Chapter 273 Always

Yun Wei stammered for a long time, but still found it difficult to speak.

Catherine wouldn't give him much time. "You don't need to explain to me. Things have come to this point, I only need one outcome: you terminate the contract—of course, I'll give you sufficient compensation. Can you do that?"

She looked up at Yun Wei, her question leaving no room for argument.

Those smoky gray eyes were exactly like Isaac's—cold, dignified, aloof, and indifferent.

"Yes, Your Majesty. I understand," Yun Wei could only reply.

He lacked the courage to resist, and he had no reason to resist.

“I’ll give you time to prepare, but don’t keep me waiting too long.” Seeing that he agreed, Catherine’s expression softened considerably. She glanced at Yun Wei’s chest and casually asked, “That pendant, was it also a gift from Isa?”

Since it was already summer, Yun Wei didn't fasten all the buttons, and half of the black pendant was sticking out.

After he successfully advanced to level seven, he tried wearing the pendant again, but he did not break through the level seven barrier.

Such are the laws of the world; no one can easily break them.

“Yes, Your Majesty,” he replied quietly.

“I received a letter from him a few days ago, in which he described his extraordinary adventures in the far north.” Catherine looked away. “So, you haven’t known each other for very long. Everyone has been young, it’s no big deal.”

Yun Wei remained noncommittal.

All told, he has only known Isaac for a year.

He originally thought they would be together for a long time.

Seeing that Yun Wei remained silent, Catherine poured herself another cup of tea. "Let's chat a bit more. Isa will be here soon. Adjust your expression; I don't want you to cause any rift with Isa because of you."

The other person said it with a smile.

Such a smile was merely a matter of etiquette and had nothing to do with Yun Wei.

It was at this moment that Yun Wei suddenly realized that Isaac was no longer just his Isaac.

“I understand, Your Majesty.” He forced a smile, which he did effortlessly.

He thought for a moment and asked about a past event he had once been curious about, "Then tell me about Aragorn. After Alch disappeared into the elemental torrent, what happened to that knight?"

Catherine was about to drink her tea when she heard this and suddenly stopped.

She put the teacup down again. "I'm a little surprised that you know about them. But it's not exactly a secret; after Alch disappeared, Aragorn did indeed go missing."

Yun Wei couldn't help but feel surprised.

He always believed that Aragorn had married someone else after that.

Catherine shook her head and smiled. "Actually, our titles are inherited from his brother. So, as I said before, here's the problem: if Isaac has a brother, I don't mind who he likes at all."

Yun Wei didn't want to dwell on this issue any longer, so he changed the subject, "By the way, I heard that Bili City seems to have made an agreement with the Temu Brown family that they could not land there? Was it also a magical contract?"

Catherine did not answer immediately; she stared at Yun Wei and said, "I am not obligated to answer all your questions."

“I know, Your Majesty.” Yun Wei also smiled. “I was just asking casually while waiting for Isaac.”

Catherine finished her tea in one gulp.

Then she slowly said, "I almost thought I misjudged you, but you really don't seem to have that kind of ambition. Two hundred years ago, it was indeed His Majesty Aragorn who made an agreement with them, but it wasn't a magical contract."

"Although they seem to have kept their promise for now, it's only been two hundred years. Who knows what will happen in another two hundred years? So no one will naively believe in promises."

“But contracts are too troublesome to deal with. The Temu Browne family has only signed one. Even if the initial intentions are good, they will always change over time.”

Although she was talking about a contract with the dragon race, Yun Wei understood that she was implying something else.

Catherine asked, "There seems to be a poem from your Jade City that perfectly describes this. Do you know which one?"

As luck would have it, Yun Wei happened to know this.

He looked at the other person quietly and answered in a clear and resonant voice: "The Book of Songs says: 'Everything has a beginning, but few things have a good end.' All things begin well, but few end well."

What was his original intention in signing the contract with Isaac?

Yun Wei felt utterly bewildered.

If even the initial intention is bad, how can one expect a good end?

"I've learned a lot." Catherine clapped her hands slowly, her demeanor dignified and elegant.

Even though she was sitting right next to me, it felt as if I were on a supreme throne.

Yun Wei was lost in his own thoughts when he heard the other person add, "If you leave Isa, I can issue a special decree allowing the Bili people to open a new port on the east bank of the Southern Forest."

For her, this compensation was already quite good.

She was absolutely unwilling to suffer a loss, and the reason she made such a concession was only because of Isaac.

Yun Wei knew that the other party had countless ways to forcibly dissolve the flawed contract between him and Isaac.

Bili City is currently undergoing changes, which sounds like a good deal.

Only by agreeing can he reassure the other party.

So he lowered his eyes, smiled and agreed, "That would be best, it's a deal."

...

The two did not continue their conversation for long, as Isaac soon arrived.

The other person just walked in clumsily, like a clueless young man.

Even though the ceiling is obviously very high, it seems a bit low now.

Isaac smiled innocently, "We haven't seen you for so long, what have you been talking about? Grandmother, you didn't make things difficult for Yunwei, did you?"

Catherine corrected him with a look of disdain, "Call me Your Majesty. How could I make things difficult for him? There are just a few of Bili's poems that I don't quite understand, so I'm just asking him for help."

Isaac immediately gave a thumbs up, "Your Majesty truly has discerning eyes and has found the right person."

He glanced at Yun Wei discreetly, raised an eyebrow, and asked him a question with his eyes.

Seeing Isaac's resolute eyes, Yun Wei suddenly felt a lump in his throat.

But he managed to control his expression and nodded calmly.

He was willing to cooperate with Catherine's performance.

Because they both deeply loved Isaac.

The three chatted casually for a while, and then Isaac casually found an excuse to bring Yun Wei up.

Empress Catherine sat there, watching the two leave, her smile kind and dignified.

...

The two stood in front of the teleportation array outside the castle. If nothing unexpected happened, this teleportation array was only visible to the two of them.

Once the sun sets, everything in this space will be reset to its original state.

Those banished to the rift of time, even after eight hundred years, live in a constant, repetitive cycle.

"Yun, are you alright? Did Grandmother really ask you about poetry?" Isaac asked worriedly.

Yun Wei nodded and replied quietly, "Yes, she asked me about the 'Dà Yǐn' (大雅·荡). The 'Fēng' (风), 'Yá' (雅), and 'Shōng' (颂) are the three categories in the Book of Songs. The 'Yá' (雅) is further divided into the 'Dà Yá' (大雅) and the 'Xiao Yá' (小雅), which are court music, distinct from folk songs and temple hymns."

Sure enough, the knight, who didn't like reading, shook his head with amusement. "You startled me. You don't look too good."

"Hmm." Yun Wei casually made up a reason, "Because I haven't figured out how to get them out yet."

He still remembered Isaac's request.

Isaac was indeed taken aback for a moment, then put his arm around his shoulder. "Don't worry about it, I'm fine. I'm already very content to be able to see them again."

They both looked at the setting sun, which was about to disappear behind the mountains, and stood silently.

Yun Wei quietly raised her eyes and glanced at the other person's still cool and handsome profile. Her depressed mood seemed to improve a lot.

When they returned to the real world, they found that almost no time had passed.

However, that wasn't enough for them to go anywhere else to play.

"What should I do with the rest of the time?" Isaac scratched his head, looking troubled, but his gaze fell on Yun Wei, as if he would do whatever the other said without hesitation.

Yun Wei laughed and suggested, "Could you cook for me tonight? I'm missing your cooking."

Isaac pretended to think for a moment, then finally grinned and showed off his white teeth.

"It is my greatest honor to have you thinking of me."
