After the captain was thrown down, Wang Yi, who was in the courtyard, had no time to pay attention to the terrible tremors coming from above. With trembling hands, he gave Xu Feihe first aid.
After a period of intense tremors, the entire villa finally calmed down.
He heard the sound end, looked up in despair, and wondered if it was finally their turn.
Ning Jia, who was left indoors by Gu Li upstairs, watched the whole thing, but fear uncontrollably rose in her heart.
"Da da da—"
The crisp footsteps grew closer as the person entered the room, accompanied by a girl's husky voice: "Sister Ningjia? There's something I want to tell you."
Ning Jia stared intently as the pair of black leather shoes appeared around the corner. She had just asked the girl for help with the determination to die, thinking it was an escape tool.
But unexpectedly, the girl was able to kill that missionary-level monster all by herself.
She wasn't even hurt!
Aside from a few battle-hardened warriors in the Federation who have undergone the baptism of medicine, it is unheard of for someone like this girl to be able to face those monsters alone.
Is she really human?
Could it be that her senses are still being controlled by the alien species?
"Ah, sister, you're here."
Gu Li looked at the woman who was huddled in the closet with her body tense up, reached out and pulled her out. The wet and slippery touch from her palm made her frown.
"You..." are contaminated?
Ning Jia felt an irresistible force coming from her wrist, and her expression became even more terrified. The thin girl in front of her gradually deformed and was pulled into another terrifying appearance.
Gu Li sighed, stood on tiptoe, reached out and grabbed Ning Jia's collar, pulling her down until she met Ning Jia's trembling eyes.
A small cluster of starlight entered Ning Jia's body.
A few seconds later, Ning Jia was drenched in cold sweat as if she had just been pulled out of the water, panting heavily as she bent over to look at Gu Li.
Ning Jia stared at her in shock: "You...you are..."
Gu Li kept holding onto her collar, a slight smile playing on his lips: "Sister Ningjia, someone's coming. Remember to keep our secret."
After she finished speaking, she turned around and disappeared from Ning Jia's sight.
When the enforcement team, fully armed, rushed in, all that remained was a scene of devastation and violently destroyed corpses, except for the instruments still displaying Level 1 pollution, which indicated what kind of monster had once existed here.
Behind the mask of the tall man who led the team, his eyes carefully scanned the scene. Every corpse on the Corpse Serpent's body had been cleanly and neatly pierced, and the exposed flesh and blood were laid bare before everyone.
Some people couldn't bear it after just one glance and retreated with pale faces. The rest followed the man to investigate the scene, but apart from confirming that the powerful alien was definitely dead, they didn't get any other useful information.
The tall man looked around and then strode towards the room with the highest concentration of pollution.
As soon as he entered, he kicked something soft. He glanced down at it and his eyes narrowed.
He said sternly, "Two men, take District Chief Du to Miss He's place!"
"yes!"
His teammates, suppressing their fear, passed by the corpse that appeared to be torn apart piece by piece, and carried Du Li, whose body resembled a miniature corpse snake, away.
The tall man continued forward, his body tense. His sharp eyes swept across the room, and he stopped in front of the wardrobe. He held a specially made dagger in one hand and used a gun to pry open the wardrobe door.
Ning Jia, pale-faced, with tears in her eyes and unfocused, came into his view.
After confirming that no other abnormalities could be detected in the room, the tall man bent down and roughly hoisted Ning Jia onto his shoulder, then walked out.
Soon, the district chief's residence was cordoned off and designated as a Level 1 contaminated zone, awaiting the arrival of the Children of Light to purify it, a process that would take an unknown number of years.
Inside the District 1 Enforcement Team building, Ning Jia was interrogated immediately after receiving treatment. She sat in the seat that Gu Li had once sat in, looking at the man opposite her who had taken off his mask with a bitter smile.
She moved her lips: "...Boss?"
Wang Li, whose jawline bears a scar, looked up at her, casually nibbled on an unlit cigarette, pressed buttons on his communicator, and gestured with his chin toward Ning Jia.
"Tell me, who else is here?"
Ning Jia glanced discreetly at the camera in the upper left corner, then skillfully adopted an expression that was three parts innocent, three parts confused, and four parts fear: "Captain, you said..."
Wang Li, who was originally just temporarily leading a group of students to the Exile Zone 1 for an internship, clicked his tongue and gave a meaningful look.
The fully armed team members standing behind Ning Jia quietly turned off the camera.
Wang Li glanced at her, his dark circles under his eyes no less than theirs, and his tone carried a warning: "You'd better tell me before my patience runs out."
Ning Jia leaned back on the stool and adjusted the restraints on her wrists: "If I said I didn't see anything..."
Wang Li, sitting opposite him, gradually clenched his fist and straightened up.
Her words shifted smoothly: "...Well, you definitely don't believe me, Boss, haha."
She gave a dry laugh.
Ning Jia pondered for a moment, then gritted her teeth at the guy who had just left the mess behind and run away. You took the stuff and saved people, but how am I supposed to lie to the boss with my eyes open?
With tears welling in his eyes, Wang Li asked, his gaze growing increasingly heavy, "Boss, is it possible that a kind-hearted person who doesn't want to reveal their name saved us?"
Wang Li was almost laughing in anger. Who could produce pollution of this level? The military would probably be unable to hold back any longer. He would provide the report and the group of people would be coming over to beg that person to agree to recruit him.
"This kind person who wishes to remain anonymous is truly kind."
