Isaac cast a questioning glance at Yun Wei, his gaze serene, fair, and resolute, radiating positive energy like sunshine.
Yun Wei immediately understood his thoughts.
He turned his head, surveying the deep alley, his eyes dark and unfathomable. Sunlight, passing over the stone arches and sweeping across the eaves, landed just at his feet, forming a boundary.
In the past, Yun Wei thought he would have quietly left, as if nothing had happened. After all, in the apocalypse, the cheapest thing is pity, and self-preservation is the only truth for surviving to the next day.
But Isaac's clear gaze now felt like a heavy shackle on his heart. This man, betrayed by the Lord of Light, even sealed away for centuries, still retained his inherent integrity…
It is enviable.
Envious to the point that Yun Wei couldn't bear to train or assimilate the other into a selfish and self-serving creature like himself.
This is like... a kind of blasphemy.
He could blaspheme the supreme Lord of Light without any psychological burden, but when the object was Isaac, he hesitated and wavered.
He couldn't bear it in the end.
So Yun Wei spoke slowly and casually, saying in a nonchalant tone, "Let's go, Isaac, let's go take a look."
...
At the end of the alley, neither of the shops on either side were open, and the ground was covered with fallen leaves and discarded debris. Sunlight couldn't reach this place, but Vivian, in her panic, had stumbled upon this dead end.
"Help! Is anyone there? Is anyone there?!" she shouted, her eyes filled with fear and disgust as she watched the three men approaching.
The middle-aged man at the head of the group was also dressed as a warrior. He stopped ten paces away and bowed respectfully. "Miss, please come back with us. You cannot disobey; this is His Highness Alejandra's order."
“No!” The blonde girl bit her lip stubbornly, her blue eyes shining. “I won’t go back with you. Please let me go, Nafuli! Just tell Alejo that I’ve entered the Lunagal Magic and Martial Arts Academy.”
She had had enough of the past and didn't want to go back to her cage. Tomorrow was the first day of school at Lunagal Academy, and she didn't want all her hard work to be in vain.
“You’re being too willful, Miss.” The man in the cloak remained unmoved. He clapped his hands and directed the two mages behind him to step forward. “Go ahead, Kevin, Locke. Be careful—don’t hurt Miss.”
“Yes, Lord Nafuli.” The two mages bowed and stepped forward, beginning their chants simultaneously. As the azure magic circle shimmered, tiny water columns formed chains, slowly flowing towards the girl.
They were all water mages, using the level 2 water spell "Chain of Water".
"I won't let you succeed." The blonde girl took out an ancient-looking staff from her spatial ring and stood it quietly in front of her. The deep blue magic crystal at the top shone brightly even in the dark.
"Water Shield!" With her soft shout, a curtain of water formed in front of her, blocking the chains that were winding their way from the other end.
She was also a high-level water-based mage.
The two sides were deadlocked, and the water elements collided and entangled violently, causing water to splash everywhere in the ancient dark alley. The sewage that washed away the dust soaked the rocky ground and flowed into a dirty little river.
“Alas, Miss, you should face reality.” Nafuli sighed, taking a step forward and slowly approaching the girl who was casting a spell. His gleaming leather boots stepped into the puddle, splashing up ripples.
"Huh?" Suddenly, he turned his head sharply, and a water jet grazed his face and hit the flowerpot next to him, shattering it.
Nafuli turned around and saw two figures, one tall and one short, appear at the alley entrance. Both were young, and judging from their attire, they were just ordinary commoners.
Nafuli looked at the man who looked like a mage; the water arrow from earlier must have been his doing.
"Water Arrow Technique," a level one water-based spell. He assumed the other person was just an apprentice passing by.
"I advise you two not to meddle in other people's business." He warned sternly, his face stern. "I can forgive your earlier offense."
"Hey, sir. What kind of skill is it for three people to bully a little girl?" Isaac stepped in front of Yun Wei, took out the heavy sword he had just bought from the weapon shop from his spatial storage, held it in one hand, and said in an unfriendly tone, "Let her go."
Hearing Isaac's address to the middle-aged man, Yun Wei couldn't help but chuckle. He silently made a hand seal, subtly unleashing his spiritual power to envelop the entire battlefield.
"What arrogance! Since you refuse to listen to reason, then don't blame me for being impolite." Nafuri drew a rapier from under his cloak and launched an attack on Isaac as soon as he finished speaking.
He is a greatsword master of the wind element, and his greatest skill is using the power of the wind element to launch agile and swift attacks.
His movements were so fast they left afterimages, like an elusive breeze, that he appeared before Isaac in a few flashes. He aimed at Isaac's wrist and swiftly thrust three times.
After all, this was the Red Moon Kingdom, and he didn't want to cause any deaths or create more trouble. A confident smile appeared on Nafuli's face.
But soon, the smile on his face froze.
"Clang, clang, clang."
Three clear metallic clanging sounds rang out in succession. The tall man simply raised his greatsword slightly, and he blocked all of his attacks.
Nafori froze, staring in astonishment at Isaac's sickly appearance. He then realized that he couldn't fathom the other's true strength at all.
Yun Wei, who had witnessed all of this, turned his gaze to the two mages who were still fighting with the girl and curled his lip.
The water arrow spell seemed a bit too powerful; these two fragile mages who had their backs exposed to him were really underestimating him.
Unfortunately, he had very little water magic at his disposal, and it was all taught to him by Isaac. Apart from water arrow magic, he only had water control magic.
Yun Wei thought for a moment, then manipulated the water sphere that had condensed in the water to slowly rise into the air. His fourth-level, second-tier magic power was enough to cast fifty-four first-level spells, and so a water sphere that grew larger and larger began to form above the alley.
"Locke, what's that kid doing behind us?" After shattering Vivian's water shield with his chains, Kevin noticed unusual elemental fluctuations above their heads. He shouted to his companion, "You deal with that kid. I'll capture the young lady, and then we'll head together to support Lord Nafori. Hurry!"
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that not far away, Nafuli was gradually losing ground in close combat.
Although his opponent's moves were very simple, merely raising and lowering his greatsword, Nafuri was visibly retreating further and further as he parried, which made the two mages increasingly impatient.
The taciturn mage named Locke gave Yun Wei a long, cold look before unleashing a water arrow. The azure water arrow shot from his fingertips like venom from a viper, hurtling straight towards the thin mage's face.
Yun Wei calmly injected the ninth stream of magic power into the water sphere in the sky before taking a step to the side.
The amount of water summoned by casting the Water Control spell nine times at once is far greater than the total amount of water summoned by casting the spell nine times separately. This is because the channel for magical output is unobstructed, reducing the loss during the initiation and termination of the spell.
The current scene was also wet due to the entanglement of the three high-level water mages, which was extremely suitable for casting water magic. As a result, the water sphere in mid-air was now about the size of a double bed.
"Thud!" A sharp water arrow struck the brick wall behind him, leaving a shallow dent. Yun Wei stared expressionlessly at the stunned fat mage before him, then slowly raised the index finger of his left hand. On his slender knuckle, a spatial ring was shimmering faintly.
Mid- to low-level magic is mostly projectile-oriented, relying on mental and magical power to activate, and its power is actually far weaker than the firearms of the previous life. Although Yun Wei doesn't have much experience in magical combat, he has accumulated a lot of combat experience in the apocalypse. Moreover, under his powerful mental strength, the opponent's attack is like a weak butterfly, slowly fluttering its wings.
But to everyone's surprise, Yun Wei simply took out an umbrella from his spatial ring.
He gently untied the strap on the side of the umbrella, letting the tip trace a graceful arc in the air, before calmly pressing the switch.
As Yun Wei opened the umbrella in his hand, the water sphere in the sky lost its magical support and transformed into a giant water bullet, hurtling towards them under the influence of gravity.
"Whoosh—"
The two mages were immediately drenched from head to toe. Under the enormous amount of water, they could only close their eyes and shiver as they were washed by the icy water.
When Kevin opened his eyes again, he saw the black-haired, black-eyed mage standing expressionlessly in front of him, holding up the closed umbrella in his hand.
After two dull thuds, the two fragile mages collapsed to the ground. Yun Wei looked up at the terrified blonde girl, who was gripping her wand tightly, looking as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.
The other party has clearly misunderstood something.
"I just knocked them both out," Yun Wei explained after thinking for a moment. He hadn't used much force, and the two would wake up soon, so he kindly reminded them, "Let's go. Don't come to such a remote place when you're alone next time."
"Th-thank you." The blonde girl put away her wand and gave a graceful bow. She carefully walked around the two fallen men and headed out of the alley, glancing once more at Isaac at the other end.
Just then, Isaac also looked in their direction. When he saw the girl's face clearly, he was visibly stunned.
Yun Wei took in Isaac's expression. He watched this scene silently from the side, slowly starting a timer in his mind.
one.
two.
three.
A full three seconds.
Yun Wei's heart sank slowly, like a drowning fish.
Taking advantage of the three-second gap, Nafori launched a desperate final attack on Isaac. However, the knight, having regained his senses, easily parried the attack and gracefully countered with a strike of his own.
The broad blade, slashing horizontally, easily sent him flying. He landed like a sack of potatoes, slamming lightly into a pile of abandoned wooden crates in the corner, kicking up a cloud of dust with the sound of cracking wood.
This very peaceful battle has finally come to an end.
The blonde girl had already walked away shyly before Isaac could approach.
Yun Wei's expression remained indifferent. He stood amidst the mess of water stains, quietly watching the followers approach him.
He's different from you, Yun Wei. He told himself this in his heart.
Don't pour too much emotion into him; it will only make him disliked.
Your relationship is doomed to fail.
