Chapter 2 Cataclysm

"You can see me? How is that possible?!" Fahris couldn't contain his astonishment. He grinned, revealing rows of menacing teeth like those of a lamprey.

The monster's voice was strange and distorted; although it spoke the common language of the Zhuyuan Continent, it sounded more like electronically synthesized noise.

The sound waves that rushed towards him were like a sharp and noisy hurricane, but Yun Wei, with his arms wrapped around his knees, remained quietly huddled in the corner, silently scrutinizing the strange monster hidden under his cloak.

Whether it was the dense array of sharp teeth or the tentacles writhing and thrashing under the cloak, they were things that made his hair stand on end and evoked an instinctive fear.

It was obvious that the monster in front of them...

It is not a species that should exist in this world.

Out of the corner of his eye, Yun Wei glanced at the simple narrative reliefs on both sides of the tomb chamber, and his gaze fell on a monster that looked like a deep-sea octopus. He then recalled the legend of the Radiant Cult.

Lord of Light, Dilis, defeated the dark god from another world.

"So you're mute? Well, you necromancers are always so strange." Seeing that Yun Wei didn't respond, Faheris muttered to himself, "Hey, listen, the Lord of Light is your enemy, and also my enemy, so we can coexist peacefully, can't we?"

The necromancer in front of me, who was terrified, was clearly being given special attention; his shackles were even equipped with magical traps.

While it would be easy to take care of this fragile little mage, it would be a loss if it exposed his own whereabouts.

Fahris glanced warily at the chain on Yun Wei's wrist; the divine runes that flowed with a faint glow on it stung his compound eyes.

After all, he had secretly come to the tomb of the first knight commander behind his master's back, hoping to make some extra money. If anything went wrong and his master found out…

As if contemplating a horrific scene, Fahris shuddered involuntarily, and his previously outstretched tentacles convulsed instinctively.

It's better to avoid trouble. We can kill him after he gets the goods and leaves.

Having made up his mind, he ignored the immobilized little mage and boldly waved the tentacles under his cloak, busying himself in the cramped cell.

In Yun Wei's eyes, the monster in front of him twisted its body and clung to the only heavy coffin in the cell as if it were boneless, and the noisy and ear-piercing screams that kept emanating were more like waves of evil laughter like "hehehehe".

Yun Wei silently observed the monster before him, but his heart was filled with turmoil.

Having previously reached the early stage of level seven magic power, he was certain that the monster before him was only at the early stage of level four. But the feeling it gave him was strangely peculiar…

This sense of distortion is as if he is less the monster itself and more like a reflection in a mirror.

Perhaps the monster that appeared before him was just an avatar!

Yun Wei recalled a fantasy novel he had read in his previous life and naturally made a deduction. Perhaps the monster's true strength was also level six, or even level seven...

However, the guy in front of them who was bluffing was only at the level of a beginner fourth-level cultivator.

He silently sensed the nearly depleted magic power within his body, and without making a sound, began to absorb the rich light elements in the space. The moment the originally peaceful and warm light elements came into contact with his "Branch of Time," which was soaked in necromancy, it was like being scalded by boiling water. Yun Wei pinched his arm tightly to prevent himself from groaning out loud.

He only needs a little bit of magic, just enough to cast a level one spell.

The first-level necromancy spell 'Shape Mimicry' is a very useful creation spell that can gather necromancy power to create objects of various shapes from hard bones.

Although the monster before them appeared ferocious, its attacks were primarily mental, and it was merely an avatar...

Yun Wei narrowed his eyes. With his extremely sharp mental power, he had not missed the killing intent that the monster had inadvertently revealed earlier.

Fahris suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, a long-lost, unfamiliar sensation washing over him and sending shivers down his spine. He quickly twisted his neck twice, and one of his compound eyes snapped open.

The necromancer sat in the corner, eyes lowered, breathing steadily, as if asleep. The knight outside the barrier remained standing straight, still the absolute ruler of the space, as if the unease he had just felt was merely his imagination.

"What are you doing? Don't try anything funny..." he muttered, continuing to focus his energy on breaking the seal on the coffin.

Yun Wei exhaled softly, his thick eyelashes trembling slightly in his half-closed eyes. He silently gripped the sharp bone dagger that had gathered in his palm.

With the suppression of abundant light elements and divine power, and under the cover of his own abundant necromantic magic, the magical fluctuations of activating a first-level necromantic spell were negligible.

Now, he just needs to wait patiently for his opportunity.

His gaze fell on the stone tablet in front of the coffin. Even after nearly a thousand years of erosion, the inscription on it was still clearly visible, consisting of two exceptionally deep-engraved letters.

I'm.

Indeed, the script of the Zhuyuan Continent is very similar to the foreign language he learned in his previous life. As a former top student who attended a prestigious national key primary school, Yun Wei is quite proficient in the basic communication terms of the Zhuyuan Continent.

I am?

Or is it a declarative tone?

It's me.

Yun Wei raised an eyebrow. This was truly an ultimate philosophical problem that plagued humanity in every time and space.

...

Fahris's progress, however, was not going smoothly. Eight hundred years ago, he had already descended upon this continent and personally witnessed the battle that eclipsed the sun and moon, alongside his lord.

It was at that time that he set his sights on the remains of the first knight commander.

After all, that man is—

Just as he was distracted by this thought, the second restriction that had been lifted beneath him suddenly burst forth with a strong holy light, echoing the radiance descending from the sky. Stars fell like rain, directly touching his face and landing on his body, which was tightly wrapped around the surface of the coffin, scorching out a strong stench.

The invisible ripple barrier was also teetering on the brink of collapse under the onslaught of light rain, a scene resembling watching a meteor shower up close.

If you ignore the terrifying destructive power of this enhanced 'Baptism of Light', Yun Wei could actually lie down and enjoy it.

"Damn it, there's a third layer of restrictions hidden behind the second! Ouch... Ouch... It hurts so much! Little mute, what are you standing there for? Come help me!"

Fahris glared fiercely at Yun Wei, who was huddled in the corner with his head down, and ordered anxiously. The latter was curled up in the dead corner formed by the coffin and the wall, which was the only place in the room that was not hit by the holy light pouring out.

Upon hearing this, Yun Wei raised his head expressionlessly and silently extended his left hand, which was not bound by chains.

On the back of his thin, bony hand, the magical imprint of the "Branch of Time" within his body slowly emerged. The three layers of dull, withered branches clearly demonstrated the meaning of "helplessness." The pure magic was powerless, even to cast the simplest first-level spell.

"..." Fahris cursed, his face burnt to a crisp like a grilled squid, and he finally had to unleash his full power.

Time seemed to stand still for a fleeting moment.

The black cloak billowed in mid-air, and the tentacles that had been waving and swinging in the air suddenly exploded into thick clouds of mist. At the center of the mist, a tiny black hole appeared out of nowhere, emitting an extremely strong suction force that distorted the surrounding space.

The torrential rain of light seemed unable to escape the powerful suction, swirling as it was swallowed by the black hole, vanishing in an instant as tiny clusters of light.

"Huff—" Fahris kept panting heavily, but to Yun Wei's ears it sounded like a series of painful moans.

The restrictions on the coffin seemed to sense the black hole in the space and were fully activated. Countless silver-white divine runes appeared and flowed on the smooth marble surface, eventually rising into the air and forming three linked magic circles. As the silver-white light shone, it was as if a silent song was being sung.

Fahris hurriedly thrust the remaining three tentacles into the center of the three magic circles, continuously injecting the abyssal power within his body into them.

White and black light intertwined and collided in space, and the light and shadow within the barrier were dim and unclear, just like the expression on Yun Wei's face as he silently waited in the corner.

He carefully examined the monster's fully formed form displayed in the room:

The black hole, having absorbed all the light rain, transformed into a smooth, purplish-black sphere, from which the monster's four tentacles seemed to extend.

Soon, the competition came to an end.

No matter how ingenious the protective barriers to the coffin were, they ultimately succumbed to time. As hundreds of years passed, the magic power stored in the magic array finally dried up.

Fahris's only remaining tentacle was stuck in the void, drawing upon an endless stream of thick, foul-smelling abyssal power from who knows where.

As the black magic gradually seeped into the silver-white patterns, the metallic magic chains dimmed and disintegrated rapidly, as if they were being corroded.

As the last latch dimmed in its struggle, the surface of the coffin returned to its original state, appearing to be just an ordinary coffin—

With just a gentle lift, the treasures inside are within easy reach.

Fahris's expression turned greedy and ecstatic.

"Sizzle—"

Just as he was feeling smug, a sharp pain suddenly came from behind him. The tentacle rooted in the void had been forcibly severed.

However, before he could even react, the sharp dagger plunged into his soul pearl with a "thud" and began to stir it rapidly and mercilessly.

"Damn necromancer, how dare you! Damn it, I'll kill you! Ah—" With Fahris's rage, the octopus head suspended in the air instantly opened countless compound eyes and mouthparts, unleashing the most intense soul impact on the frail human who was still fiercely stabbing.

But for some reason, the shockwave that could easily tear apart any human soul had no effect. The necromancer in front of him merely frowned, but then increased the speed at which he was pulverizing his soul orb.

Yun Wei was not unaware of the consequences of doing so, but his ten years of experience in the apocalypse taught him to live in the present.

Otherwise, once the monster gets what it wants, he will be silenced immediately.

“You foul-smelling human mage, you insignificant, lowly insect, I’ll remember you! You just wait, I’ll make you… ah… ho ho…”

As Yun Wei touched a hard object inside the sphere and shattered it completely with a forceful poke, the monster in front of him turned into a cloud of black mist that seemed to have never existed.

Only the venomous expressions and vicious curses in those countless compound eyes still echoed in Yun Wei's mind, like a nightmare he couldn't shake off.

The invisible ripple barrier inside the cell shattered with a "pop".

Yun Wei thought to himself, "Oh no!" He quickly turned to look at the guard at the other end of the corridor, hesitating whether he should take advantage of the guard's inattention and hide back in a corner.

But then a sudden change occurred.

Almost at the same moment the monster was killed and the barrier shattered, a tremendous, earth-shaking roar resounded, and the ground shook violently, as if something that had been sleeping deep underground had been completely awakened at that moment.
