Chapter 125 Attacked Along the Way

On the second day of her journey, Tian Yu encountered men in black who had been pursuing her. Although she had prepared herself mentally, she was still afraid when she actually met them. However, she had no choice but to face them. After a fierce battle, she suffered heavy losses, with more than a dozen soldiers dying. Looking at the dead soldiers in front of her, Tian Yu suppressed her grief and fear, buried them on the spot, reorganized the team, and continued on her way. This was not the first time she had seen dead people. She had no time to hesitate. The road ahead was still long, and Tang Yuan would catch up soon.

On the third day, they arrived at an inn and rested for the night. They were attacked by three men in black. Tian Yu recognized them as the three who had escaped the day before. Fortunately, they were prepared and were all captured by Ji Feng. Just as they were about to ask something, they all committed suicide by poison.

The journey then became much smoother, and they encountered no assassins. About halfway through the journey, they arrived at a county called Jinzhou. Here, Tian Yu and his companions encountered danger again. As soon as they entered the city, the local magistrate, Zhou Xian, came to greet them, saying that he had heard that the wife of the Marquis of Zhenbei was passing through and had come specifically to welcome her. Tian Yu felt something was strange, but did not refuse. Under the magistrate's arrangement, Tian Yu and his party stayed in a private garden and were treated to good food and drink. Tian Yu did not understand why, but while politely responding, he carefully observed their every move and sent Jifeng to investigate who the magistrate was working for.

Sure enough, they acted in the middle of the night. First, they drugged them with sleeping potion, then locked the doors and windows and set the entire courtyard on fire. Unbeknownst to them, Jifeng had already ascertained his identity; it turned out this magistrate had received orders to secretly kill Tian Yu. Tian Yu and Jifeng appeared in the magistrate's room, knocked him unconscious, and threw him and the steward who came to report into the burning courtyard. Then they sped away. Once in the carriage, Jifeng said, "Madam, is this alright? He is the magistrate."

"He wanted to kill me. If I don't kill him, what will happen to Tangyuan? This should keep them busy with their own things for a while, so they won't have time to care about us. Besides, who would know it was us who did it!"

"Madam is brilliant! So, which way should we go now?"

"Take the main road and head straight for the capital."

"Alright, the Prince wrote to ask when the Madam will arrive."

"It'll be here soon, in about two weeks."

Meanwhile, under Xuan Yu's protection, Tang Yuan and Li Xingyun encountered no trouble along the way, and everything they went was peaceful, thanks to Tian Yu's arrangements.

That day, Tangyuan lay on the bed in the inn and looked at Xuanyu on the other side, asking, "Brother Xuanyu, does the fact that we are safer mean that Mother and the others are in more danger?"

"yes!"

"Shouldn't we hurry up and catch up with Mother and the others?"

"No, your mother did this for you."

"But I miss my mother and my father so much."

"Go to sleep! You won't want to think about it when you're asleep!"

"How long have you been with my father?"

"Three years."

"Then tell me about my father, okay?"

"There's nothing to talk about, it's a war every day, go to sleep!"

"Boring, doesn't Brother Xuanyu miss home?"

"In no mood!"

Don't you miss your mother?

"Brother Xuanyu! Brother Xuanyu!"

There was no response, the candle went out, and Tangyuan pouted in the darkness and fell asleep feeling aggrieved.

Fearing that Tangyuan and the others would catch up, Tian Yu didn't dare delay the latter part of the journey, traveling at a rapid pace, sometimes even at night. Whenever they passed through a county town, they quickly replenished their supplies before continuing their journey. Tian Yu didn't have time to fully experience the local customs and traditions, only catching fleeting glimpses, but it was clear that the people were still very simple and honest. It was an era that valued martial arts, with many practicing it for fitness, but scholars and gentlemen were rare. Therefore, the occasional gentleman was still highly respected.

At the last post station before the capital, Tian Yu decided to rest well before continuing her journey. After the group arrived at the inn and booked rooms, Tian Yu stayed in her room without going out until the waiter knocked on the door to bring dinner. Hearing the shouts outside, Tian Yu asked curiously, "Waiter, what's going on outside? Why is it so noisy?"

"Sir, you may not know? There's a martial arts tournament today, and everyone's gone to join in the fun."

"A martial arts tournament?"

"Yes, we hold a martial arts tournament here every year. This year's tournament is even more exciting. The winner can marry Jiang Yuanyuan, a talented woman from this city, so there are a lot of people participating."

"A martial arts contest to find a husband?"

"You could say that! Jiang Yuanyuan has always been proud and arrogant, and she hasn't found a suitable husband. Her family is anxious and is trying to marry her off through this martial arts competition."

"I see! That's quite interesting."

"Isn't that right? I heard that the winner can marry a talented woman, and there are several times more people participating than in previous years!"

"It's so lively!"

"If you're interested, you can take a look. These are the dishes you ordered. I'll take them down now."

After the waiter left, Tian Yu was about to eat when Ji Feng knocked on the door and came in. Tian Yu smiled and said, "Have you eaten? Do you want to eat together?"

“No need, Madam, the Prince has an urgent letter,” Jifeng said hesitantly.

Tian Yu picked up a piece of food and asked suspiciously, "An urgent letter? Is it something important? Tell me quickly!"

"Ask!?...Ask Madam when she will update the novel." Jifeng said in a low voice, not daring to look at Tian Yu.

Tian Yu almost choked, then laughed and said, "Why is he in such a hurry? Tell him I'll update when I get to the capital. If I die halfway there, no one will know what happens next."

"This!?...This isn't good!"

"What's wrong with that? He's your prince, not mine."

"Alright! Your Highness, I will report back immediately." Gale had no choice but to say it.

"Don't forget anything, reply as I said, or your prince will keep urging you."

"I understand!"
