Chapter 97: Almost at the level of kindergarten dropout
As Fu Yitu and Fu Jinzhi's love-hate relationship continued, the days slowly passed.
Wen Yao would take some time each month to visit Madam Fu at the Fu family's old residence. Since Fu Yitu was there recently, she took him along.
Looking at the well-behaved and handsome Fu Yitu, Madam Fu's eyes were filled with envy and regret.
"Yaoyao, is our house inauspicious in terms of feng shui?"
Wen Yao was taken aback. "Mom, why are you saying this?"
The Fu family is a truly wealthy family with good family traditions and harmonious relationships among its members. If this is considered bad feng shui, then what is good feng shui?
Mrs. Fu sighed, "Our family is a happy one, and there has never been any messy or chaotic things."
"In theory, children will not resist getting married and having children."
"But why haven't I been able to hold my grandchildren yet?"
Madam Fu patted Fu Yitu's head: "When Tutu's father was young, he loved to play around. He seemed the most restless, but he was the first to have a child."
“And then there’s Jinzhi,” Madam Fu said with a subtle expression. “He’s always been sharp-tongued and not very affectionate. I thought he would be the last one to get married.”
To put it mildly, Madam Fu never actually thought that Fu Jinzhi would get married.
"But even Jinzhi is married, while Lizhi doesn't even have a girlfriend, and he's already 30!"
Wen Yao corrected in a low voice: "Big brother is 28 years old this year."
Mrs. Fu was not comforted at all. Her voice grew more and more urgent: "28 years old is the same as 30 years old. If I'm already 30, how far away is 40?"
"I really can't bear to see someone over fifty still single, Yao Yao!"
Wen Yao's lips twitched.
Mom, isn't your rounding a bit too much?
Why not just say that once you're over fifty, you're not far from being 100?
Then my country's average life expectancy of around 74 years old can be directly published as an average of 100 years.
As she was speaking, Madam Fu suddenly clapped her hands, "Oh right, I have some information on girls of marriageable age."
"Yaoyao, can you give me some advice?"
Before Wen Yao could reply, Madam Fu hurriedly pressed the elevator button and went upstairs. She returned shortly afterward with a thick stack of A4 papers.
Wen Yao estimated there were fifty or sixty photos.
Wen Yao: "Mom, isn't this too much?"
"Don't be fooled by the small number of people; I actually screened them first." Madam Fu clearly misunderstood Wen Yao's meaning.
She sat down next to Wen Yao and analyzed the candidates for her daughter-in-law with her.
Wen Yao spotted a familiar face at a glance. She took out the document and examined it; it really was Zhao Xinting.
"Mom, why is Zhao Xinting here too?" Wen Yao raised an eyebrow.
"Yaoyao, do you know her?" Madam Fu asked without a care in the world. "I've inquired about this Miss Zhao. I heard she's straightforward and quite pretty, but her family background is a bit lacking."
"But our family doesn't care about family background, so it doesn't matter."
“Hmm…” Wen Yao hesitated for a few seconds, then said tactfully, “This Miss Zhao isn’t very bright.”
"Oh dear, there aren't that many smart people in the world." Mrs. Fu said dismissively, "When I was young, my parents always said I wasn't very bright, but when it comes to marriage, it depends on how well the two people get along."
Mrs. Fu thought for a moment: "How not smart? You graduated from university, right?"
Wen Yao stretched out her thumb and forefinger, gesturing a very short distance, "about the level of dropping out of kindergarten."
Zhao Xinting is a brainless firecracker. She can launch an attack on anyone who says something, without thinking at all.
"That's alright." Madam Fu realized her mistake halfway through her sentence.
Kindergarten dropout?
That's not just being extremely illiterate, it's practically the same as never having gone to school.
"No, no, then forget it." Madam Fu's well-maintained face scrunched up.
Although I don't aspire to be a PhD, I can't just know to run home when it rains!
After spending the afternoon with Madam Fu reviewing documents and having dinner together in the evening, Wen Yao finally managed to leave.
It's understandable that Madam Fu was targeting Fu Lizhi, since Fu Jinzhi was already married and Fu Yan's career was just starting to take off, making it unsuitable for her to develop a romantic relationship.
While it was understandable, Wen Yao still had no interest in being a matchmaker; she found playing games with Fu Yitu much more interesting.
That day, Wen Yao was playing games with Fu Yitu when Wang Ma suddenly knocked on the door to inform her that a guest had arrived.
"Mr. Mao is looking for me?" Wen Yao asked, puzzled. What could he possibly want with her?
She never interfered in official matters, and she was not familiar with the Mao family in private matters.
For both public and private reasons, they shouldn't have come to see her, but since they've come, Wen Yao still has to go down and check on them.
Upon suddenly seeing Mr. Mao's face, Wen Yao was startled.
It had only been two weeks since I last saw him, and I wondered what Mr. Mao had gone through in those short two weeks.
His eyes are now sunken, with heavy dark circles, and his face is withered and sallow.
Even her once jet-black hair now has some gray hairs, clearly indicating that she hasn't had time to take care of it for a while.
His lips were chapped, and he greeted her in a hoarse voice, "Hello, Mrs. Fu."
"I've come today to ask you for a favor."
Wen Yao was slightly taken aback: "Mr. Mao, please speak. I will do what I can."
Mr. Mao took a deep breath. "Minmin fell ill after returning home from the horse farm that day."
"She remained unconscious, and the family consulted many doctors, but none of them could cure her."
"When we were desperate, we visited a master who said that we needed a peer with a good destiny to help Minmin call back her soul."
"After thinking it over, I think only the children from the Fu family are the most suitable."
After saying this, Mr. Mao looked pleading and bowed deeply to Wen Yao: "Please, save my daughter."
This is so contrary to our country's core values, Wen Yao frowned, she was hesitating.
Fu Yitu's voice suddenly came from the stairs: "I'll go."
He waited for a long time but Wen Yao didn't come back. He wanted to come down and check the situation, but then he heard what Mr. Mao said.
Fu Yitu was a kind-hearted child. Although he neither understood nor believed in metaphysics, he still agreed to go to the Mao family without hesitation.
He thought that at least his visit would make Mao Xinmin's family feel better.
"Okay." Wen Yao smiled helplessly. She would definitely accompany Fu Yitu if he was going.
After saying hello to Wang Ma, Wen Yao and Fu Yitu followed Mr. Mao to his house.
For the sake of their daughter's health, Mr. Mao's family lives in a relatively remote villa area.
The area is surrounded by top-notch hospitals and nursing homes, and many wealthy people who retire there live there.
The corners and edges of the walls in Mr. Mao's home were covered with soft padding, and every piece of furniture was also properly protected.
What makes it even more unique is that there are ramps throughout the villa.
Seemingly noticing Wen Yao's confusion, Mr. Mao forced a smile: "When Minmin was little, she would have weakness in her lower limbs and could only use a wheelchair. These ramps are to make it easier for her to move around."
Wen Yao nodded. It seemed that Mr. Mao's family truly loved their daughter dearly.
Mr. Mao: "I'm sorry, Mrs. Fu, the master said that you need to enter the house by yourself. Please wait downstairs for a while."
After exchanging a few words with Wen Yao, Mr. Mao anxiously led Fu Yitu upstairs.
Wen Yao was sitting downstairs, feeling a bit bored, when a maid wearing a mask brought her a cup of tea.
The maid had her head down, and her bangs covered her eyes, making it difficult to see her face clearly.
Wen Yao couldn't help but take a second look.
