After Meng Shouyi left, he went to a small teahouse.
The teahouse had a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for people to chat and plot. Meng Shouyi went into a private room, sat down, ordered a cup of tea, and waited quietly.
After a while, a man in his forties with a limp walked into the private room. Although he was disabled, he was burly, had a cold face, and exuded a powerful aura. He was clearly a trained fighter with considerable strength.
Upon seeing him, Meng Shouyi immediately stood up and went to greet him, saying, "Brother Ma, it's been a long time!"
The lame man smiled and replied, "Yes, Brother Meng, how have you been lately?"
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Meng Shouyi began to recount the events of the day.
He described in detail his past conflicts with the Xiao family to the lame man.
The lame man listened quietly, offering no immediate opinion, but instead frowning in deep thought. Seeing this, Meng Shouyi grew anxious. He knew his old friend was always cautious, and without his support, it would be difficult to realize his plan.
So he took out a silver note from his pocket, placed it on the table and pushed it in front of the lame man, saying, "Brother Ma, this is one hundred taels of silver. It's a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it."
The lame man glanced at the silver note, then at Meng Shouyi, a faint smile playing on his lips. He said, "Brother Meng, you're too kind. We're old friends, why be so formal? But since you're so sincere, I won't stand on ceremony."
After saying that, he reached out, picked up the silver note, and put it in his pocket.
Seeing that the lame man had accepted the money, Meng Shouyi breathed a sigh of relief and quickly asked, "So, Brother Ma, what do you think we should do about this?"
After a moment of contemplation, the lame man replied, "Brother Meng, this matter is indeed a bit tricky. Xiao Jingchuan is backed by the Blazing Fire Army. If we go head-to-head with him, we won't gain any advantage. It would be better to send your wife to investigate first and see what weaknesses they have."
Hearing the lame man's words, Meng Shouyi nodded repeatedly in agreement, saying, "Brother Ma is right, I really didn't think it through before. However, I'm still worried that the Xiao family won't let this go. What should I do if they continue to harass me?"
The lame man smiled slightly and comforted him, "Brother Meng, don't be pessimistic. As long as Ah Xin repents, there is still a chance to win back his wife and children."
Meng Shouyi disagreed, saying, "These days, as long as you have money, you don't have to worry about not having a wife. My main problem is that I'm unwilling to be bullied by them."
The lame man muttered to himself, "Given your son's character, he's already incredibly lucky to have married a virtuous wife like Xiao Xuemei. And you're still so ungrateful, picking and choosing!" However, on the surface, he smiled obsequiously and asked respectfully, "Brother Meng, how do you plan to deal with the Xiao family?" Meng Shouyi's face was grim, a glint of malice flashing in his eyes. He gritted his teeth and said, "I'll make that despicable couple pay the price!"
As he spoke, he gestured with his hand across his neck as if he were slitting his throat.
“Brother Meng, you know the rules of the Green Bamboo Gang. Hiring someone to kill costs at least three thousand taels of silver. If you kill two people at the same time, it will cost at least five thousand taels.” The lame man said to Meng Shouyi, his eyes revealing a hint of cunning and greed.
Meng Shouyi frowned, muttering to himself, "This lame man is a greedy fellow! But since we've already come this far, we can only grit our teeth and continue."
He took a deep breath, trying to make his tone sound calm and firm: "I know the rules of your Green Bamboo Gang, but this situation is special, and I hope you can make an exception."
The lame man sneered, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes: "Hmph, Brother Meng, don't give me any special circumstances. Our Green Bamboo Gang always operates according to the rules. Without enough silver, no one can make an exception. You think you can get me to kill someone for you with just a hundred taels of silver? Your silver must be worth a fortune!"
Meng Shouyi cursed inwardly, but forced a smile: "Brother Ma, how about this? I'll give you one hundred taels as a deposit, and you can pay the remaining two thousand nine hundred taels after the deal is done. Don't worry, I will definitely not renege on my debt."
The lame man hesitated for a moment, seemingly tempted, but still pretended to be calm and said, "Brother Meng, it's not that I don't want to help, it's just that this matter is too risky. If it's discovered, the reputation of our Green Bamboo Gang will be ruined. Moreover, the two people you want to kill are not ordinary people; they have powerful backers."
Meng Shouyi gritted his teeth, took out a silver note from his pocket and handed it over: "Brother lame, this is a five-hundred-tael silver note, as a token of my sincerity. As long as you agree to help, I guarantee that I will do more business for you in the future."
The lame man took the silver note, examined it carefully, and finally a satisfied smile appeared on his face: "Alright, Brother Meng, seeing how sincere you are, I'll take this business. However, let me make this clear beforehand: if things go wrong, you'll have to bear the consequences, and I won't be responsible."
"Then I'll leave it to Brother Ma." Meng Shouyi thought to himself, as long as he got rid of that adulterous couple, he could finally vent his anger...
"Don't worry, Brother Meng, I'll start scouting the location tomorrow."
After discussing some specific matters with Meng Shouyi, the lame man got up and left the teahouse.
Just as he stepped out the door, suddenly, a tall man dressed in black emerged from behind the screen beside him, holding a sharp longsword, and swiftly placed the blade against the man with broken feet's neck.
