Before dawn, a horn sounded outside, followed by the sound of drums. Tian Yu, puzzled, put on her cloak and opened the door. She saw that the eunuch guarding the door had also been awakened by the sound of the bell and asked, "What happened?"
The young eunuch guarding the gate said nervously, "Your Highness, a war is about to break out."
Tian Yu asked in surprise, "A war? In the north?"
"This servant doesn't know either."
Seeing that she couldn't get any information, Tian Yu hurriedly ran outside and grabbed a passing eunuch, anxiously asking, "Where is the Crown Prince now?"
"The Crown Prince is in the palace."
Where has the fighting taken place?
"The northern frontier is in dire straits! The Mongol Empire is about to invade! The Emperor is mustering troops in preparation for the campaign." With that, the eunuch hurriedly ran off.
Tian Yu ran towards the Crown Prince's palace. The eunuchs, who had stopped her at the door, were quite surprised to see her. Tian Yu, disregarding everything else, pushed open the palace gate and rushed inside. She saw the Crown Prince, just risen, sitting disheveled on the edge of the bed. His concubine on the bed was in a much worse state; her fair back was exposed, with bruises on it, and her body was curled up in a ball. Tian Yu blushed and quickly turned away. Seeing her like this, the Crown Prince burst into laughter and said, "Crown Princess, are you in such a hurry? Is something wrong?"
"I came to ask you what happened outside?" Tian Yu asked, her back to the prince, as the palace maid who had come in began to help him change his clothes.
"You heard it too, there must be a change in the war in the north, and they're going to send a large army there."
"Who should we send?" Tian Yu asked anxiously as she turned around, then wondered if she was being too obvious.
“Father made the decision a few days ago. Judging from the situation, it can only be the Marquis of Zhenbei. It seems his marriage will be delayed.” The Crown Prince looked at Tian Yu with a wicked smile, as if to say, “Are you satisfied now?”
Tian Yu felt a surge of joy, but she quickly became worried again. What if Zhao Moyan didn't come back? Her emotions were a jumble of complex feelings. Tian Yu forced a calm smile and said, "I understand. Thank you, Your Highness. Farewell."
"Wait!" The Crown Prince, dressed, walked up to Tian Yu and said, "Remember that you are the future Crown Princess, and you belong to me. I can forgive you this time, but if you still have feelings for someone else after we get married, don't blame me for being ruthless. And next time you come in, you won't be able to leave so easily."
Tian Yu disliked his frivolity and bowed slightly, saying, "Your Highness is right. I was just curious, and there won't be a next time." After saying that, she walked past the Crown Prince and left quickly. After Tian Yu left, the Crown Prince instructed his servants to clean the room before hurrying to the front hall.
Tian Yu couldn't go to the front hall, but she still wanted to see him. She was terrified that she would never see Zhao Moyan again. He was away on a war, and she didn't know when he would return. Would she still be alive then? She racked her brains trying to think of a place in the palace where she could see them. Tian Yu put on her cloak and ran to the highest wall of the palace. She saw that the front of the main hall was brightly lit by firelight. The army had already assembled. The emperor and his ministers stood on the high platform, and below them were the orderly troops. Leading them was Zhao Moyan. Although he was wearing armor and her face was not visible, Tian Yu recognized the black horse. It was him. This was the first time she had seen him in armor, but she couldn't see him off. Tian Yu felt very sad. The wind was a little cold in the early morning, making Tian Yu's nose and eyes red. But she didn't want to leave, afraid that if she missed him, she would never see him again. She hated herself for becoming so sentimental, and at the same time, she looked down at Zhao Moyan and felt heartbroken. She really wanted to turn into a gust of wind and follow him forever.
Tian Yu stood on the city wall, watching everything unfold below. She watched Zhao Moyan receive the military flag, command the army, and the army set off. Suddenly, Zhao Moyan turned and looked in her direction. Tian Yu never expected him to look in her direction. Their eyes met for a second, and Tian Yu panicked, quickly crouching down and covering her mouth to cry. After a long while, she wiped away her tears and peeked down, only to find that the army had already departed. Tian Yu followed the receding figure along the wall, wanting to tell him to return safely, that she would always wait for him. But now she didn't even have that right. Touching the child in her belly, Tian Yu let her tears fall and drift away with the wind. In the end, she only saw Zhao Moyan's figure slowly disappear in the dawn. Tian Yu stood on the city wall until the sun rose, but the army was no longer visible. She thought sadly that he was gone! He was gone just like that! Dazed, she returned to her room, feeling exhausted and cold all over. She wrapped herself in the blanket and cried loudly. When Li Xingyun arrived, Tian Yu was either crying herself unconscious or asleep.
When Tian Yu opened her eyes, she saw Li Xingyun and the princess. She saw Li Xingyun's angry expression, the princess's worried expression, and the crown prince sitting in the hall.
"Has the Crown Princess woken up?" the Crown Prince asked.
"What's wrong with me?" Tian Yu was a little confused. She remembered that she cried a lot after she came back and then fell asleep? But she seemed to be back in the present, feeling like she was dreaming.
"Tian Yu, you scared us to death! The palace maids said they couldn't wake you up, but thankfully you just fainted," the princess said, holding Tian Yu's hand.
The Crown Prince stepped forward and asked, "Imperial Physician Li, how is the Crown Princess's health?"
Li Xingyun said, "Your Highness, don't worry. He just fell asleep from exhaustion. He'll be fine after some rest!"
"That's good! I have other matters to attend to. Your Highness, please rest well. I will come to see you again when I have time!"
"Thank you for your concern, Your Highness."
Only after the Crown Prince led the palace servants away did Tian Yu say to the princess and Li Xingyun, "I'm so sorry for startling you."
"Do you remember what you promised me?" Li Xingyun said angrily.
"Remember, this was an accident, and I promise it won't happen again."
Li Xingyun was so angry he was speechless. He took out a bottle of medicine from his pocket and handed it to Tian Yu, saying, "Take this, one pill a day. Keep it safe."
Tian Yu took the medicine and said with a smile, "I'm really fine. By the way, what will happen to Miss Cui if the Marquis goes to war? Today is their wedding day."
"You don't need to worry about that. The Cui family has already submitted a petition to annul the engagement," the princess said.
Is this okay?
"Of course not, but I heard that the Marquis wrote a letter of annulment before he went to war. Otherwise, how could the Cui family dare to break off the engagement? Although Father Emperor disagrees, he can't blame the Marquis because of the war. We can only put it aside for now and see how things go."
"You should worry more about yourself," Li Xingyun said.
"Tian Yu, are you getting bored staying in the palace? How about I take you out for a walk today?"
"May I?"
"Of course, you wait while I go and tell my father." The princess left happily.
"It's good to go out for a walk, but you should be careful not to overexert yourself."
"Okay, do you want to come with us?"
"The Imperial Medical Academy has other matters to attend to. Please take care of yourselves."
