Chapter 17: She slammed into the window
The mists were grey and dark.
Lin Zhuyue frowned and said, "These are..."
"Some damaged souls."
A long sword emitting blue-purple light appeared in Shi Can's hand. It was Lingwu Jueren. He raised his hand and swung the sword, and the mist was directly cut away.
"There are many such spirits in the hospital, and since there happened to be a living 'shell' here, they instinctively gathered here. They have little chance of harming anyone and will dissipate quickly."
Dean Zhang was a little confused. He couldn't see the ghost or the Lingwu Jue Blade, and didn't know what was going on.
Shi Can didn't want to explain any more. He turned around and said to Wen Miyan and Ye Yangjia:
"You guys come over and take a look?"
Wen Miyan and Ye Yangjia walked forward.
Wen Miyan lowered her head and looked at Fan Taotao calmly. After a moment, she reached out and placed her hand on Fan Taotao's wrist:
"Sure enough, this child's soul is not in his body."
Lin Zhuyue asked: "The soul is not here...?"
"A living person is made up of two things: a living body and a living soul."
Shi Can explained to Lin Zhuyue,
"Before death, the two generally remain inseparable. However, there are special cases where the soul sometimes leaves the body. The reasons are usually frightened, mistakenly believing that the body is dead, or being possessed by the soul."
"In this situation where the body is still alive but the soul is missing, the most typical manifestation is coma."
Lin Zhuyue pondered for a moment and asked, "Vegetative state?"
Shi Chan nodded: "Yes, he will become a vegetable."
Lin Zhuyue asked: "If we can find the soul back, will this child be able to wake up?"
"Her condition is still good enough to try to recover her."
Shi Can said to Lin Zhuyue,
"Remember a crucial number—forty-nine. The difference between living souls and dead souls is that dead souls possess only Yin energy, while living souls possess both Yin and Yang energy, emphasizing a balance between Yin and Yang."
"When the living soul has not yet left the body, that is, when the life span has not yet ended, it is called the 'front yin'. Once the living soul leaves the body, the yang energy will gradually dissipate. After forty-nine days, the yang energy has dissipated, and the living soul has completely transformed into a dead soul. This state is called the 'back yin'."
"The soul in between these two states—the soul that has left the body but whose yang energy has not yet completely dissipated—is called the 'bardo body' by our ancestors. If the soul is in the 'bardo' state but the body is not dead yet, one can try to 'resurrect' the soul. It sounds extreme, but the Spiritual Master House has extensive experience in this area."
Ye Yangjia said: "The prerequisite for trying is to find the soul."
Wen Miyan agreed: "Good question, where is her soul?"
Ye Yangjia said, "According to experience, if a soul in the 'bardo body' but whose body is still alive is not with the body, it is more likely to stay at the scene of the accident."
Shi Can raised his hand, patted Wen Miyan and Ye Yangjia standing on either side of him, and asked, "You two should be able to handle something like summoning spirits, right?"
Ye Yangjia understood what he meant: "Action separately?"
Shi Can nodded and said:
"Summoning the spirit is very important, but the other party who played the Pen Fairy game is also in danger. Who knows what the evil spirit will do because of the interference?"
Shi Can said slowly:
"Don't tell me you two can't handle it, or you can just transfer to Class 2 or go back to second grade."
Ye Yangjia just wanted to punch Shi Can: "You're crazy. Can't you accept students who can't call souls into the second grade?"
Lin Zhuyue, who couldn't call back souls, said: "......?"
You can quarrel one way or another, but why hurt her accidentally?
Shi Can arranged:
"Then you two will be responsible for summoning and resurrecting the spirits. The newcomer and I will go find the girl at the mental health center. If the Pen Fairy isn't here, he's probably with the other girl. Let's go and capture him."
Wen Miyan readily agreed:
"Okay, let's divide it this way."
She didn't want to go on a mission with Shi Chan at all.
Seeing that they had assigned tasks, Chu Hongyu very cooperatively suggested: "On the way to the Mental Health Center, we will pass by the accident site. I will take you there."
They didn't stay in the ward for long. They left the hospital together and got into a business car parked in the underground parking lot.
The road at the scene of the accident was built in a somewhat awkward manner. There was only one lane for driving in both directions, and there were no bicycle lanes on either side of the road. Two-wheeled vehicles had to either walk on the sidewalk paved with pink bricks or on the car driving lane below.
Lin Zhuyue felt that this road was very uncomfortable.
This section of road is not suitable for parking. After Chu Hongyu parked the car on the side of the road, he could only urge Wen Miyan and Ye Yangjia to get off quickly.
Wen Miyan waved towards them:
"Call me if you need anything."
Commercial vehicles are back on the road.
Shi Can was sitting in the car and suddenly said:
"This road should be replanned. If it is not convenient to widen it, it can be changed to a one-way road."
Chu Hongyu asked: "Isn't the feng shui wrong?"
Shi Chan said calmly:
"It's not a feng shui issue. This kind of planning itself makes car accidents very likely. Car accidents are considered sudden deaths, and the souls of those who die suddenly are likely to linger in the land of death. More car accidents means more dead souls, and more dead souls mean more evil spirits. They will harm people and not hesitate to cause car accidents to do so."
"To put it simply, it's no different from raising a Gu. Now is the time to change it while it's not a Gu pond and hasn't caused a disaster."
Chu Hongyu was silent for a moment and replied:
"I'll submit my opinion."
Shi Chan asked, “Do you need my help?”
Chu Hongyu did not hold back and replied:
"It would be great if you could offer some professional advice. The suggestions from the Spiritual Master's Mansion should be more worthy of consideration than mine."
Shi Chan promised:
"I'll mention it in the mission report."
Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at the mental health center.
The campus of Qianniu City Mental Health Center has been in use for a long time, and there was not much money at the beginning, so there was no underground parking lot and all parking spaces were set up on the ground.
It was not easy to find a parking space, so Chu Hongyu asked Lin Zhuyue and Shi Can to get off the car at the entrance of the inpatient building.
Lin Zhuyue subconsciously looked upstairs.
Then she tugged at Shi Chan’s sleeve.
From a window on the third floor, she saw a figure standing by, looking down at them. The figure was wearing dark clothing, and through the gray curtains, it was hard to tell what color it was. But Lin Zhuyue could see clearly that his face was extremely pale, a paleness that didn't resemble a living person.
The window was also covered with gray-black fog.
Lin Zhuyue asked: "That's not a human, right?"
"Yes, it's a ghost, and a fierce ghost at that."
Shi Chan raised his head and looked into that pale face.
"Maybe he is the one we are looking for."
After a moment, the ghost turned and disappeared by the window.
Less than five minutes later, Chu Hongyu came running over and said to Lin Zhuyue and Shi Can:
"The people in the inpatient department just said that Yu Xiaoyan has gone crazy."
Yu Xiaoyan is the second person involved in this incident. She has been sent to a mental hospital because of her frequent abnormal self-harm behavior.
Shi Chan urged, “Don’t dawdle, lead the way quickly.”
Chu Hongyu took Lin Zhuyue and Shi Can upstairs.
Patients on the first and second floors of the inpatient department can move around freely, but from the third floor onwards, the patients are managed, and there are even police officers guarding the stairs leading from the second floor to the third floor.
Lin Zhuyue had heard that mental hospitals not only held patients with common behavioral disorders, but also prisoners who harmed others due to mental disorders.
Chu Hongyu showed the police his special certificate.
Lin Zhuyue suddenly raised his head.
Being able to feel...
Cruel, awful malice...
Something is going to happen.
"Sorry, excuse me!"
Lin Zhuyue walked between two policemen, opened the cordon, and ran up in two steps.
"Hello!"
Shi Chan stuffed his special ID into the police's hand,
"I'll go up first. I can't let her act alone!"
Lin Zhuyue climbed to the third floor. Without looking at the structure of the corridor, she ran directly to the right.
After turning right, there is a ward door that is half open.
From inside came the girl's desperate cries and several anxious voices.
"No restraints?"
"I used it, she broke free! Every time this child has an attack, she's incredibly strong, nothing can tie her up! Come on, help hold her down, her hand has just gotten better--"
"Let me go! Let me go! I want to die!"
Lin Zhuyue ran towards the ward, subconsciously raising his hands to cover his mouth and nose while running.
A gray mist was floating in the corridor on the third floor, and Lin Zhuyue felt like he would inhale heavy pollutants into his lungs if he was not careful.
"Bang!"
Lin Zhuyue kicked open the door and rushed into the ward.
There were two nurses, two policemen, and a young girl in the ward. This girl was the second person involved in the mission, Yu Xiaoyan.
The girl was struggling desperately, with madness, fear and dead despair in her eyes. Tears rolled down her cheeks. Both of her hands were held, and her ten fingernails were cracked and bloody.
There were scratch marks on the wall, deep and frantic, like those made by a wild beast. These marks were covered with blood, some new and some old, and it was obvious that the blood came from the girl's hands.
Perhaps it was because Lin Zhuyue barged in so suddenly that Yu Xiaoyan, who was going crazy, was stunned. After a moment, she said:
"Save me, save me—"
Her limbs, which had just been able to throw the police and nurses away, became weak and powerless.
After the nurse and police officer who were holding Yu Xiaoyan exchanged glances, the hands that were restraining Yu Xiaoyan relaxed.
Lin Zhuyue felt as if he had been electrocuted. Not only did he not breathe a sigh of relief, but his hair stood on end:
"Don't let her go!"
Yu Xiaoyan smiled lightly, and her limbs regained strength. Suddenly, she turned around and broke free from the nurse and the police, rushing towards the narrow, guardrailed window like a cannonball.
Lin Zhuyue's body had long been prepared to deal with the crisis. She rushed forward as fast as she could and reached out to grab Yu Xiaoyan who was about to rush out.
There were sounds of shattering windows and breaking guardrails.
Lin Zhuyue's mind went blank for a moment.
Jumped out? Were you not stopped?
No, stopped.
She held a soft, yet warm body in her arms. She had just hugged Yu Xiaoyan and then fell to the ground.
So, the one that just rushed out of the window was...
Shi Can walked to the window, looked down, and said unhappily:
"He actually ran away? Isn't driving the victim crazy in front of the spiritualist an active provocation?"
You've already provoked me, why are you running away?
The nurse reacted and said, "Help him up quickly."
They went to support Lin Zhuyue and Yu Xiaoyan, but Yu Xiaoyan had already fainted.
“Well done.”
Shi Can helped Lin Zhuyue up.
"Are you not hurt?"
"Probably not. Is she okay?"
Lin Zhuyue stood up and calmed her breath. She felt a little scared afterward. In order to ease this fear, she played a joke on Shi Can.
"I thought you would scold me because I scared the Pen Fairy away."
"No, according to the spiritual master's principle, when dealing with any incident, the living should be given priority."
Shi Chan looked outside through the broken window.
"If a ghost escapes, you can catch it again, but a living person only has one life. If you hit it against the window like this, even if you can't jump out, it will be a disaster."
