Chapter 349 Pastoral

When Yun Wei landed on the ground, he still felt dizzy and disoriented.

Just then, everyone gathered around.

Koro said, "Sir, we just went out to check, and the cellar is still intact. We'll have the ascetics break up the black mud covering it, so we should be able to get through the winter without any problems."

In the backward Middle Ages, cellars were the most natural icehouses, where the extremely low temperatures allowed mountains of food to be stored for a long time.

In some exceptionally hot territories, people even work and live underground.

"Yes, prioritize food and fuel." After saying that, Yun Wei swallowed hard. The inexplicable dizziness was still lingering, driving him to walk forward aimlessly.

“Alright.” Koro, oblivious to the lord’s strange behavior, continued rambling on, “However, the huts we stayed in before were mostly crushed by the black snow, and the planks have been soaked in dirt, so they’re probably unusable…”

"I understand. Let me think about it first." Yun Wei had no choice but to speak, temporarily interrupting the other party.

He rummaged through his belongings and found a spatial artifact, handing it to the other person. "Keep this spatial ring for now. It has five cubic meters of space inside. You might find it useful for distributing food."

Koro was immediately stunned.

He then noticed that the lord's expression was quite ominous.

The other person's already pale skin lost its color, making their dark eyebrows and eyes appear even sharper, like some kind of fragile object that would break at the slightest touch.

He quickly looked at the silent knight beside the other man, only to see Isaac gently shake his head at him. So he quickly gripped the ring in his palm and led the men toward the cellar.

However, no sooner had the village official left than the gray-haired Hamel approached again.

This great sage of the elves also had long, slender hands and feet, even more delicate than those of the dragons.

This makes his coarse linen clothes look rather comical.

"Now that the black snow has stopped, I must take my leave as promised," he said tenderly, completely ignoring the unfriendly expression on the knight's face beside him. "Yunwei, I truly hope to see you again in the future."

Yun Wei was hanging his head, struggling to fight off his physical discomfort, and had no time to pay attention to the two's commotion.

He waved dismissively and said politely, "Goodbye."

Hamel smiled and said goodbye in the Elven language.

It was a rather ancient language, similar to the aristocratic language of the First Dynasty, but lighter and faster, like singing a melodious song.

But Yun Wei suddenly stopped. "Hamer, please wait a moment."

Almost the instant the Elvish voice rang out, the mage felt a tremor deep within his undead realm.

It's important to know that the necromancer's space is a relatively stable space created within their mental sea by the necromancer.

This feeling is unfamiliar and terrifying.

It's as if you've suddenly been told that a living creature has appeared inside your stomach.

He frowned and began to examine his own space, trying to trace the source of the tremor that had just made his heart race.

This was supposed to be an extremely short process.

But in a flash, Isaac had already grabbed Hamel by the collar and tightened his grip on the man's throat. "What did you just say?"

The already fragile fibers could not withstand the rage of the furious knight, and the sound of tearing silk immediately rang out. At the same time, Yun Wei's hoarse voice also rang out, "Isa, let him go."

A flash of grayish-white light disappeared in an instant, and the magician's clasped hands produced a strange object.

Isaac and Hamel turned their heads at the same time and were both stunned.

Lying in Yun Wei's palm was an acorn with a grayish-blue skin, which looked quite ordinary.

This is no ordinary acorn.

This is the Tower of a Thousand Laws!

The knight, who still remembered this, immediately released the sage's collar. The sage, thoroughly annoyed, couldn't help but mutter, "That perverted jealous man—"

But his voice abruptly stopped midway through.

For suddenly, right in front of the three of them, the acorn stood upright.

Then it began its blatant escape, leaping and bounding about.

Without a second thought, Yun Wei instantly cast a wind spell on the sentient fruit, attempting to recapture it.

However, the blue netting, which seemed determined to succeed, landed on the surface of the acorn and broke open as casually as if it were parting the sea.

Yun Wei was about to ask Isaac for help, but Hamel immediately stopped him. The other man's expression changed from frivolous to extremely serious. "Don't disturb it. It is looking for a place to take root. Let's follow it for now."

It is said that the Wood Elves are the most knowledgeable about plants. They are close to nature and are natural green fingers, shepherds and guardians of the forest.

Hamel's words should have carried authority, but Yun Wei quickly sized him up and couldn't help but look on with suspicion.

“It’s not that I necessarily want to catch it,” he argued. “It’s just that I thought planting should at least wait until spring.”

But the acorn paid no heed to their dispute and skipped away.

The opponent leaped straight toward the nearest black wall to the south, easily tearing a hole the size of himself in the surface of the gelatinous substance.

Yun, Wei, and the other two looked at each other in bewilderment.

They stood before an acorn-shaped opening so narrow that even a fist couldn't fit through, watching the acorns happily bouncing on the other side, which was covered in black mud.

Each time it hits the ground, the black snow residue the size of a round table at the point of contact disappears without a trace in an instant.

It looked like a magic trick, but the necromancer's eyesight was excellent.

The black sludge that they couldn't get rid of was simply absorbed by the acorn.

"Quick, after it!" Yun Wei and Isaac exchanged a glance, then immediately took flight, leaping over the wall to chase after the acorn that was jumping faster and faster.

Hamel, who was still in a daze, finally came to his senses.

"Wait for me!"

He shouted, raised his hand and pointed at the black wall in front of him. The green light extending from his wrist instantly materialized into a vine as thick as a bowl, connecting the ground and the top of the black wall.

He quickly climbed the lush path made of verdant vines and chased after the two like the wind.

The three of them caused quite a commotion.

The people closest to that "small window" tremblingly approached the eerie black wall, only to be stunned by the scene on the other side of the wall.

In the pitch-black world, a series of colorful footprints meandered away.

Those footprints are the soil that has been restored to its original state.

At the edges, a soft, oily green hue is faintly visible; it is the most tenacious plants and mosses that have stubbornly poked their heads out in the bleak winter.

...

And so, the acorn hopped and skipped along on its own, followed by Yunwei and Isaac, with Hamel chasing after them, and then about a hundred of the bolder villagers trailing behind.

Until the little acorn stood on a small slope southwest of Resgorod.

In the blink of an eye, the other party darted into the land that Yun Wei had previously designated for Hildegard.

Almost immediately, tender seedlings, as thick as a little finger, broke through the soil in the same spot.

The tender leaves fold in half, yet emit a faint, luminous glow, just like the towering oak tree in Moonflower City.

From the nearby void, a faint, ethereal song could be heard.

It is not a solemn and dignified hymn; its rhythm is light and lively, more like a pastoral song sung casually in the fields.

The black clay melts away as the circle of restoration slowly expands from the sprout, while the sprout grows taller as the circle expands.

It is still growing!

Yunwei and Isaac stood there bewildered, while Hamel, who had caught up, passed them and headed towards the sapling.

"Honestly, if I had told you earlier that it was on you, how could I have dared to be so presumptuous towards you?" the wood elf complained, but her voice was filled with overflowing joy. "Lord Yunwei, this is my father god, Mr. O. Vox!"

After saying that, he didn't wait for Yun and Wei's reaction, but knelt down in front of the sapling with utmost reverence and began to kiss the purified soil.

Yun Wei: "..."

Now, he recalled that cheerful fruit without any difficulty.

He strongly suspected that the "Ou" was not a name at all, but some kind of exclamation.

Perhaps it wasn't Mr. O. Oakes at all, but rather—

Oh! Mr. Oakes!

Isaac, standing to the side, chuckled. "It seems we have no choice but to accept the elves."

"Thank goodness!" Yun Wei sighed as well, "At least my territory is saved."

He almost considered going to the Vatican for help.

He then realized that after chasing the acorns for several miles, and with a thin layer of sweat on his body, his previous discomfort had improved considerably.

“Starting tomorrow morning, you’ll be running with me.” Isaac suddenly said, “Look at you, you even used magic, and you’re already panting.”

Yun Wei couldn't help but feel somewhat embarrassed by this.

Although he had already planned to do so, he couldn't help but remind her, "I just haven't exercised in a long time, I have to take it slow."

“I know what I’m doing.” Isaac laughed again, but this time he took his hand.

They naturally intertwined their fingers.

The other person slowly lowered their head and almost whispered in his ear, "However, you can't use magic tomorrow. I'll be supervising you. Otherwise, I'll arrange a punishment, Fafa."

The warm, humid air filled his ears, yet the other person spoke in a cheerful and innocent tone.

Yun Wei immediately shuddered and warned uncomfortably, "Isaac! Are you crazy? What nonsense are you spouting again..."

“You’re blushing.” Isaac coughed lightly, but his gaze toward him was meaningful.

Yun Wei then noticed that his cheeks were indeed slightly burning.

His body was completely out of his control; after being teased at will, it suddenly started to heat up on its own.

I was both annoyed and irritable.

It's noisy and chaotic.

Damn it.

Yun Wei then realized that it had been a long time since the two of them had been intimate.

But he stubbornly maintained his composure, pretending not to change his expression as he looked at the oak saplings and wood elves not far away.

Hamel was already sitting cross-legged, and he took out a plucked string instrument from his leaf-shaped earring.

It was an instrument made of branches and vines, which could be easily plucked while resting in the crook of one's arm.

As the flowing music began, the gray-haired elf echoed the joyful melody in the void, closing her eyes and humming an unknown tune.

The oak sapling named Vox, rooted in the Tower of a Thousand Laws in Reston, grew rapidly amidst this peaceful and tranquil song, under the watchful eyes of hundreds of people filled with wonder and longing.
