Fork in the road

Fork in the road

Jeju Island, Mount Unjung.

Suddenly, thick, dark clouds gathered in the sky, darkening the sky abruptly, and snow began to fall.

The sudden snowfall interrupted their conversation, and they decided to find a place to take shelter from the snow.

They found a pavilion, and the two stood there, quietly watching the snow.

The words that had been brewing in my heart were all silently swept away by the falling snow.

Snowflakes, as soft as goose feathers, drifted down slowly. Lin Yun reached out to catch them, and soon his palm was filled with many glistening snowflakes.

She held her hand out to Suiyuan, "Can you see anything wrong this time?" The snowflakes, warmed by her body heat, had not melted, indicating that the spiritual energy within them had leaked out.

"Has someone cast spiritual power into it?"

This deduction sent a jolt through Sui Yuan's heart.

Logically, no cultivator in the world should be able to apply spiritual power to living beings; even the current number one cultivator, Qiming Immortal Venerable, cannot do so. Therefore, there are only two possibilities: either someone has secretly developed an unprecedented technique, or the person possessing such ability is not a cultivator at all.

When the cultivation world was first established, it was decreed that no one should interfere with the cycle of life and death. Anyone who could do so was either dissatisfied with the cultivation world or harbored malicious intentions.

As he was lost in thought, he suddenly heard a surprised gasp beside him: "Look—"

Looking in the direction Lin Yun pointed, the sun and moon overlapped in the night sky, stars shone brightly, and mountains and rivers were radiant.

Even though this extraordinary phenomenon was vast and boundless, roaming between heaven and earth, it was firmly imprisoned within the territory of Jeju by an invisible force. Behind this magnificent sight was the perfectly stable flow of spiritual energy within the barrier.

The two people on Cloud Mountain were both startled, realizing that they had never sensed the existence of the barrier.

A meteor streaked across the night sky from the south, its tail trailing gently. Upon closer inspection, it had vanished without a trace, and the strange phenomenon had disappeared completely. Had Lin Yun not witnessed it with his own eyes, he would have thought it was a dream or a hallucination.

"...You saw it too, didn't you?" she asked the young man standing beside her, who was stunned.

The two exchanged a glance and, without prior arrangement, rushed toward the spot where the barrier had just appeared.

The snow was already ankle-deep, and the two had no choice but to trudge forward through the snow with difficulty.

"Changdu!" Lin Yun called out softly, and his sword came running in response.

She had originally placed the sword at the entrance of Luming Village to guard against another group of people who were investigating the village, but the situation was urgent and she had to recall it first.

"You can't fly on your sword here!" Sui Yuan warned.

“Of course I know.” Fearing she might fall for a diversionary tactic, she quickly devised a plan: “We’ll split up. You go to Luming Village, and I’ll head to the barrier.”

As they approached the fork in the road, Suiyuan still showed no sign of turning back. She urged, "What are you worried about? Didn't you already see my abilities clearly in the dark that day?" She had previously learned from Sanqi when Suiyuan had gone up the mountain, so she knew he had been waiting on Yunzhong Mountain for a long time, having witnessed her investigation of Luming Village. All her previous wariness and probing stemmed from this.

Looking back now, one can guess why Sui Yuan settled in Qingfeng Town – it was simply to ensure that the secret of Luming Village would not be leaked.

Upon reaching the intersection, the young man finally spoke, "If you still insist on using that move and falling into a dazed state, who can guarantee your safety?"

"I have a sword in my hand," she said, gripping the sword tightly.

Lin Yunwang calculated the time in his mind, not wanting to say more. "Those people who went to Luming Village are despicable. With you there to keep watch, they won't dare to show themselves easily."

Be careful in everything.

The two then parted ways.

A young man stood atop a mountain, gazing northwards.

He clearly saw that something unusual was happening there.
