In the suddenly stretched timeline, everything seems to be gradually going off track.
Yun Wei didn't want to get entangled with that stupid and boring steward any longer, so he instantly cast "Cloud Mist" and "Intimidation" in hopes of gaining a brief moment of peace.
Judging from the noise that finally stopped behind him, he must have succeeded.
However, what Yun Wei was unaware of was what Butler George was going through at that very moment—
Alchemy City is often shrouded in fog, something George Green, who grew up in the city, should have been quite used to.
He was just an ordinary person who loved to take advantage of small things, but he was fortunate enough to become a hunting dog kept by the Liujin family.
But the sudden appearance of the thick fog, so dense that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, reminded him of the worst day of his life.
It was a cloudy day. While he was busy in the kitchen, he heard a strange noise coming from the study upstairs. The noise was loud, and it sounded like a chair had fallen over.
There was that one sound, and then silence returned, as if it were his imagination.
At that time, he was indignant about the injustice done to him, so he didn't pay much attention to it.
He clearly wanted to be assigned to work under the eldest son of the Liujin family, but despite his efforts to bribe officials, he was ultimately relegated to the position of the most mediocre second son.
Unlike the ambitious eldest son and the low-key and composed third son, the second son, Tyr Liujin, was quite mediocre, like an anomaly that had mutated from the Liujin family.
He's too sentimental.
The other party even married a commoner woman, so the ailing and bedridden patriarch, in a fit of anger, stripped him of his inheritance rights.
Although it's obvious to anyone with eyes that the position of the next family head will undoubtedly belong to the eldest young master, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Disqualifying someone from inheritance is actually more of an insult.
This is the second most severe punishment, after expulsion, for an established family like the Liujin family.
But the second young master acted as if nothing was wrong, spending all his time with his family.
George Green thought to himself that he was really unlucky to be assigned to work under such a mediocre man.
At that time, although he was middle-aged, he still harbored ambitions.
But cruel reality seemed to mock him coldly, saying, "Look, birds of a feather flock together. You, so mediocre, are only fit to work under the mediocre Tyr Rugkin."
But humans have never blamed their misfortunes on themselves.
So he harbored resentment and dawdled over his tasks, preferring to linger in the kitchen, venting his frustrations with almost boundless malice in the food served to his master.
As mentioned earlier, it was a very gloomy day. When his laborer finally couldn't take it anymore, he picked up the candlestick, bent down and climbed the low, narrow stairs with heavy steps.
When he arrived outside Tyr's study, he keenly noticed that the entire environment was shrouded in an eerie fog, so thick that one could not see their own hand in front of their face.
His first thought was that the house was on fire, and just as he was about to shout, he suddenly smelled a strong stench of blood.
Although it was the first time he had ever smelled this scent, George Green found himself strangely familiar with it…
That faint, metallic smell, just like the smell of money, was his favorite scent.
So he boldly pushed open the study door and walked in as if no one else was there.
There seemed to be a magic circle drawn inside the house, and the thick fog in the corridor mysteriously dissipated inside the room.
Standing at the door, George discovered a horrific scene inside: Tyr and the red-haired woman lay dying in pools of blood.
The beautiful woman seemed to have died, her head slumped limply in the young master's arms. But Tyr was still alive, for he saw a faint light in her emerald eyes.
George couldn't help but suspect that it was the poor woman's desperate act of shielding her husband that caused the attack, which should have been fatal, to deviate from its intended course.
He looked closely and saw that thick blood was gushing out of the wound on Tyr's throat.
It was obvious that the other person had damaged their vocal cords, rendering them unable to make a sound, leaving only painful groans in their throat.
But when Tyr noticed him, a fierce will to survive ignited in his eyes; George swore that the other man's gaze was brighter than the moon in Alchemy City at night.
The other person stretched out their finger and pointed forcefully at the top of the bookshelf.
Following the other person's instructions, George walked to the bookshelf. He stood on tiptoe and took down the item on the top shelf, only to find that it was a golden scroll.
Even though he knew nothing about magic, he knew that gold represented the element of light, and this scroll could definitely save young master Tyr.
He shakily untied the ribbon binding the scroll, and just as he was about to unroll it, his gaze was drawn to the gold leaves scattered in the pool of blood.
He suddenly remembered that in the northern kingdom of Blackthorn, not far from the capital, in the Reflecting Water Marsh, there was an assassin organization called "Bloodstained Leaves".
This organization is quite strange; they'll do anything for you as long as you pay them.
But it would be a grave mistake to say they were greedy. They loved to melt down their rewards into thin slices and mercilessly sprinkle them on the blood of their victims.
Rather than being greedy, it's more accurate to say they were indulging in a desecrating pleasure of life.
But George had never seen so much gold before.
Everyone says the Liujin family is extremely wealthy, but only the servants within it know how stingy and inhumane this family is.
Even if he worked like a slave for the Liujin family his whole life, he would never earn that much gold.
The gold, shimmering quietly in the bloodstains, seemed to be beckoning to him silently.
Then, George suddenly changed his mind.
He slowly walked to the fireplace and placed the exquisite scroll on the roaring flames, letting the fire slowly devour it.
Then, under the desperate and angry gaze of young master Tyr, he squatted on the ground expressionlessly, picked up the tiny gold leaves one by one with his handkerchief, wiped them clean, and put them into his pocket.
He slowly closed the door, tiptoed back to the kitchen, and hid all the gold leaves.
Then he gently tossed the blood-stained handkerchief into the equally burning fire in the stove.
He went back upstairs, walked through the still-lingering thick fog without changing his expression, but changed direction and came to the young master's room.
The young master is named Sid, and his hair is an unusual golden-red color. But to the Liujin family, it is like an indelible mark of humiliation, reminding them that their most prized noble bloodline has been defiled by filthy commoners.
George discovered that the other person was sitting quietly by the window, reading a book that was far beyond the comprehension of a child of that age.
No one knows how the master was bewitched by this child, actually giving all the rare books he had treasured for many years and passed down from the first dynasty to this grandson who should have felt disgusted.
Therefore, George has always believed that the other party is a born devil.
Upon seeing him enter, the "devil" put down the book he was holding and picked up the indigo wide-brimmed hat that was placed to the side—
George recognized the hat; it was knitted by the red-haired woman.
The indigo dye came from the distant Duchy of Bethlehem, and he had gone to great lengths to purchase it.
“George.”
The "devil" wearing the hat greeted him coldly, but his emerald green eyes were still lingering on the book placed to the side. "Is it time to eat?"
George immediately put on a gentle smile and gently took the other's small hand. "Yes, young master Sid."
"Let's go and call the master and madam together."
