Chapter 13 Repairing a House

"It's okay, I don't care. It's just gossip, don't take it seriously." Tian Yu quickly smoothed things over when she saw that Chen Chong was a little unhappy.

"Don't be angry, niece-in-law. Uncle Ping just heard some nonsense. I didn't mean it that way," Uncle Ping quickly explained.

"I'm not angry, Uncle Ping, don't worry about it. Eat more."

“That unfilial son Zhao Sibao relies on his father’s contributions to the village and only knows how to cause trouble everywhere. Don’t bother with him,” Zhao Jinyan said.

"Yes, not a single word that bastard says is true, so don't take it to heart, niece-in-law."

"I didn't take it to heart. I don't want to talk to him at all. Let's eat, everyone. Don't mention him; he's disgusting." Seeing that Chen Chong was unhappy, Tian Yu didn't know what to say, so she could only quickly change the subject.

Uncle Ping, always bringing up the most sensitive topics, brought up Zhao Moyan again, saying that if he returned home in glory, Tian Yu's hard times would finally be over. Seeing Chen Chong's ashen face, Tian Yu really didn't want to discuss these things, so she quickly changed the subject. Uncle Ping ate happily, but Chen Chong didn't eat much. They assured Tian Yu that, based on her cooking, they would definitely fix the roof properly, ensuring it would last for years without leaks. Tian Yu politely said thank you for your trouble and then went about her own business.

The repairs were quickly completed in the afternoon, including a renovation of the kitchen. Since it wasn't dinner time yet, the three decided not to stay for dinner, letting Tian Yu tidy up the house at home. Tian Yu felt bad about this, so she packed three portions of the steamed buns she'd made that morning for them to take home as dinner. She gave Chen Chong a smaller portion, but gave the other two, who had family members with them, more. Uncle Ping hesitated for a while, then said he'd like to try some of Tian Yu's braised pork offal. Understanding this, Tian Yu packed a bowl for each of them. Luckily, she had bought extra bowls, otherwise they wouldn't have had enough. Zhao Jinxin declined, but Tian Yu said she was only helping out and it would be bad enough not to accept money; they should at least have some food, so she accepted it. Chen Chong was even more unceremonious, not lingering with others present, and prepared to go home with the food.
