Chapter 27 Water Method

The exhausting class is finally over.

Yun Wei lingered lazily in his seat, waiting for the other students to leave first. He wearily pinched the bridge of his nose.

He heard footsteps behind him; it was Isaac who had come to his side.

"Yun, shall we go for a stroll in the city? Vivian said she's booked a nice afternoon tea." Vivian wanted to keep the invitation she'd made on the spur of the moment yesterday morning, and he did indeed need to have a detailed discussion with Vivian about the Rose family.

The former knight commander remains young even after thousands of years. His tall figure blocks the sunlight streaming through the window, casting a shadow over Yun Wei.

Yun Wei glanced at Isaac against the light, unable to see the expression on his face, and said calmly, "I won't go."

"I was planning to go to the library this afternoon to copy down some water-based spells. You know, I still only know water control and water arrows, which is really unacceptable."

Isaac didn't think much of it and agreed, "Alright then, I really don't like libraries either. To be precise, I don't really like reading; I almost fell asleep in class just now." He still preferred traveling around for adventure and exhilarating battles.

He had indeed dozed off earlier, and when he woke up, he saw Yun Wei being called on by the teacher to answer a question.

His master spoke clearly and had a loud voice. Even just looking at his slender and upright back, he could imagine the focused expression on the other man's face as he held the book.

Even Mr. Rieu, who had initially had a stern face, eventually showed a particularly satisfied and approving expression.

But he was still a little worried about leaving Yun Wei alone at the academy. "Then I'll go and come back quickly, and come to the library to find you around dusk?"

“Isaac.” Yun Wei looked up and forced a smile. “You’re only twenty years old, why are you acting like an old man? You don’t need to worry about me all the time, I’m not that fragile.”

"Besides, as a gentleman, you should accompany Miss Vivian around the city. She's been chased by people all the way to Red Moon by herself, so she must have a lot of things she wants to buy."

Ha, "Stupid Straight Blue." Yun Wei's eyes shimmered. He coldly labeled the other person in his heart, but he didn't feel happy.

Isaac nodded in agreement, saying, "You're right, I didn't think it through."

"Hurry up, others have been waiting for you outside the classroom." Yun Wei urged impatiently, his eyes catching a violet figure lingering at the classroom door. "I can take care of my own lunch and dinner. I can manage."

"Alright, I'm off then." Isaac patted Yun Wei on the shoulder, whistled, and walked out the door. "See you later, Yun."

"See you later."

The summer sun shone again on Yun Wei's profile, adding to his unspeakable irritation. In the dimly lit classroom, Yun Wei turned around, as if torturing himself, silently watching the two figures gradually disappear.

...

The library was also located in the center of the academy, presumably to accommodate the needs of students from all grades. Yun Wei walked along, lost in thought, not noticing a stack of books suddenly appearing around the corner.

"Splash—"

He collided head-on with the person who suddenly appeared, and the neatly stacked pile of books, about half a person's height, was scattered all over the ground.

"sorry!"

"sorry!"

Two voices rang out simultaneously, both apologizing to each other in unison. The tense atmosphere immediately eased considerably.

Yun Wei looked closely and saw that the other person was wearing a second-year academy uniform, so he must be a senior who was a year ahead of him.

Her golden-red curly hair looked unkempt and somewhat sloppy, but her bright green eyes behind her glasses were still quite pretty.

He quickly squatted down to help the other person pick up the books that had fallen to the ground.

"Thank you, junior." After tidying up, the senior struggled a bit while carrying a stack of books taller than his head. "My name is Sid, and I really owe you a lot today."

Yun Wei quickly waved his hand, admitting that he had been daydreaming and that he was partly responsible.

"Hi senior, my name is Claude. Do you really need my help moving this?"

"No, no, that's already too much trouble for you. There's a barrier here, so we can't use spatial items. I'll just put everything into my ring after I finish registering." The senior student named Sid smiled shyly. "Ahem, I haven't finished my report yet, I have to go now, bye!"

Yun Wei quickly made way for him, saying, "Bye-bye."

He watched with concern as the other person, whose body was even weaker than his own, carried the rickety books toward the registration desk. He only looked away after the other person successfully piled the books on the registration counter.

He shook his head, repeatedly telling himself he had to concentrate, and then walked deeper into the library.

...

The term "meter reading" is a common slang term used by magicians.

A mage's energy is limited; most of their time is spent nurturing the Branch of Time within their body, carving magical runes, and learning various spellcasting techniques. Mastering a spell requires years of practice.

If one wants to cast magic without lengthy chants, one must practice hundreds or thousands of times so that the magic runes on the Branch of Time can quickly resonate with the external environment.

However, there are too many spells to master, making it difficult for a single mage to become proficient in all of them. This raises the issue of prioritization.

Therefore, whenever they break through to a new level, magicians will refer to their spellbooks and, based on their existing knowledge of magic, select suitable spells to learn, mastering them in the shortest possible time.

This process of quickly learning and mastering new magic often requires copying spells from spellbooks for subsequent practice. Therefore, magicians on the continent eventually came to use this most representative action, "copying spellbooks," to refer to the entire process of learning new magic.

Most of the upperclassmen in the library seemed to be in a hurry, with indifferent expressions.

Yun Wei was happy to have some peace and quiet. He found a corner and slowly began to read a water-based low-to-mid-level magic tutorial written by the Rose family.

The following is a list of water-based level 1 to 4 spells:

Level 1: Water Control, Water Arrow;

Level 2: Shield of Water, Bind of Water, Healing of Water, Chain of Water;

Tier 3: Water Ball, Acid Splash, Mud Swamp, Cloud Mist;

Level 4: Sweet Rain Technique, Gentle Water Protection, Delayed Rain, Water Puppet.

Wei had already mastered the first-level magic of Cloud Cloud through Isaac's "Apprentice's Guide".

He quickly went through the descriptions of the spells and checked off the three spells in turn: 'Water Shield', 'Water Healing', and 'Cloud Mist'.

Water Shield and Water Healing are the signature spells of water mages. Water mages who are proficient in these spells have terrifying endurance and are very difficult to kill instantly.

For example, Vivian relied on the "Water Shield" last night to withstand the simultaneous attacks of four or five gargoyles and held out until Yun Wei and Isaac arrived.

As for the Cloud and Mist Technique...

Yun Wei has already tasted the benefits of Poisonous Miasma and Concealing Mist. Although the water-based "Cloud Mist" has no corrosive ability, it has a larger range and better healing effect.

Then comes level four magic—

Yun Wei glanced at them and saw that Sweet Rain was a group healing spell, Gentle Water Protection was a huge energy shield, and Slowing Rain was an upgraded version of Mud Swamp Spell. He felt that none of these would be very useful to him.

Because he specializes in necromancy, casting water magic requires twice the mana. With his mid-level fourth-rank magic power, the mana stored in the Branch of Time was completely depleted after casting a fourth-rank spell.

Then he can lie completely flat and start hand-to-hand combat.

Yun Wei shook his head, choosing to temporarily abandon these spells. However, his gaze lingered for a moment when it swept over the 'Water Puppet'.

No matter when, he remained lonely, ultimately because his heart was lonely.

He wanted a creature that could stay by his side and never leave, even if it was just an elemental puppet created by magic.

So, almost as if possessed, he checked the box next to the "Water Puppet" spell.

Yun Wei, a level four water-based archmage, has the following water-based spell list:

Shaping spells - Water control;

Summoning spell – Water Golem;

Support spells: Water Healing, Water Shield, Cloud Mist;

Offensive spell – Water Arrow.

This aligns with his previous decision, made after discussing with Isaac, to become a water mage: as long as he doesn't get instantly killed, that's fine. And if it really comes down to a life-or-death battle, Yun Wei won't need to worry about his identity as a necromancer.

You should know that as an ultimate academic genius who has been practicing diligently for five years, he has copied down all the entries for necromancy!

The plan is complete.

Yun Wei took out his black-covered book, turned on the scanning function, and began to carefully copy down the magic runes line by line.

...

After choosing his spell, Yun Wei returned to his room in the dormitory and began practicing.

Although it's called a double room, it's actually a small suite with two bedrooms and a living room, with his and Isaac's bedrooms being separate. And the bedroom itself is also an important battleground for mages.

It should be noted that only high-ranking seventh-level archmages build their own mage towers as powerful fortresses for casting spells.

Mages below level seven spend years meditating in their bedrooms, where the elemental concentration and mental fluctuations are most compatible with them. Therefore, there is a saying on the continent of Zhuyuan that sounds rather bizarre: "You can never defeat a mage in your bedroom."

Yun Wei relaxed and sat cross-legged on the bed, beginning his meditation. He floated and wandered happily in his own mental sea.

He was to carve patterns representing water magic onto the fifty-four slender branches of time of a mid-level fourth-rank mage and arrange them in a specific order.

The basic rune of the water element is different from the "noose" of the undead element. It consists of three parallel wavy lines, resembling a horizontal "川" (river) character.

As the azure magic patterns gradually faded into the gray branches, Yun Wei's affinity for and understanding of the water element subtly improved.

When he opened his eyes again, he found that night had fallen outside the window, and stars were twinkling mischievously in the distant sky. It must not be midnight yet, because the eerie fog had not yet appeared.

He has already learned the basic spells "Water Shield" and "Water Healing".

He yawned, preparing to go to the toilet and then go to sleep. Given the medieval architectural style, the bathhouse and washroom were communal, located on one side of the main hall on each floor.

But when he opened the door, he saw Isaac standing in the living room with his back to him, shirtless and sweating profusely.
