Zhao Moyan was sitting in a chair reading a book when he saw Tian Yu walk in. He put down his book and asked, "Have you thought it through?"
"I've made up my mind," Tian Yu said firmly, then handed the divorce papers to Zhao Moyan.
Zhao Moyan took the divorce papers and glanced at them, not understanding Tian Yu's meaning. He looked at Tian Yu, waiting for her explanation. Tian Yu took a deep breath and said, "The second thing is that I want you to tell everyone at the banquet tomorrow that we have divorced. We've parted ways amicably, each going our own way, and each free to marry as we please. These are the words you said six years ago, and now I want you to say them again in front of the elders of Old Zhao Village."
Zhao Moyan stared at Tian Yu for a long time, trying to confirm something, but he couldn't. He frowned and asked, "Are you sure you want me to announce this in front of everyone?"
"Sure."
"Why, just to be with Joan Chen?"
"Yes, but it's also for my own sake."
“I told you, you and Tangyuan can come with me.”
"But I don't want to leave. I want to stay here, farm, and watch the four seasons change in these mountains."
"What about the glutinous rice balls?"
"Don't worry, I'll get Tangyuan out of the way so he won't hear anything. I've already said that if Tangyuan wants, you can take him away anytime, and I won't stop you."
"He'll definitely find out. What will he think then?"
"I'll tell him in a different way before then, and he'll understand."
"Why do I have to say it? You can say it yourself, or you don't need to explain at all."
“It’s better for you to say it than for me to say it. After all, it’s normal for you, the Marquis, to divorce me. If I were to announce it, the villagers would definitely think I’m problematic and don’t know my place. But if you say it, everyone will think it’s normal. Even if Chen Chong and I get together, there will be fewer rumors, right?”
Zhao Moyan stared at Tian Yu for a long time, so long that Tian Yu thought he was going to refuse and wondered if she shouldn't have done it. She was getting uncomfortable under Zhao Moyan's gaze. Only then did Zhao Moyan stand up and walk to the door, stopping with his back to Tian Yu and saying, "Think about it again tonight. If you still insist on doing it tomorrow morning, I'll agree."
After saying that, she turned and went back to her room without looking back. Tian Yu stood there for a long time, thinking it over carefully and deciding that this was the best solution she could think of. This way, she and Chen Chong could be together legitimately. No matter what, it was settled. She nodded firmly to herself to affirm her decision before turning off the light and going back to her room to rest.
Zhao Moyan returned to his room to check on the sleeping Tangyuan, then went to his desk and surveyed the room by moonlight. He had to admit that Tian Yu had excellent taste; the items, while not particularly expensive, were all carefully selected. Their styles were simple yet elegant, exuding a refined air. Take the desk, for example: at first glance, it appeared simple and elegant, but upon closer inspection, the corners and legs were finely crafted with intricate patterns, revealing subtle elegance. The calligraphy brush and inkstone on the desk seemed simple, but Zhao Moyan could tell they were of high quality. Playing with the brush, Zhao Moyan recalled the little girl he had hastily married years ago, who never dared to speak to him or even look at him, always keeping her head down and remaining silent when asked questions. Even when he proposed divorce, she silently accepted without resistance. She was completely different from the girl he knew now. What could change a person so drastically? He had even suspected she wasn't Xiao Tian, but she had kept all the household items and the keepsakes from her grandmother in perfect condition, and even Tangyuan's birthdate was plausible. If they had met the person they are now back then, would things be different now? She's met someone she likes now, isn't that wonderful? Why can't he let go? He recalled the jade pendant he saw on her chest when she fainted and he carried her back to her room. It looked like a pair, given to her by Chen Chong, but the pendant looked so familiar; he felt like he'd seen it somewhere before. Zhao Moyan sat at his desk, lost in thought, not closing his eyes until dawn.
Tian Yu and Xiao Ju prepared breakfast early and knocked on the door to call Zhao Moyan and Tangyuan to get up and eat. After knocking for a while, Tangyuan finally opened the door. Tian Yu rubbed Tangyuan's cheek and said, "You have to eat early today. A lot of people will be coming to the house later. You and your sister play nearby and don't go too far, okay?"
"Okay, I understand."
"Go wash up and eat, Xiaoju is waiting for you. Hasn't your father gotten up yet?" Tian Yu said, peeking curiously into the room, only to find no one on the bed.
"Father got up a long time ago and is reading."
"Okay, you go eat first, love you." Tian Yu and Tangyuan exchanged heart gestures before entering the room. Sure enough, Zhao Moyan was sitting at his desk with a book in his hand. Tian Yu walked over and noticed he looked a little haggard, but his clothes were the same. She wondered if he hadn't slept all night. Then she remembered he hadn't brought any clothes with him; he'd been wearing the same outfit for the past two days. He must have slept; there was no reason for him not to sleep all night. With that thought, Tian Yu said, "I've thought about it. Let's do it the way we discussed last night."
"Alright, I'll clarify things then," Zhao Moyan said calmly, his eyes never leaving the book in his hands since Tian Yu came in.
Tian Yu felt as if he had returned to the cold aura he had when they first met, keeping people at arm's length. What he had done yesterday felt like a dream. Tian Yu smiled awkwardly and said, "Would you like to go have breakfast? I've already prepared it."
"No need, I want to be alone for a while. Close the door behind you when you leave." Zhao Moyan said to his book without looking at Tian Yu.
"Okay, okay, then I'll bring the food in for you."
"No, I won't eat it!"
"Alright, then you rest. I won't disturb you any longer." Tian Yu looked at his icy face, carefully walked out of the room, and gently closed the door behind her. Tian Yu frowned, wondering what was wrong with him. He was fine yesterday, but why did he revert to his old ways today? They say a woman's heart is like a needle at the bottom of the sea, but a man's heart is just as deep. Tian Yu shook her head and went to the kitchen to eat with Tangyuan and Xiaoju.
