Moonlight

Moonlight

The mysterious "person" circled Lin Yun once, scrutinizing him carefully, before saying, "What are we talking about? You want to stay here with me? I don't care."

He felt he had reason to be indignant at this woman who, no matter how difficult the situation, remained composed and made a mess of the illusion.

Besides, she dared to misunderstand me. I've clearly been busy making up for the mess this person made! How annoying! That's what He thought.

Lin Yunwang's gaze followed the figure in the air the whole time. He saw it wherever it flew, and only when it stopped flying around did he look away.

He also caught sight of the girl's ever-following gaze, and his resentment quietly dissipated. He thought to himself: Considering she's the only one who can see him, he should forgive her.

"Let's get down to business." Her gaze finally settled on the bed. "Let him leave the tower."

He suddenly became agitated, raising his voice, "How many times have I told you? This person is just unconscious, not fatal, he won't die, there's no need to rush out of the tower."

His tone was so urgent that it seemed like he was all bark and no bite, yet he didn't seem to be lying. Since there was no way to leave the tower for the time being, he had no choice but to believe in Him.

Lin Yunwang nodded slightly upon hearing this, then abruptly changed the subject: "I haven't asked your name yet. My name is Lin Yunwang. And yours?"

This simple question stumped Him. After thinking for a long time, He said, "Your name is so ordinary. My name is Yu Lu, Yu as in 'momentary' and Lu as in 'busy.' Isn't it special?"

"Yes, but each name has its own meaning. Mine is simple, but it also carries my parents' high expectations."

Lin Yunwang didn't hear what He mumbled, and was about to listen carefully, but He didn't say anything more after that.

Her short fingers tapped around in the air, leaving onlookers bewildered, while the exhausted girl simply watched quietly without making a sound.

After a long while, He suddenly leaped in front of her, extremely close, almost nose to nose. His face was filled with uncontrollable joy, as if he had accomplished something great: "I've found the source of the fusion of illusions!"

Yu Lu led her to look down at the hundred mirrors, explaining, "You mixed the spiritual power of the Wind-Raising Spell into it, which resonated with his illusion, and coincidentally..."

"His fantasies are all about you." His teasing and gossipy eyes pierced straight at her.

But the joke didn't work. Lin Yun's composure was written all over her face; she smiled faintly and didn't reply.

Yu Lu, feeling awkward, gave an "Oh" and continued, "Except for you, all those who entered the tower this time failed."

He believed the responsibility for this lay with Lin Yunwang and Zhou Hengyan. If it weren't for the two of them disrupting the illusion, he wouldn't have exceeded the usage limit, and consequently, the illusions of everyone entering the tower would have been affected.

"It's all your fault for causing trouble—"

His accusations were immediately refuted by Lin Yun, "The responsibility lies entirely with you. You insisted on competing with us, completely unaware that you were incapable."

Upon hearing this, Yu Lu's spirits sank, and he muttered to himself, "Am I not a qualified guardian spirit?"

Lin Yun heard this but didn't know how to comfort him, so he gently patted him.

Casually scanning the "final chapters" of each illusion, my gaze was quickly drawn to a familiar figure. Perhaps the sight of her lying in a pool of blood was too gruesome, for I blurted out, "Is this really alright?"

Yu Lu followed her gaze and said, "You mean her? It's just an external injury, it looks scary, but she's already taken a hemostatic pill."

"This is terrifying."

She seemed to know everything about each secret realm, and the more she spoke, the more confident she became, her pride overflowing from her face. "This one couldn't bear the torture and wanted to commit suicide, but I managed to stop him in time."

The more they looked, the stranger it seemed. Their trials had all ended, and they should have been sent out of the tower.

Yu Lu then changed the subject, “As you can see, the Thousand Towers seem to have stagnated. It’s already the eighth day outside, and you should have been released long ago. However, I can’t control it now, so I need you to find the door to the illusion you’re in so I can draw upon my power.”

Lin Yun nodded. In the original illusion with Him, Zhou Hengyan was lying on the bed, looking exactly as he had before he left, with a pale face and a forehead covered in sweat.

"I cannot interfere or provide guidance based on the rules set by the master. You must walk your own path."

"Alright," Lin Yun replied. "Then, may I have my sword back?"

The spirit born from the Thousand Towers did not answer and disappeared.

The girl kept calling the name of the Long Crossing Sword in her heart. Perhaps the thought was too strong, because the sword's edge broke through layers of obstacles and appeared before her eyes.

"Let's go." Lin Yun carried Zhou Hengyan on his back, riding the Changdu Sword, leaving this place that looked just like the Jingyin Sect behind.

She had a guess in her mind.

The areas covered by the previous simple searches and systematic explorations were all limited, but there was one place that neither of them had ever explored.

Upward, ever upward.

After an unknown amount of time, the system encouraged her in her sea of consciousness. The spiritual energy stored in her spiritual platform had run out, like the intense sunlight scorching the entire earth, leaving it cracked and parched.

A familiar, dull pain returned from her mind. Lin Yun tightened her grip on Zhou Hengyan's hand, and with a "whoosh," the long sword returned to its sheath. She looked around somewhat blankly; not far away, a full moon hung in the sky.

It was already mid-April.

She started running and ran towards the person who was running towards her.

"Master, Senior Brother Zhou, he..."

Inside the tower, two figures silently gazed outwards.

"Is this the sight you wanted to see?" Yu Lu asked, tilting his head.

This tone reminded the other person of the bewitching voice of the spirit disguised as a child when they entered the tower. This person was far from being as harmless as he appeared.

Seeing that he remained silent, Yu Lu continued, "Although I cannot access your memories, everyone's past experiences are different. Yet, the illusion created for her also works on you. Why is that?"

The man chuckled and countered, "And why did you show yourself, making her stay for so long?"

Yu Lu lowered his head, not wanting to answer the question.

But He already knows the answer to the question; He's just too lonely.

For fifty years, this is the first mortal to see Himself and hear His words. And mortals have a fatal attraction for Him.

He had always imagined that Lin Yun would ask her master, so that he could proudly say, "My master comes to see me every month." But she was not a talkative person, and in the end, he could not utter those enviable words of happiness.

One returned to his rightful place, and the other merged into the Thousand Towers, both eventually disappearing from this place where the outside world could be seen.

Upon careful consideration, although Lin Yunwang and the system can be considered as one at the moment, the system is still affected by his illusions because it pities his suffering and grieves for his injuries.
