Chapter 3: The Return Banquet - Consort Chu Stirs Up Trouble

Empress Dowager Feng said "Rise," and everyone returned to their seats.

Shen Yunsheng originally intended to follow the rules and quietly sit down next to Xiao Jingchuan. However, just as she was about to sit down, a warm and strong hand gently pulled her back. She looked up in surprise and found that it was Empress Dowager Feng smiling at her.

With a slight pull, Empress Dowager Feng led Shen Yunsheng to the main seat and gestured for her to sit to her right. This sudden turn of events drew the attention of everyone present.

Consort Chu had been closely observing the situation. When she saw Empress Dowager Feng allow this young woman, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, to sit in the main seat, her anger flared instantly. She clenched her handkerchief tightly, her fingers turning white from the force, as if she wanted to tear it to shreds.

When she saw that Tantai Tianming's gaze was also on her sister-in-law, her face turned extremely ugly, and her eyes flashed with jealousy and anger.

She simply couldn't understand why this was happening. How could that rustic little girl from the poor countryside have surpassed her and become the powerful and influential Princess, second only to the Emperor? How could she, with her pride and arrogance, swallow this insult? The thought fueled her burning jealousy, driving her to the brink of madness.

Shen Yunsheng had already noticed that Consort Chu was angry. She glanced at her casually and then sat quietly beside her mother.

Consort Chu clutched the silk handkerchief tightly in her hand, biting her lower lip as she struggled to suppress the raging anger burning within her. After a moment, she managed to calm herself slightly, forcing a stiff and strained smile before slowly turning her gaze to Shen Yunsheng opposite her.

“Oh, my dear sister…” Consort Chu’s voice sounded full of sarcasm, as if it contained endless hatred. “These years have really been hard on you. You, a princess of a country, have lived like a peasant woman.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Yunsheng was slightly taken aback at first, but then quickly regained her composure. A gentle smile appeared on her face, as beautiful and charming as a peach blossom in spring: "Thank you for your concern, Your Highness. Actually, it's not bad at all. It's not as bad as everyone imagines."

After saying that, she blinked gently, her eyes sparkling with a lively light, as if trying to prove that what she said was true.

Xiao Jingchuan frowned slightly, his sharp eyebrows furrowing as he thought to himself, "This Consort Chu is so bold as to mock my wife as a country bumpkin right off the bat. Her motives must be far from simple!"

Recalling his experiences in his previous life, Xiao Jingchuan's eyes grew increasingly cold.

Back then, Consort Chu was a wicked and venomous beauty who did all sorts of evil things!

The fact that Cao Zixuan and Xiao Hongbin had fraudulently claimed her military merits was a conspiracy meticulously planned by Consort Chu and her father, who was the prime minister.

Initially, they attempted to lure him in with enormous profits, but Xiao Jingchuan was not one to be easily bought off. When their attempts to bribe him failed, the vicious father and daughter harbored murderous intent, determined to eliminate him. Not only that, but even his beloved grandfather was being manipulated by Prime Minister Chu and Granny Yang.

Now that Heaven has given him a second chance at life, he will never allow Prime Minister Chu and his daughter any opportunity to harm him or his family!

Seeing that Shen Yunsheng remained silent, Consort Chu said sarcastically, "Oh, little sister, I heard you married a peasant. How are you going to live like this?"

Seeing Consort Chu mocking Xiao Jingchuan, Consort Zhang smiled and said, "Consort, the peasant you're talking about is no ordinary man. He is the eldest grandson of the Prince of Zhennan."

Consort Chu's eyes were full of disdain. So what if he was born into a noble family? He was still a peasant raised in the countryside since childhood.

Shen Yunsheng decided to test Consort Chu's arrogance. She glanced at Consort Chu before slowly speaking.

"Your Highness, there's no need to be sad for me. I think it's good to marry a peasant. Without us peasants, Your Highness wouldn't be able to buy food even if you had money!"

Consort Chu: "Don't misunderstand, little sister. I'm just feeling sorry for you."

Shen Yunsheng chuckled and continued, "Although my husband grew up in the countryside, he is ambitious and has excellent martial arts skills, which is much better than some people who only know how to curry favor."

After saying that, he gave Consort Chu a meaningful look.

Consort Chu was so angry that her face turned green, but she couldn't lash out. She could only glare fiercely at Shen Yunsheng, thinking that she would definitely complain about her to Tantai Tianming later.

At this moment, Tantai Tianming, who had been silent all along, finally lost his temper.

"Your Highness, it's not your place to decide Youyou's marriage. You keep calling him a peasant, what exactly do you mean by that?"
