violence before, so how come they're so sure I'm not an imposter now?"
Irwin stuffed the task list into his breast pocket and began to stretch his limbs, his whole body making crackling sounds.
He stretched out his long arm, his green eyes casually glancing at her: "What's so surprising about that?"
“Wang Li has been working in the First District for twenty years since he was a teenager, and he can only stay on the front line now, risking his life.”
"Is it because he doesn't want to leave?"
Irwin paused again as he spoke, "That's quite possible."
"In short, all you need to know is that he has a well-known nickname in District 1: the Stubborn Iron Rooster."
Stubborn and poor.
But honesty wins people's hearts.
Gu Li: ...
"Wow... such a down-to-earth nickname," she thought, recalling Wang Li's face. "Aren't those people who give out nicknames afraid of being killed?"
Ignoring the subtle gazes of the others, the two took the initiative to approach the passage beneath the statue, as Irwin prompted.
"There are chips on the protective suits that will automatically assign you location information. Remember to relax your body."
Gu Li nodded. The similarities between the statue and the alien city made her want to take a few more glances.
The two jumped down together, and the pulling sensation from all around made Gu Li feel as if she had fallen into a running washing machine.
The kind of person whose mission is to get rid of the contents of her stomach.
After an unknown amount of time, her feet finally touched solid ground, and at the same time, a gust of wind filled with a putrid, fishy smell was blown into her through her helmet.
Gu Li silently switched to breathing through his mouth, reached out and tugged at Irwin, where black mist swirled around the cracked earth not far in front of them.
The sky was so gloomy that it blended into the churning black fog on the ground.
This once boundless, scorched land suddenly came to a boundary, transforming into a box filled with terror and unease.
It's suffocating.
This is clearly not a "safe" area.
"I guess that thing probably isn't that intelligent..."
Irwin shoved the sack containing the spoils back into his hand, his green eyes quickly scanning the room, his expression grim: "Remember to complain when you get back."
Gu Li also wore a sullen face. Her money-making plan was temporarily shelved, and she listlessly drew her long sword from behind her back.
"Will this job pay extra?"
These words seemed to remind Irwin, who also frowned and put away the two pistols: "No price increase. Bullets have gone up in price again. If I get injured this time, I won't be able to afford a doctor."
The two stood back to back in tacit agreement. Gu Li twirled his sword, using a jumble of moves to slap away the winged alien creature that was diving towards him.
The main idea is to use sheer force to overcome all other techniques.
Behind him, Ilwin nimbly entangled with an Abyss-type creature. Gu Li barely saw how he moved; his figure flashed past the alien species.
A deep, but not fatal, wound was cut into the back of the alien creature, which bared its fangs and roared at Irwin.
Gu Li: Goodness, they're doing gua sha (scraping therapy).
Ilwin, without changing his expression, slashed several times in succession. The Abyss-type creature finally roared and was ultimately cut in half by a series of repeated, albeit few, blows.
Gu Li turned to face a group of furious winged aliens, their large wings flapping and sending a continuous stream of stench onto her face.
She instinctively held her breath, gripped her longsword, and instantly pierced a decaying head. At the same time, she took the opportunity to kick the winged creature on the back and leap high into the air.
The force of each sword strike was just right.
He gave a heartfelt performance as a new human who relies heavily on props.
She returned the favor by scraping each of the winged creatures several times before finally getting rid of them all, and they all fell to the ground together.
Gu Li secretly cast a disdainful glance at Irwin.
Their fragile, superficial camaraderie vanished completely during the gua sha performance.
Both knew perfectly well that the other wasn't using their full strength, yet they still had to cooperate and act.
When the last alien species fell unwillingly, Irwin swiftly pulled a round metal device from his protective suit and inserted it into the ground.
A transparent barrier spread out, indicating that the area within a hundred meters had been cleared.
The two, panting heavily, exchanged a glance behind the barrier.
In the silence, Gu Li suggested, "Shall we take a break?"
Irwin's green eyes closed slightly: "Okay."
They sat at the very top of the alien pile. Gu Li deliberately chose a spot free of slime and fell into deep thought, gazing at the churning black clouds in the distance.
Acting is even more tiring than real life. She glanced tentatively at Irwin, who was wiping his dagger with a blank expression.
Those green eyes glanced at her blankly.
Gu Li's tentative words caught in her throat, her lips slowly curving into a cold arc. "Go ahead and act, I'll play along to the end!"
A fierce fighting spirit burned behind her.
Gu Li straightened up and walked down, his face cold as he began to collect flesh and blood from the parts he was assigned to.
As we all know, the new humans are not immune to pollution; in fact, they are more susceptible to it than ordinary people, as evidenced by Irwin's first stop to rest.
Gu Li frowned and looked over, only to meet a pair of even more astonished eyes.
He said, "...Be careful. If you feel something is wrong with your senses, if you hear voices other than your own or have hallucinations, or if you see things that are impossible, you must stop and rest immediately."
Upon hearing this, Gu Li reached out and tapped the black helmet: "So this is an illusion?"
She shouldn't be contaminated.
After all, she was already a high-level species.
The sound inside the helmet was very faint, as if it were coming from a very far place, accompanied by a crackling sound of electricity.
