Chapter 37 Dream or Reality

The next morning, when Lancer opened the door, he saw Gu Li standing there looking exhausted. He could see the deep weariness and despair in her round, animal-like face.

Lancer paused for a moment, then slapped his wrist twice on her shoulder: "Hahaha, little sister, you really came back alive!"

Gu Li, who had easily walked back from a small building just a street away, tremblingly raised its paws and let out a dry, yearning growl from its throat: "Hungry—"

Lancer, who was standing in front of her, subconsciously retracted his tentacles and disappeared in a flash.

Ten minutes later, the middle of the room was filled with countless struggling low-level creatures, which disappeared at an impossible speed.

Lucy, who was the first to finish eating, stood on Gu Li's head with a look of adoration, watching her inhale the food in a frenzy. Lancer, who had gone out hunting for breakfast early in the morning, wiped his sweat.

Thankfully, he made it in time. He was really afraid that before he returned, his brother and Lucy would be nothing but skeletons.

Half an hour later, Gu Li raised its head from the flesh of the lower-level creature, pushing it away with a look of disgust: "Disgusting..."

The sense of accomplishment that Lancer had just felt vanished with a snap as she grumbled. He gritted his teeth, walked over, and picked up Gu Li.

"You think you can be grateful to me for giving me food?!"

As Gu Li was lifted up, she struggled to flip over him and land on his head, letting out a long sigh and looking weary: "Thank you."

"It's just a sigh of 'once you've seen the ocean, other waters seem insignificant,' no need to take it to heart."

Veins bulged on Lancer's head as several tentacles simultaneously pulled Gu Li down from all sides, binding him. His tone was low and irritable: "I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm just really annoyed. Let's fight again."

Gu Li lazily walked out from among his tentacles, casually put the dizzy Lucy on the ground, and showed him the spoils of last night.

On those silvery-white wings, there was a very abrupt gap between the new and old feathers. Lancer paused for a moment, then clicked his tongue.

"Stop playing the victim and tell me what you learned from Mr. Cen last night."

When this was mentioned, Gu Li stiffened: "I don't know."

"Huh?" Lancer leaned closer to her, looking at her suspiciously. "If you don't want to tell me, that's fine. You don't have to fool me, do you?"

Gu Li scratched his head, covered in sweat, and squatted down, clutching his head in despair: "Do you know how devastating it was when Mr. Cen said, 'It's about time we started our lessons,' and I lost consciousness until this morning when I opened my eyes to find Mr. Cen asking me how my studies were going?!"

"My mother hen—"

Lancer took a step back, turned around and opened the door: "I suddenly remembered something urgent, I'm going out for a bit, you can think about it slowly."

The door slammed shut, leaving Gu Li alone in the room, clutching his empty head and going crazy. What was this pain of finding an eraser during math class?

When I left the small building today, the deer-headed man was still standing at the door. He had changed his suit and was still as elegant and arrogant as ever. He casually opened the door for me.

"I hope you learned something from last night's lesson. Come over early tonight."

He raised his wrist and glanced at his watch: "I only slept for two hours last night, but I still have a ton of trouble to deal with."

Gu Li looked at the almost tangible resentment behind him and gave a dry laugh.

After her outburst, Gu Li huddled in a corner, motionless, as a surge of sleepiness gradually overwhelmed her, almost irresistibly drawing her into darkness.

"Hey, give me some food."

In the opposite corner, Simon opened his unusually clear eyes and lazily called out to Gu Li.

Her voice was ashen: "No."

Simon sniffed the air, his suspicious gaze falling on her: "Don't try to fool me, I can smell it all. What did you eat that smells so good?"

"Hey, pay attention to me," Lan Meng said thoughtfully, his dark eyes fixed on Gu Li. He licked his lips and said, "If you give me the food on your body, I'll tell you the answer to your question."

Gu Li's back twitched, and she pulled a bottle of nutrient solution from her pocket and tossed it over, saying weakly, "Tell me, what's puzzling me?"

Lan Meng raised his wrist with difficulty and stuffed the nutrient solution into his mouth, then bit open the bottle with a crunch: "Ugh—"

An indescribable taste burst from his mouth, making Lan Meng's voice hoarse: "Ugh—what are you trying to fool me with, ugh... Hey, come here right now!"

"I'm not coming."

Lan Meng stared at her in disbelief, his entire black body radiating rage: "How can I help you if you don't come over?!"

Gu Li stirred upon hearing this, walked over with a puzzled look on her face, and stopped in front of Lan Meng: "How is it?"

After struggling on the ground for a long time without breaking free of the ropes binding him, Lan Meng chuckled and said, "I can see that, but you have to untie the ropes for me and do something for me before I can tell you."

Gu Li rolled her eyes and turned to leave: "Oh, then you can stay here and don't bother me anymore."

"Hello!"

She curled up in the corner again, as if by magic, fighting off sleep and desperately flipping through her memories.

"Hey!"

She rested her chin on one hand, her eyes gradually glazed over, and her eyelids slowly drooped.

She suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head, which brought her back to her senses. She then heard Lan Meng shout, "Sister! I'll call you sister, okay? That person gave you something to eat, try taking a nap!"

"Remember, after this is done, go to District 11 and retrieve something for me!"

Gu Li, who had been jolted awake, held the bottle still covered in Lan Meng's saliva, twitched the corners of her mouth and walked toward him, her eyes filled with resentment.

She gritted her teeth: "Do you even know I was about to fall asleep, and you woke me up by hitting me?!"

Gu Li shoved the plastic bottle back into Lan Meng's mouth and pushed it in forcefully: "You better stay put, or your brother will come back and deal with you!"

Lan Meng: "Hmm? Hmm hmm hmm!!"

After a brutal beating, Gu Li finally lay down in the suitcase in a good mood, but as soon as he closed his eyes, he was overwhelmed by sleepiness that had returned.

In a daze, she saw the endless universe, and a giant whale covered in silver light swam by amidst the dense and dazzling galaxy.

At the end of that darkness was an enormous monster shrouded in black mist. She simply stood there, and the giant whale swam toward her.

As the distance between them drew closer, Gu Li unconsciously held her breath; in front of that giant whale, she felt like a speck of dust.

Strangely, she felt little fear. In the endless depths of space, she slowly reached out her hand towards it.

The whale's long, drawn-out cry echoed throughout the space. Its massive snout was about to touch her fingers when Gu Li finally saw the countless tentacles on the whale's body, with its lower abdomen swaying.

The head was disproportionately large, as if something inside was stretching it to its limit, and the huge eyes had a strange, hazy yellow hue.

A sudden wave of disgust washed over her.

She abruptly stepped back and withdrew her hand, but the giant whale suddenly accelerated, falling towards her like a mountain.
