Chapter 59 Fog

"Are you sure you want to do this now, here?" Isaac took Yun Wei's hands and placed them in his own palms, gently rubbing them. "Well, of course I have no objection, but I think it might be better tonight. When it's just the two of us."

His gaze toward Yun Wei remained open, resolute, loyal, affectionate, and tender.

Upon hearing this, Yun Wei suddenly realized something and quickly looked around.

His gaze passed over Isaac's right arm and landed on Vivian and Xie Mulang standing together not far away, looking in their direction with interest. When the blonde girl saw him looking over, she immediately lowered her head in her signature, incredibly shy manner.

Yun Wei: "..." He looked at Xie Mulang, who was standing with his arms crossed, giving him a teasing smile.

Yun Wei responded with a polite smile, but her ears were burning.

Well, he should have realized it sooner: the only good kid was Bale, who was dozing against the tree stump!

He turned his head to look in another direction. To Isaac's left rear were the rear guards responsible for "escorting" them. The previously arrogant guards were now noticeably more docile, and after meeting his gaze, they were the first to look away in a panic.

"Was my voice a little too loud just now?" Yun Wei looked up, finally turning to the servant in front of him, and asked with some concern. He was worried that his conversation with Al might have been overheard by others.

From his perspective, Isaac's jawline was full and strong, and the veins on his neck were full of powerful tension, making him look very noble in the cold autumn light, which made him lose himself in thought.

"It should be alright. The distance is far enough, and none of them are good at using wind elements," Isaac comforted in a low voice, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down like hard stone grinding against Yun Wei's heart.

Yun Wei felt a strange longing welling up in his heart, as if a simple hug and kiss could no longer satisfy him. He felt a little craving and a little itchy.

He buried his face in Isaac's arms, his eyes darkening, and said in a muffled voice, "Then let's wait until tonight."

...

Soon, everyone's rest time was over, and the group had to continue their journey into the valley ahead.

Along the way, you can see many broken handcarts, fallen fruits and vegetables, ashes and broken wooden sticks. The farmland on both sides of the road is in the midst of autumn harvest, but the unharvested crops are growing mixed with weeds, making it look extremely desolate.

The group eventually stopped in front of the valley, where a strange, thick fog had appeared, making the area appear gray and eerie.

Just then, Yun Wei heard a soldier holding a warhammer mutter to himself, "Oh, Lord of Light, please help us! I wonder what the situation is like inside."

He couldn't help but bow to the other man and quietly asked, "Sir Knight, is this our destination?"

The soldier being questioned by Yun Wei was named Quentin. He was just a trainee knight and used to be a relatively experienced adventurer. Two months ago, the Holy See suddenly wanted to expand the Knights of Light Order in large numbers, and like all other adventurers, he signed up with a try-it-out mentality. Unexpectedly, he was lucky enough to pass the test.

The Knights were strictly hierarchical, and through his upbringing, he developed a bad habit of looking down on ordinary people. He assumed that these innocent students in front of him were at most level three professionals and certainly didn't have any titles or ranks, so he naturally treated them with disdain and arrogance throughout the journey.

But during his rest, he was surprised to see that Captain Al, who was at the height of his power in the Moonflower City Knights, was being lectured by a seemingly ordinary mage to the point of being unable to lift his head.

Only then did he belatedly realize that these were not ordinary students, but students from Lunagal Academy in Moonflower City.

Oh, Lord of Light, bless this place! This is the Lunagal Magic and Martial Arts Academy!

The students inside are probably all descendants of the most influential families on the entire continent... If anything goes wrong with this operation, Quentin felt a cold sweat soaking through his barely-fitting armor, and he felt that his life was probably over.

And wasn't this green-clad youth who politely inquired of him the very same magician who had just scolded Captain Al like a chick? Quentin knew that the other party's politeness was merely a matter of noble aloofness and had nothing to do with him.

He quickly lowered his voice and hurriedly replied, "Your Excellency, I am Quentin, the apprentice knight. You are right, this valley is our destination. This is Apperfield, famous for its apples, applesauce, and apple cider vinegar..."

Yun Wei wasn't surprised at all by the other person's change in attitude; he'd seen far too many people like that. Taking advantage of a pause in the other person's speech, he promptly interrupted their rambling and asked, "How many villages are there inside? Have all the villagers been evacuated to Moonflower City?"

Upon hearing Yun Wei's question, Quentin fell silent. After a moment's thought, he replied, "Apperfield has a total of one town and six villages, with a total population of about 80,000."

"We evacuated the largest town, Aper, and the two villages closest to the valley mouth to the outskirts of Moonflower City in time. The remaining four villages, along with nearby estates and settlements, probably have more than six thousand villagers."

It sounded like a newly established settlement, and Yun Wei breathed a sigh of relief. What he was really concerned about was the size of the tombs inside, since he assumed that the enemy lurking in the fog was a necromancer like himself.

He nodded and continued to ask, "Has this valley always been shrouded in such thick fog as we see here?" With just one glance, he was certain that the fog in front of him was definitely not the necromancer's 'Hidden Fog' or 'Poisonous Miasma,' nor was it the water magic's 'Cloud and Mist,' which made him feel somewhat uneasy again.

After all, the eerie, surging fog always reminded him of the Abyss Apostles he had encountered in the dark, sunless underground.

Quentin sighed, his grip on the warhammer tightening, and replied anxiously, "No, sir, this is exactly what I was worried about... When we left this morning, there was no such damned fog here at all."

Hearing this, Yun Wei stopped beating around the bush and asked directly, "So, do you know what exactly happened there, I mean, in Apperfield?"

This involves a highly confidential part. In the past, Quentin would have kept his mouth shut, but now he realizes that his future is bleak, and the other party is likely to be a big shot that he can't afford to offend.

He cautiously looked around, then leaned closer to Yun Wei and lowered his voice, saying, "I don't really know what happened. I just heard... that someone in a village suddenly went berserk and started attacking the surrounding villagers, and then more and more people started going berserk too..."

Upon hearing this, Yun Wei's heart skipped a beat.

The reason was simple: the scene described by the other party was all too familiar to him, who came from the apocalypse.
